Giant Bomb @ E3 2017: <>

I want Drew on a segment with Lorne. It'd be super relaxing and filled with anecdotes about flying planes or watching Schindler's List at Liam Neeson's house.

Next year Alex needs to figure out how to get Felix from Chapo Trap House on to talk about Metal Gear with Dan so all of my interests can continue to collide.

Just got home.

holy shit

*edit*

Wow that Phil Spencer interview was pretty good. I was expecting some half-assed marketing answers but the interview itself was pretty insightful.

I missed the first segment of the night with Phil Spencer, so I went back and watched that and I really am impressed with him. I am someone who very much enjoyed Xbox for a while. I loved the original Xbox, and for a while I was only playing on my 360. Then after having four 360's red ring, I got fed up and bought a PS3 slim when it was announced. After that and what I thought was an absolutely horrible launch of the Xbone, with the messaging, price, and console itself, I never thought I'd be interested in owning an Xbox again. Slowly but surely Phil is changing that.

I still have my problems with Xbox, dont get me wrong. For me personally, I think they are really struggling with their first party stuff outside of the Forza series. However, it's not hard to notice things have improved under Phil. It may be slow but it's happening, and yeah, maybe a lot of that is because of where they are in sales behind Playstation, but I still respect the changes they are making, it's good for everyone.

So because of that, I am actually strongly considering buying an X this year when it launches. I don't think the X is priced correctly, but I already have a 4KTV, so it fits me better. Otherwise I would buy an S which I think is the better option at the moment for most consumers. I am buying into the idea that Xbox is headed in the right direction. Maybe I'm a sucker for getting tricked by PR talk, but I think for the most part Phil is genuine and is slowly getting things to where they need to be with Xbox. There is still a lot of time in between now and launch, so we will see how things go, but I am definitely liking what I'm seeing lately from them.

Anyone else bored of this meme with gaming press, ohhhhh I'm so tired e3 yall, ohh e3 so hard, every fucking year you get to hear them moan about it.

While Xavier Woods and Samoa Joe were talking about which DBZ saga is the best, Dan was in the back thinking that he had to watch DBZ now.

Um that isn't a meme bro that's just people being tired

I assume you've never whinged a bit about being tired at your job?

Get a bunch of people together from any industry and they'll probably all just moan about their jobs. I do agree that it gets a bit tiring to hear about though.

Watching and reading so I'm still 30 pages back but I just wanted to say watching Jeff and Phil, the 2 pros, talk is always amazing. Jeff takes a nice cool approach to even more glaring issues and Phil does his best to rein in PR speak and comes off as a genuine dude every single time. It's a shame it always takes getting dethroned in market share for these companies to take a more consumer friendly stance.

Yeah Phil is really cool. One of the most down to earth high level industry guys I can think of.

Yeah. It makes me kind of angry when I see people criticizing them for exclusives. "Well it's on PC too, so it's not really an exclusive!!111"

Why the hell would you blast them for doing something that benefits the consumer?

This year we're really starting to see the effect of Phil taking over. Xbox One stumbled out of the gate, and even though I was there day one, I wasn't ignorant to how badly they handled the launch, and continued to handle things afterward. It was a sort of one step forward ten steps back approach to this generation, and consumers responded in kind. Sony nailed their launch, they kept things moving afterwards, and now they're over 60 million sold. Not that you need to be #1 to have worth in the video game space, but Xbox definitely was their own worst enemy, from poor management to even poorer management.

I like the One X a lot, and yeah it's $499, but I've really come around on finding that being an acceptable price for what it is and what it can do. Having the One S as the far more affordable option for people who don't care about top end specs or don't have a 4k TV, etc, I think that creates a good dichotomy. Will they sell a ton of One X's? Doubtful. But that's not their goal.

I think next year is when we'll see the first party stuff come into fruition (I hope!). Getting solid hardware out there, in both the S and the X, is the groundwork for what's to come.

I'm cool with a few first party/exclusive titles and playing third party games on the X for now. Lord knows all I'll be playing for a while is Destiny anyway...

Man, that Phil interview was good. He's one of my favorite people in the industry. Seeing this interview with him, then watching an interview with Reggie, it's crazy the difference between the two.

Phil might have sold me on a One X simply based off his candid responses. I simply like the dude, and I like what he's trying to do over at Xbox.
