Giant Bomb @ E3 2017: <>

Just tossing it out there.

Hardware is 499.

But MS pushed the emergency button and makes online play no longer require gold?

As far as good buy moves. Free online one thing MS could do. They could phase out gold and the revenue they get from it with Gamepass.

The Pro was 399 last holiday. I assume its cheaper to make now.

Scorpio could be 399 this year with its better specs. Thats how hardware works.
Won't happen.. they would sooner make a phone like deal where you get a system on the cheap if you sign up for like 5 years of of xbl.

How do they think $500 reasonable? Hell, how do they think new hardware is reasonable when they have no exclusive games to justifying buying any model of Xbox?

That's the thing. Will MS show they have learned anything from the original Xbox One reveal and reveal some exciting software or will they just talk about hardware specs for an hour?

The flaw with Scorpio is that the audience who iy is aimed at are the same people who would just be a PC. I mean for 500 why wouldn't someone just save or spend a extra more to get something better.

He lost all credibility in my books after the fake Joakim Mogren/Moby Dick interview stuff. I'd 100% believe him to hype up the price of Scorpio at $499 for it to be a suprise at $399

I mean... Geoff has the biggest hard-on for Kojima so anything related to him coming from Geoff is always to take with a huge grain of salt

Is it really though? Aren't there console gamers who want that extra power to brag about?

Seems like every PC thread there's always someone who says blah blah I just want a console.

There are but how many of them are going to pay 500 dollars for one? I'm going to guess not many.

There's a sizable audience of people who do not want to build their own PC. I'm not sure why this so frequently goes over people's heads. You could probably make the same argument against the PS4 Pro, yet it represents 20% of Sony's sales.

Is it that hard to find or estimate the cost of most of these components? There's analysts that are paid to do this stuff.

That just doesn't sound precise enough. There will be breakdowns after the machine is out. There are people who specialise on this kind of stuff.

As to why this "feels" more expensive than 400, MS execs have called this machine premium all this time. This is pretty clear marketing lingo for "it's more expensive that you think".

That's different. The Kojima stuff was a goof for a developer that's always been crazy like that.

But helping a company out to have a "moment" like this at a press conference? That would be it for the journalistic integrity he has left as far as I'm concerned. Marketing stuff is fine, but not like this.

It would be kind of fun though, I just wouldn't expect Keighley to be doing it.

I'm a PC gamer so I don't get it either .. but I know there a lot of people who do junk that makes no sense to me. The whole 500 dollars price tag seems expected to me based on what they seemed to be saying about it.

Surely they are not just jumping face first into a empty pool right.. right?

If they were designing this for the relatively small market of enthusiasts that buy the $150 Elite controllers, I don't think it would be the centerpiece of their strategy going forward. They're clearly positioning it as something they know is a more mass-market price. It's premium in the sense that it will probably be 30-40% more than the baseline model.......but not something that's nearly than twice the cost.

I don't think I'd have ever considered Keighley to be a serious journalist. He's presenter/host and an industry insider who sometimes tweets out some info. He's not going out of his way to report on poor working conditions, crude business deals and figuring out if accidental Goatse references are accidental or not.

Hope Geoff appears on the live shows. I

He's already running his own series of live shows for YouTube everyday. I suspect he probably will not have the time or energy to appear on anyone else's show.

It would be really weird to see him when he's not in super polished, presenter-mode. I'm not sure if I've ever seen him act casual.

The only difference would be a different company would pay him.
So you are saying Keighley gets a pass because Kojima can be a goof?
Keighley is a really talented and a great talker but everything he says has to be taken with a huge grain of salt because of that interview. How he got so much shit for that Doritos pope thing and not the Joakim Mogren interview I'll never understand.

Hes done it before on GB's show when he was doing the Spike TV stuff

He's made a name of himself thanks to his in-depth reports on the development of certain games. He interviews people like Reggie and asks tough questions.

He's not just press, that's for sure. But he still does press things here and there.

And your definition of a journalist is not applicable to videogames journalism/entertainment reporting anyway. I just use the word journalist since that's what we always do.

I'm confused was that interview not an obvious joke?

Because it was a joke. Acting as if you're breaking a bad news only to generate goodwill towards a company later is not.

People actually got upset at Geoff playing along with Kojima, evidently one of his biggest friends in the gaming industry?
Moby Dick studios was a fun goof, this would just be lame marketing.

I'm not saying I thought it was real but NeoGAF had so many posters thinking everything about Moby Dick studios was real.
Also, what's the joke?
A man with bandages makes a video game?
JUST KIDDING IT'S KOJIMA

c'mon

Haven't been watching much GB stuff lately due to travelling so was cool to see Ben seems to have settled in well when watching the EA thing just now.

Re: the Scorpio price it doesn't surprise me at all. I've always been slightly confused why some people have been treating it like it's gonna be anything more than a slightly more powerful and slightly more expensive version of the PS4 pro, which based on the specs and the fact that they were on the record pretty early that all games must support the og xb1 has been obviously from the get go. Expect it will be a minor boost to platform but nothing tide changing unless they have some ace up their sleeve

Yes?

Also a video game that seems very familiar to another video game from a goofy creator to the point you wonder if some shenanigans are afoot? Absolutely
