Dan basically thinks Zelda is the best game he's played this millennium, so he's in the bag for it. Zelda's basically the only game I've heard Brad talk about this year apart from PUBG, and that's not got the same fever. It's one of the few games Abby seems to have played this year. Several members of staff bought consoles for the game. Jeff, the biggest critic of the game on staff, called it amazing.

The competition so far in terms of broad consensus is between Zelda and PUBG, and no one has the burning passion for PUBG that multiple staff members have for Zelda. Brad might get his head turned by Destiny, but I'm struggling to see what else could overturn it.
They've universally turned the entire staff into people obsessed with PUBG. To say there isn't a burning passion for it seems to ignore the way they have let it take over the site.

And Jeff calling it amazing won't matter when GOTY time comes and he is the first one to pull the knives out for any nitpicks that may have irritated him. All the crew will fight for Zelda to be high on that list but I wouldn't assume they're all onboard to call it number 1.

The Murder Island streams are really great, and it really has got them good and into it, but I just don't hear the hyperbole that Zelda got from half the staff for months on end. PUBG will do really well- I can see it occupying 3rd place, like Overwatch and Rocket League before it- but there was a Zelda fever for a good month or so unmatched by anything else so far this year.

It's a Nintendo game that Brad likes, for heaven's sake.

Real talk: there are three people who really matter in GOTY, and that's Jeff, Brad and Dan. Jeff can pull all the knives he wants, he's not going to get past the other two if they feel as strongly then as they did back at launch.

You're really exaggerating how much Jeff likes it. He gave up on it pretty quickly and much preferred Horizon.

Dan is a GotY pushover. Jeff's opinion always carries much more weight.
