wow sounds like a humdinger of an episode.
It was weirdly kind of hard to watch by the end.

I think Dan was just cocky and went into it overestimating his ability and memory for the combat systems. He seemed pretty happy with himself for remembering how the metagame works, and I think that encouraged him that he could go into the combat missions and do his 'protect dan above everyone else' bit and still be ok.
Then when things started going wrong he didn't know how to right the ship.
This plus not accounting for not being able to save scum is it, I think.
I wonder how he'd play if Abby or Alex manage to get his character killed?
They should play Final Fantasy Tactics for the next game in this series.
They will completely wipe in the Battle at Dorter Trade City.
So a bug definitely killed Vinny. The one silver lining is that it wasn't a chrysallid.
I think the problem with the XCORPS' commander so far is that they don't all understand the core mechanics of the game. Their understanding of stuff like flanking and its bonuses, cover and its bonuses, height and its bonuses, action points, basic soldier skills, etc. are all at varying levels which is crippling their ability to survive in battles. (The strategic map is a whole 'nother beast.) Once the game transitions into more advanced enemies they'll be completely lost.
Also, as much fun as it'd be to see them try XCOM 2, I don't think they're quite ready yet. The XCOM EU to EW to XCOM 2 to (hopefully) WotC gameplay all build upon the previous foundation, so not getting one chain in the link will make the later ones harder.
I haven't watched yet but from reading I'm not surprised Dan torpedoed the whole thing for 'entertainment value' and didn't even try beyond his self-preservation shtick.
Yeah, maybe it defeats the purpose in spirit but it would be good for them to have all been present for the first handful of eps until the game is at least done tutorializing so they could get the basics down.

This EA conference without GB is hard to watch.
They really should go out of their way to get Dan killed
To add on to my earlier thing about a tutorial/basics explaining video, I think at this point Vinny at the very least should probably read up on how some things work?
That way he can totally let them flounder when it's funny but also go "no, that literally won't work" if needed? Or not. Things are fun like this but I don't know if Vinny as a constant presence works as well if he's just as confused as them.
They have a feature called Game Tapes. It's been years since they've done it, but if I'm remembering correctly, I think it's them doing commentary over past events. I'm not completely sure about that, though. Someone want to confirm?it sure is.
have they ever done a 'Giantbomb talks over ....' for a conference posthumously?

They realize that bad conferences are more memorable. People still talk about that Konami conference and the PS3 reveal conference. Who talks about the good ones? It's like EA has delved into the realms of bizarre self-parody with these conferences. Baffling stuff.
I hope they just immediately kill Dan during the next episode so he can start playing the game like a normal person.

it's finished, you didn't miss anythingThere's an EA conference going on ?
Sadly I think people won't want to watch a turn based RPG for a series. You're right that they wouldn't get far in the game, but since Tactics makes it a lot easier to fail upwards, I bet they'd get there eventually.
A chicken dinner is waiting. A hundred killers are on the loose. And the Island of Murders is about to explode.
