Giant Bomb Thread 2: A thread on a popular internet message board

You don't have to listen to a podcast all at once, and you're free to skip around if there's a part you don't like. Virtually none of the hour of Mass Effect talk last week was of any interest to me, but I'm not crazy enough to suggest that they should cut that. Keep the Bombcast as it is!
I listen to the Bombcast usually in about 2 days during my commute, so the long podcast is really nice for me actually.

So Jeff gave SFxT a 3/5. A big reason being the gems and the online's sound being broken.

But a game with one of the worst netcodes in fighting history gets a 5/5 I'm sure I get 'bleh bleh bleh' i'm dissenting voice!', but I don't understand how terrible online problems with matchmaking and constant lag during online fights > so-so lag during fights but no sound

I'm guessing it has to do with the high amount of single player, offline content available.

And fanboyism.

Jeff Gerstmann loves Mortal Kombat!? HOLY FUCK STOP THE PRESSES. SHUT IT ALL DOWN.

Of course he was going to absolutely love the first good Mortal Kombat game in years.

For the podcasting think 2:30 is perfect, no rush, flows naturally.

I'm hoping the guys can get back to their great TNTs with the effort behind them.

It started with Dead Island and the coop runs, so entertaining. Would really like to see that format return.

Yeah, TNT is best when it's the guys playing together, usually. The ones with the community are rarely as good (even though that's the biggest part of it).

Plus, keep Whitta away. He's on too many.

Then you'd think between the single player content and great netcode, Blazblue could've been a 4/5

Man, you are hilarious

I agree, Fortune Street quick look was god like. Best one to date. I don't even watch TNTs of shooters anymore, it just really is way too boring watching them die for 2 hours.

Agreed. Though at that point it becomes basically a long QL, not that I'm complaining.

I do like community fighting game TNTs when they do tournaments and stuff, shooting and racing is usually boring though, when it's not quirky stuff like Trackmania.

Probably a big part of it. I really wish Capcom fighters had that much content.

Whoa what, really? Huh...

What is video games.

I don't really care anyway. I know better than to get into any kind of argument over fighting games. I've already made a grave mistake.

I don't really care that much about fighting games, but I'm seriously curious why one thing is more important than the other. It's the only problem I've ever had with Jeff's reviews. Not Blitz, not Tony Hawk, but his love of Mortal Kombat seems almost like it'd be a problem. Like, even Brad thought the 3D MKs were dumb.

I agree. The only entertaining FPS TNT I can recently remember is Battlefield 3.

Also Quake TNT was awesome of course.

And he gave MK vs DC a 5/5 so it would have been hard to give the much better next MK game a lower score.

I suppose this could be part of the reason why Jeff wants to change the Giant Bomb review process and have it be more based on the personal tastes of the editors, now that their likes/dislikes have been established.

Oh wow, the Tested, Screened etc. links at the bottom of the GB homepage have finally been replaced by Comicvine/Gamespot.

I just realized when I clicked the Gamespot link in the footer that I have not been to the Gamespot homepage in years. I've been linked to stories or videos but not to the front page. It doesn't look anything like I remember.

There is something so incredably mid 00's about gamespot.

I cant put my finger on what it is but the website just makes me think about the year 2006.

Fuck me, I left on Thursday for Paddy's weekend and have been on a small internet blackout since then. This is really shocking.

Hmm. Gamespot link on Giantbomb, no Giantbomb mention on Gamespot.

Also, how lame is it that when I clicked on the Gamespot logo, the FIRST THING I got was one of those ADs page. Click here to continue... ugh...

Tested did. They're staying for GiantBomb. Which is good, because I need my weekly Vinny/Dave/Drew-looks-at-old-games.
I agree with you pretty much all the way, I just wonder why the premium membership needs to exist now. Is it for those who payed for a year? Once that phases out I can't see them needing the funding because of CBS...

According to Formspring, it does seem like Klepek is interested in doing his own 'Jar time' equivalent.

Yeah, especially since there's so much news that happens that we either don't talk about on the podcast or doesn't get thrown up on the site proper. If there's support, I could be into that as a subscriber video.

I actually don't mind his voice unlike some of ya lunatics. I'm mildly curious what his 'bed hair' would look like.

A Jar Time with Patrick would be great.

I'm with you. I don't understand the constant hate for Patrick. Ya'll just jealous of his youthful looks. (actually it's primarily Giant Bomb's own community that hates on him)

Whenever he becomes excited about something he dislikes, he yells it. Like the recent podcast about him complaining about ME3, about the guy wanting a refund; Did that part really deserve that type of boisterous reaction?

that's the worst form of ads in my opinion. To be hit with an ad first thing while trying to get into a site is shitty.

I really like Patrick but I'm not sure I'd be interested in him speaking into a webcam for 90 mins. He's best when he's engaging other people. You have to be a certain type of person to speak solo for an extended period and remain interesting/entertaining.

No harm in giving it a shot though!

I think it's endearing. Dude is passionate.

Admittedly though I don't think he works as well as a solo act, or with Ryan. Ideally I want him to be interviewing people. Lots of people.

So much Jar-Time lately... I love it.

Jar-Time with all of the GB staff would be nice. Patrick's needs to be with his arcade cabinets. Mostly because I've missed the discussion, but it'd be nice anyways!

Now that I think about it a Jar Time type feature might not be what he's best suited for. Maybe something equally unusual/personal but with another person in the picture. Interaction with others is definitely his strong suit.

I can kind of understand that, for me personally I love that kind of energy and passion. I like to hear people getting pumped up about the games industry.

Jeff knows what the people want.

I've noticed that too. That's always been a very Ryan thing to do; Patrick still mimics the mannerisms of the other guys a bit too much. It takes time to find your own unique voice.

Noticing a theme with post-Whiskey GB content

Load Our Last Save and Random PC Game are amazing.

So are the old school quick looks like Celebrity Poker.
God yes. Random PC Game is just the best shit ever. They need to take a break from their flight simulator kick and get back to FMV games from the 90's.

Load Our Last Save is really good too just because of how well Drew and Vinny play off each other.

They should spin off Random PC game and make a Giant Bomb Adventure series where they play adventure games.

Those always end up being the best Random PC games.
