I thought part of the review deal with publishers was that you got literally every single thing they released. I'm sure they have gotten tons of games that they haven't reviewed too.

No, you get what they want you to get, when and if they want you to get it.

... Sounds great? Like, crazy-Rorie is the best Rorie.

More like annoying rorie :/

I actually like Rorie a lot but the Oscar podcast was terrible. He was acting like a child and constantly derailing it and being annoying in general. I had to stop listening halfway through. The most annoying part is he was constantly screaming, I don't mind adjusting my iPod's volume but I hate doing it every 15 seconds or so.

Yeah, I agree.

None of them played it before the site GOTY except for Dave and he wasn't involved in that.

Not to sound bitter because I don't really care about the thing, but it reminds me of the uDraw quick look. Where they mentioned how it didn't sell well and then Brad said something about how he had one sitting around but never showed it off until now. You think that kind of mentality among press is partially responsible for why it didn't sell well?

But it did sell well. It sold extremely well on Wii. THQ's problem was thinking that spending a bunch of money to port it to HD consoles was a good idea, which it wasn't.

I mean, what would the increased processing power even do to help a simplistic DRAWING PROGRAM anyway? What audience was there that saw uDraw and thought, "that looks awesome, but I have to wait for the HD version?"

Forgot to post it last night, but TNT got amazinger when they started up Evochron. Dave stressing out and yelling at Vinny on how to fly was hilarious.

That is not entirely true, because if you are on the right mailing list with the right pr people you get games regardless of review intent or if you asked or not.

Finally had time today to watch Flight QL and TNT, BOTH AMAZING GOD that Flight QL was so fucking good.
Entertaining, educational and just plain fun to watch! :D

The shady as fuck thing is publisher's lying about shit recently.

They will say "oh yeah it's in the mail you will definitely get it before release!" and they never intended to send a copy.

or

"Hey can you put your gamertag on private so other game reviewers don't know we excluded them???"

At least if a publisher is honest "hey 5 star scale fucks with our meta critic we won't send one" I could have respect for them.

Yeah I usually like that podcast but felt so bad for Norm/Joey. Rorie was basically a bad caricature of himself in that instance.

The problem with Rorie is that he's a 30 something years old dude acting like a college kid. Partying and getting drunk all the time and then spending the rest of his time hungover and complaining and acting like a child. See Oscar cast where he spent the night drinking and not even watching the show...

Anyway, his lack of maturity was always the most annoying thing for me during the happy hours shows (well except the comic vine segments of course...but that's a different story lol).

Due to the personality focus of GB (and the other Whiskey sites), I am legitimately sad/worried when stuff happens to them like this.

Hope everything turns out okay for Jeff :/

Yeah, shit. Best wishes to jeff and his family. Just saw the tweet.

It's honestly a little weird. Someone mentioned getting rid of a bike to me the other day, and I said "a guy I know threw his bike in the bushes when he moved out of his house haha". Then two minutes later I realized it was a Jeff story from the endurance run (I think) and I felt like the biggest psyco in the history of ever. Also have had similar thoughts pop into my head during conversations in real life which is SUPER WEIRD. Someone I know bought an arcade cabinet and about 10 giant bomb arcade cabinet stories just popped in my head like I actually knew them in person.

Between Literally hundreds of Podcasts, hundreds of quick looks, hundred other random videos, 200ish endurance run episodes. Jeff is probably in the top 10 if not top 5 in the pure length/amount I have heard someone's voice during my life. Only people I've probably heard more are maybe my parents and three of my friends that I've had for 12-13 years.

Hope everything works out alright for Jeff, hope it's not too serious :(

I know what you mean, I've been following these guys since the beginning. Starting with Points! on jeffgerstmann.net and Arrow Pointing Down I've been a member of GB since it first launched and it's crazy to think about how much time I've spent just listening to these guys.

It's a weird situation but why not re-tell the story if it's a funny one? It's easier to say "a guy I know" then get into the explanation of "you see theres these dudes who do stupid stuff on the internet that I watch and well..."

Whille it's true we do hear a lot about their lives and many of us have heard them talk for months (maybe years) cumulatively, remember you're getting a small snapshot here and there. Snapshots that are very specific. You might think you know their personality exactly (such as the above dissection of Rorie) but honestly you can't come to a conclusion based on podcasts and videos on a website. Even if they do often talk about stuff outsides of games, movies etc.

Yeah. I've thought before how a death of a staff member would basically ruin the site. How do you go on making goofy videos when Brad's dead?

This is random...but whenever I see brad in a video, I think of Anakin in phantom menace all grown-up.

Yeah, I'm definitely more invested in the crew (or at least their entertainment personas) than I am in any other media personalities I can think of. Part of that can be attributed to the inherently personal nature of podcasts, but even beyond that, the majority of their exclusive content hinges on their opinions, humor, showmanship and antics. There are a lot of Quick Looks for games that I have no interest in ever buying that I still watch, and it's largely to check out their perspectives and reactions.

Normally, if I were to see a site like Screened struggle, I wouldn't give a shit, but I really want them to succeed. I have no actual information about that site's performance, so for all I know it's already profitable, but the inconsistency with the podcast and the general lack of content are worrying. With Alex in New York and working for Giant Bomb a lot of the time, it just seems like too much for Rorie to handle.

I really feel bad for Jeff, and I feel bad that he had to announce it publicly. I'm guessing that if this wasn't Mass Effect 3 week, and if he wasn't doing the review, he wouldn't have announced it.

But, you know what? I hope he takes the time he needs and stuff works out. The site and the review can wait.

Dave Laing's Kasavin impression in the 360 showcase video is hilarious. And superb editing in there (from Vinny?) as usual.

Really hope whatever Jeff and his family is going through turns out for the best. Crazy dedication that he's even attempting to finish a big game review. I probably wouldn't be able to get a single sentence down.
