Ok. let me get this straight.

comicvine + GB + dave are going to CBS

Tested + anime vice + the engineering team are going to the other company.

WHATS HAPPENING TO DREW?

So let me see if I've got this straight:

  • GB wasn't making money (or enough money) in its current incarnation
  • Gamespot buys them out thinking they can turn it around
  • GB claims it's going to be the same old site we know and love
That makes no sense.

Gamespot obviously thinks they can wring a profit out of GB, they're not buying it out of the goodness of their hearts. If GB stays the same presumably it will generate the same revenues (even less now with people cancelling their subs.) So how on earth can it remain the same?

I've yet to see a merger of this nature go well, and I remain pessimistic as to the outcome of this one.

Still, hope springs eternal, and I will continue forward with the GB crew and hope for the best :).
GiantBomb was one independent gamesite with a relatively small team that had to do pretty much everything and had to take care of their own facilitities and travel and whatever else. As part of CBS Interactive, GiantBomb will be part of a company that already has pretty great studio facilities, a big office, people excellent at selling advertising, and more access to other companies. The GiantBomb-crew can now focus wholly on pumping out content; a lot of the travelplanning and making sure the studio had the right equipment is now kinda taken care of. That makes the site cheaper to maintain, presumably, and because they now have a proper team of people looking for advertisers they can probably rake in more money too.

TL;DR: less overhead + more effective advertising = probably more money = success

He's going to CBS, too. A few of the other engineering-guys will be making the jump as well.

Drew is confirmed to be going to CBS with Giant Bomb. Everyone involved with Giant Bomb is still involved with Giant Bomb. Drew is Giant Bomb's exclusive cameraman so naturally he's going with them.

I find it pretty funny in hindsight all the people bitching at me in this thread for wondering out loud why there had been so little content on the sites recently.

Look on the bright side, now you can't bitch about the lack of content as a subscriber, cause you aren't one now!

This is just all really weird, I haven't been to GameSpot in YEARS since Jeff got fired and the rest of the staff quit. Any recognizable names from when Jeff/Ryan were still working there? Jeff mentioned Kevin VanOrd, but he was a late addition.

I feel like I need to start hoarding old archive videos. GB was my Tv/Radio. I would always have old videos running when I was working or doing thing around my house. Just not have the Tested Team around is going to be depressing.

"Here we Norm in his natural enviroment, a cold black void with a PC"
I should probably get some work done but I am seriously bummed out.

I don't really think that anything Giantbomb does would benefit from more money. The laidback and halfassed stuff is all part of their charm.

I'm sure the guys could benefit from more money, so I'm happy for them at least.

When they got more money, it lead to things like the motherfucking TriCaster. So just imagine what other stupid shit they can buy...

More money will always lead to better equipment, bigger ideas, etc etc.

The charm of GB comes from the way they do things. That will stay consistent if the same personalities are there.

Just look at the Tricaster...

Edit: Sorta beat.

When they get expensive shit in, like green screens, tricasters, etc, things get awesome fast. If they have a booth at E3 this/next year, shit will be bananas.

One of you dudes should cover my back! I'm at work for the gerstmann interview ya'll should pm me a link to the j.tv archive so I can watch it the second i get home. :D

Diablo 3 has a final release date.
A Wasteland 2 is being developed, fan funded over a million dollars through the internet 25 years later.
Obsidian Entertainment and THQ are on their last legs.
1UP implodes for good.
There is a Molydeux Game Jam actually happening and may feature Peter himself.
Giant Bomb gets bought by CBSi.

What the fuck is going on guys?

Just now had a chance to check this thread.

Man, I would really like to be optimistic, but this is super depressing. Not in a million years would I have guessed this was going to be the news. Geez...

I wish you all the best, GB crew and WM staff.

Serious question here...

I personally do not like Comics, so I view the Comic Vine portion of the Whiskey Media family to be the weakest site they offered. Am I alone in this feeling, or do people really have that big of an attachment towards comics?
