Giant Bomb Thread 2: A thread on a popular internet message board

Soooo...

- Dave is going with the GB crew, as is Alex.
- The GameSot memberships are completely optional and completely separate from the GB premium memberships.
- Giant Bomb as a whole will still be a completely separate site and entity from Gamespot.

...yep, we're good here.

Still, a giant corporate identity buying a smaller site and letting that one thrive is kind of rare. But anyway, Gamespot is doomed now that Patrick is on board.

Has there been any talk of refunds for annual subscribers? I realize I don't have much legal basis for making such a demand, but if anyone's heard anything one way or another I'd appreciate it. Threads/comments are moving fast, can't search it all.

The fact they all have previous/existing and close relations with said "giant corporate entity" makes all the difference. Familiar faces working with familiar people. Pretty different from what you're envisioning in my opinion.

Seems like no.

They sort of explained it away as, "98% of subscribers were there for Giantbomb, and that stuff is still continuing".

I still think they should, but I don't even know who would be doing the refunding at this point.

Where will I be able to see the Behind the Gerstmann thing with John Davison in 40 minutes?

Is it weird that I am super excited to hear that story?

That's my biggest worry at the moment. Also :lol at the image from the other thread of GB being gone (as we know it) within a year after Patrick joining.

Seems like a reasonable attitude for now. I'm pessimistic about the future, though. I'll wait and see how things go. Can't do much else but that.

I got to hear most of that story from Jeff in Boston last year while at PAX East. I was really, really, drunk though and I'm not sure I remembered parts of it correctly.

So in other words, I'm excited to hear it too, haha.

I really hope he goes with Giantbomb.

Screened is basically dead at this point, and it doesn't sound like there would be much of a place for him with Tested.

Going with GB seems like the best option.
I'd really love to see him hook up with Giant Bomb as well but I'm not sure that's an option for him.

Unfortunate, but c'est la vie I suppose.

Rorie's comment could mean a lot of things. Maybe he's simply still waiting on a confirmation on where he's headed.

It's not like they all packed their shit and never told him.

I'm trying to place the feeling around this.

A break up?

Moving?

Friends going to different schools? / Leaving uni for a gap year or coming back?

It must be crazy for the guys and the gamespot staff too.
The guys responsible for the site, the old guard are returning back to be a sister site but are senior.

Can't wait for the Debreif about the sacking in full gorey detail.

Give their independence about 3 months. See Gowalla and Posterous. Being bought out is a talent acquisition, little more.

If they start getting bossed around by execs, what's to stop them from leaving again? Seriously?

I'm ready for "Giant Bomb 2: This Time, It's Personal"

It's crazy how excited I am to hear about Jeff being fired. I know the story probably won't be as interesting as we imagine, but it's been so long!

I loved at PAX one year when the GFW guys talked about what really went down at Ziff. Jeff Green and Ryan Scott just talked so much shit about them, haha.

It's not that hard to believe that GS would have required the principles (Jeff, Ryan, Vinny, Brad) to sign something requiring they stay on with the company for a year or so.

What else are they buying other than the guys talent?

Was that recorded anywhere? It's hard to imagine Ryan Scott talking shit. Isn't he the little guy that Sean would tease on GFW?

now that some more details have been released, and I have had a chance to look at everything.

I think this might be a big step foward for GB..

Still think tested got the better end of the deal

For anyone who gives a fuck about this part, I don't expect the change to affect my ability to occasionally show up in Giant Bomb content like TNT to irritate their audience. The CBS offices are about the same drive from my house as the old WM ones were, the only difference I won't be able to just transition from the Tested podcast to the TNT couch as both were usually recorded on the same day in the same office. But I have friends at Gamespot as well as GB so I'm happy to make the trip and take part in any content they might want me for.

tl;dr SHOOT THAT GUY

That's because they made no sub content for the other sites.
