Giant Bomb Thread 2: A thread on a popular internet message board

I feel I have to quote myself:

Hang about if Will and Norm are actually happy and still getting paid, what is really so wrong.

And if Giant Bomb, Dave and Comic Vine are happy and still getting paid, what really is so wrong.

But honestly if the dudes who were part of WhiskeyMedia sites are happy and are getting paid what is so wrong.

OK, these are going up out of chronological order. We shot this on Thursday morning, immediately after our live broadcast.

Things at the new office are going pretty well, it's just taking some time to get set up to shoot proper Quick Looks and stuff. But I've got this copy of Binary Domain over here and, damn it, we're going to do something with it soon.

Looks like we're getting some more footage. Sweet.

People understand that it makes sense. That doesn't change the fact that it's still pretty shitty.

It makes sense, but it's just weird. Also the fact they are everywhere on the site, even when there are 2 other people.

I look at it this way - if they decided to make their own website instead of buy Tested, which they could have done based on name recognition alone, then Tested itself would probably be dead.

This is the Jamie and Adam site, with staff writing by Will and Norm. That's how they're going to sell it to get their fans to come to the website.

Yeah. Jamie was already tweeting about the site, they will probably advertise the site on the Mythbusters show itself. That will be a huge influx of new readers.

Shame that it'll probably all be PG-13, but still, this is probably a lucky break for both Will and Norm.

Sucks to see Will and Norm be marginalized on their own site, but I guess that's to be expected. I also just realized that this might mean Tested will never get that wiki.

I don't know why I love videos of the guys sitting around, on laptops in silence, then talking about planning a day that has already happened.

But I do.

God I'm a loser.

I have a question. Maybe it has been answered a dozen times but with the vast amounts of info and video flowing out, maybe I missed it.

In the video with John Davison, Jeff mentioned that the deal was just decided yesterday but later he mentions they were moving out for some time. Was Whiskey Media closing down and if this GameSpot deal didn't happen there would be no more Giant Bomb?

This deal has been in the works for months. My guess is that once the deal came to sell the other half of Whiskey to BermanBraun, they ended the lease on the office and moved out. I'm guessing Whiskey knew that this CBSi deal would eventually click, but they were really pushing them to finalize it so they could announce it with the BermanBraun thing.

They've mentioned before, but Giant Bomb was too big to just shut down. If Whiskey needed to close up shop, GB would have definitely been sold off to some other party.

I don't really have a problem with Tested becoming a Mythbusters related website...but the flaunting of Adam and Jamie makes me cringe: "Jamie & Adam - Tested". I doubt those two are going to produce more content than Will and Norm. But whatever, they will do whatever generates the most traffic. It is what it is.

man its getting real bad, i'm watching the samurai showdown sen quick look right now... i need new content so badly

I've said this before, but between moving in, PAX East, and separating the two halves of the old Whiskey, I really don't expect a regular flow of content until mid-April.

But note that it's not a MYTHBUSTERS site. It's an Adam and Jaime site. I believe Discovery owns the Mythbusters name and stuff, but they obviously don't own Adam and Jaime.

The more video I see the more it just assures me all is right.

Just keep pumping it into my veins.

Pretty much! I was certainly much more pessimistic for how this would all shake out after the live stream announcement. But having watched Jeff's talk with John Davison, and now this video - I'm feeling cautious that at least things will be OK going forward. Might still blow out in a year, but I'll take another year of GB content if I can get it.

Like that Bombcast clip floating around said - It's good until it isn't. Not a bad deal from where I am sitting.

Does anyone know what happened to...Mike? I think it was Mike. He knew a ton about MMo's, was on during the end of Star Wars: Galaxies.

And Will and Norm not getting any credit for everything on the site.

Do you really think Jamie and Adam have the time to do a video review of the latest gadget or gizmo? I have a feeling that the amount of video content that have Will+Norm will be exponentially higher than Jamie+Adam.

Mike Horn? He and rest of the Top Men are going to the other side. Oh god, just reminded me that the Top Men has been separated

And Will and Norm not getting any credit for everything on the site.

There's a video where Adam and Jamie are personally introducing Will and Norm, and they are explaining how they are going to be pushing a lot of content.

What else did you expect? Tested.com was a very, very niche site with a small audience.
I'm baffled Adam and Jamie even gave the guys the props they did, they could have just kept it with names and called it a day.

One year versus... end now?

I'll take the year. And if it lasts longer? Awesome! If it starts to die out... I won't get enjoyment out of it dying slowly, but It won't just turn to shit in a day, I'll still enjoy it, just maybe a little less.

So yeah. I'm on board, I guess.
