Giant Bomb Thread 2: A thread on a popular internet message board

It's so weird because they had all this teh, from te green screen to the cameras to everything else, but it seems like nobody got them. Tested are building their own stuff and are currently stuck with working at home, and i don't think Comic Vine or Screened got anything either -- just where the hell did it all go?

Maybe Shelby sold it all?

They should always keep a secretly-recorded Endurance Run in the vault in case circumstances prevent them from providing as many individual pieces of content as they should.

I think they have been doing alright for how many big things have been popping up lately. Personally i wish there was more behind the scenes Jeff vids when things get light, as i love seeing the guys do what they do. While alot of sites always try to offer the inside scoop of the gaming industry i always admired giant bombs look at the process of doing what they do while talking and relating it to the games industry.

To be fair there were other reasons in play. For example Vinny having his first baby, them going to PAX, Drew going on vacation, having to deal with new management over costs & whatnot and planning for E3. Not to mention they were still doing QLs, TNTs and shit. So yeah, maybe we cut them some slack, guys.

Going to PAX was such a great idea, I mean, we got at least 2 videos out of it.

Based on Jeff's mildly disgusted laughter at the notion of them getting a tricorder again on a recent Bombcast...I doubt it.
They got 2 tricasters last week. They both showed up just in time to be sent off to E3.

Listening to the barnettcast and it reminds why I'm not a big fan of Paul Barnett on the podcast. He always manages to say next to nothing in the most verbose way possible.

To be honest the past year has been a great reason to have a premium membership. The jar times themselves have been reason enough for me.

Before I was paying $50 a year to them as a charity, now it feels like I'm getting a product.

So confirmed guests for the E3 podcasts so far: Adam Sessler, Rich Gallup, Cowboy, David Jaffe. Looking good.

i am sure after the E3 they will step up their game
this!

They had to get settled in.
There is only so much a 7 man team can do in 8/9 hours a day.
Plus most of they guys work FAR FAR more hours than that if you count all the games they review in their own time and planning and setting up stuff in their own time.

Also having a lot of meetings about materials and provisions for there new office.
It all takes time.

They will have proper studio after E3 and when you look at Drew SC piece and the Pre-E3 show Nothing has changed except that they right now do not have they space they need to continue WM offices work.
But once that is all back its going to be great and even more awesome with more content than before.

This needs to be repeated. If you've watched all of the hand-cam, behind the scenes vids, you'll see that they are in a temporary space and they don't have a proper studio set up. Their quick look room looks jerry-rigged out of a closet. They don't have their own green screen set up. They're still ordering supplies. It's taking longer than most of us hoped but they'll get there eventually. Most of these things are out of their hands and there's nothing they can really do about it but wait seems like.

Whoa. I was looking that the quantcast numbers for Gamespot, and I dragged the bar on the graph as far back as I could go... wow, what the fuck? They have half the traffic they had just two years ago, which was probably half of what they had two years before that. What the hell happened?

And before anyone asks; I have no idea how reliable quantcast is. All I know is that Jeff linked to it in this thread once to show Giant Bomb's numbers.

Edit: I wonder if this is the reason GB got bought? Gamespot is a doomed ship, and Davison sees something like Giant Bomb as the future. I would have believed this more readily had I seen any evidence at this point that GB was getting corporate support.

So you're saying their numbers started dropping sometime around 2007/2008? I remember something big happening there around that time...

I would have expected a ~20% drop from the Gerstmanngate in total over a few months, and then for the site to even out. I would not have expected it to continue to decline rapidly for the last two years, after the dust from the first fallout had completely settled.

If people recall, I was saying way back when they were acquired that the site wouldn't be getting fully back up to speed until mid-July. I still hold to that prediction.

Never underestimate the impact of a tainted reputation. Nobody trusted it. I wasn't a huge Gamespot fan before Gerstmanngate (I was a 1Up guy), but after that I would actively avoid going there. I still don't really go there.

The entire games press media was changing and only 1up (back in the day) and giantbomb where actively trying to be different.
IGN gamespot etc were really sitting on their traffic and doing nothing.

That is why GS hired John to help FIX that, IGN started youtube START thing and other sites are also chancing.
But for GS with a 16 year backlog, to change over night is not something you can easily do.

Yeah, I was mainly a Gamespot person during that time and then fled never to return.

Many people there were just over it.

Except it seems since John was hired things have only gotten worse. Though the numbers aren't probably very accurate, considering Gamespot doesn't opt-into the program like it seems Giant Bomb had.

I remember when Davison was hired to help fix Gamepro, and I was all excited because I had loved 1Up back in the day. ... Then a year later he left and Gamepro was shut down. And I have no idea what he did at Gamepro during his time. ... I... I guess the articles got a little better? Yay... something that matters less and less with every passing day.

Yeah, I didn't even use the gamespot code included with the GB subscription.

This I didn't follow games super closely until after Gertsmanngate but after hearing about it I literally NEVER went to gamespot.

Looking good indeed!
I would be super excited if they manage to snag Geoff Keighley as well, i'd love to hear him talk videogames without a GTTV cameracrew following his every move, preferably with a few drinks in him.

Also: Jeff will start streaming his trip to E3 today, right? Is this still the right place to look for it?

He did an EXCELLENT job at Gamepro. It was a gamer's game mag you could read without feeling talked down to.

Kessler.

The only thing coming out of the original ILM was a list of things that might be showing up during the week. Since most of the stuff mentionned in the ILM never makes it on the site anyway, it's completly pointless to have the old ILM.

With the new format, at least, you get to see stuff happening around the office, hear funny things and visit the floor. Might not be much but it's still better than a list of empty promises.
I don't care. It was an entertaining video with actual production value. My wife and I watched it every Monday, she certainly didn't care if they talked about something that didn't happen. Now we just don't bother.

Plus unlike some people around here I actually like Ryan, plus the intro video and song were funny.

Maybe Whiskey Media sold it all.

I was a Gamespot fan (mainly for reviews) and never touched it again after Gerstmanngate. So i agreed with Jeff after his explanation on how unfortunate it was for that situation basically undoing everything Gamespot built up over those years and all because of an inept management team.
