I don't think people asking "should I get game X for two bucks?" are actually asking literally that as much as they are asking if it's worth playing at all. Also, does no one at GB have a press account for Steam? Valve were really generous with them a couple of years ago. Tto fansites, even.

Well both Brad and Jeff have 1400+ games, so I'd assume they do. Why the guys that usually cover PC don't, I don't know.

I thought they even indirectly mentioned in this episode that Brad and Jeff are the only ones with press accounts. Something like "I know Brad and I dont have to get games the same way other people do"

But then Jeff said he got Grimrock? Am I missing something here?

Not all games are included in Steam press accounts, for some reason. I don't really know why this is, but there's a number of games not automatically added to press collections. It can be even more random for DLC: there's games that are free for press, including half the DLC, but then other pieces of DLC suddenly aren't included.

Oh, weird. I thought the fluctuating number of games (Steam has way more than 1400) was a bug but maybe it's actually that fluctuating.

After this last podcast I'm really getting tired of Jeff's whole "I automatically hate anything that's popular and/or non-ironically great" shtick.

:p

I'm really hoping Jeff gets a hold of a copy of A Valley Without Wind. It's such a bizarre game and I'm really interested in hearing his thoughts on it.

Hopefully Brad tries out Frozen Synapse, too. That game deserves more love.

I'm real disappointed Jeff didn't record cleaning out his garage. He hinted that maybe he was going to on the sick days video, and I found it interesting. I wonder if he just didn't think it would be interesting or just plain didn't want to bother.

Well, while I hate both of those things myself, the latter especially, and while I also haven't finished the podcast yet, I think you're being unfair to Jeff. He LOVES a lot of popular and great stuff; Arkham City, Gears 3, Borderlands, Skyrim, Street Fighter IV, etc.

His tastes are hard to nail, though.

My guess is that it turned out to be a lot more work than he had realized when he made that video. And moving stuff from one room to another isn't really conducive to a very compelling video. We kind of got the gist of it through his tweets anyways.

I do hope he films that video game vault stuff though, I definitely want to see that.

I still don't understand people that say things like this.

I guess it's time for Jeff to make a month-long article event of "The Top 100 Games I Like that Other People Know So They'll Stop Making the Ridiculous Assumption that I Hate Everything/Am Jaded."

Or just ignore it. Yeah, I'd do that one, too.

Jeff's a bit of a joke, enjoy when he says something funny but it's best to ignore all his opinions.

Maybe he's referring to his outright refusal to even consider watching Game of Thrones.

Yeah he's a bit weird for that. To each its own but he's the only person I've ever seen who completly refuse to watch any of the Nolan movies (Batman trilogy, Inception) or Game of Thrones.

It's fine if you don't like it but it's different from being "proud" to say you haven't seen them.

He seems to nurture this shallow irony loving man character.

I don't think he actually loves to hate certain games/movies/music/etc. He's just been around the block a few times and knows what's up, that's all. He knows his likes and dislikes, and he'd rather focus on the former than the latter.

After I posted I realised how strong that sounds, I think I'm talking more about his persona, when it comes to must he only talks about 'summer jams' and shitty local hip hop, film is mostly 2 Fast Tokyo Drift.

Either you've never heard him talk about hip hop before or you don't really know what shitty local hip hop is.

I meant for forms of media that aren't video games.

Is it really that weird to not care for Game of Thrones? It's a great show and it's certainly popular, but it's still aimed at a relatively small niche. If that genre isn't your thing, you won't care for Game of Thrones. Period. There's plenty of shows where I can tell that they're objectively good/great, but they're just not my thing.

And it's not like he hates *all* good TV. He's made plenty of references to watching comedy stuff like Colbert Report or the new Comedy Bang Bang TV-show or other shows that are popular *and* good.

But whatever. This is a pretty stupid discussion anyway, probably. :P

it is possible that a majority of popular and/or non-ironically great things are pretty gross.

Kind of throwing the baby out with the bathwater there.

I think it's not so much Jeff's taste that's the problem. It's mostly just a shtick that's getting a little old.

Rest of the guys: "hey Jeff, everyone thinks this thing is great, and so do we, you should check it out!"
Jeff: "Nah."

Then again I also think the best books/movies/games rise above the genre they are in, i.e. they are also enjoyable to someone who is isn't a fan of the genre at all.

Ah. Well there you might have a point. But aside from music, I get the feeling Jeff doesn't really like any other form of media all that much. And then on the music front, he likes a ton of popular stuff there as well.

Jeff secretly likes things he says he hates. i've noticed this. oh yes, it's true.

I support Jeff for not wanting to watch Game of Thrones.

It's not something that directly appeals to me, and the entire internet has been circlejerking about GoT for months and months now. It's fucking annoying.

In the end I ended up watching the first two seasons, and it's okay at best. He's not really missing out.
I also still intensely dislike the internet fanboyism surrounding it.

It's not too surprising to me that Jeff isn't interested in Game of Thrones. Seems like more of a sci-fi guy than a fantasy guy.

I haven't seen it either. Even if I had cable, I'd rather watch any shitty sci fi thing over fantasy greats like GoT or even Lord of the Rings.

Gerstmann just doesn't give a fuck, and we can all learn from that.

I am also sick of hearing about Game of Thrones. That medieval fantasy bullshit can go die in a tired tire fire.

edit: It's not so much about not liking things because a lot of people like them, it's about being annoyed when everyone is talking about this singular thing you have no interest in whatsoever.

I'm kickstarting my Phantasy Star Online script idea so HBO will pick it up.

Gonna have lots of sex scenes too, to leech off the GoT crowd.
We're turning "feed my MAG" into a whole new thing.

Jeff rules. Gripers drool.

I do think he should check out Walking Dead, but at the same time I feel like he's probably played his fill of zombie games by now. No shame in taking a breather.

Doesn't Jeff tend to play games that focus on gameplay more than story? I doubt he'd enjoy Walking Dead.

I agree, sometimes. For example the story in Spec Ops the Line is suppose to be amazing, which is something that doesnt happen in gaming a lot, yet he chooses to say its just okay because of the gameplay. For me though I dont care, because from my point of view I would say they could only focus on one big thing and they chose the story.

Theres nothing wrong with his opinion though, its why I love Giant Bomb I feel like I know them, and what they think about video games.

But there is times I love the way he looks at things. I would've never given Binary Domain a chance if it wasn't for that quick look. And he can pull out these fun obscure, also falted, experiences to light and its a great time.
