Giant Bomb Thread The Third: #TeamBrad

I really hope that Scoops' System Shock 2 run gets a follow up. Game is great and scary to boot, especially if Tricky hasn't played it before.

They have been quick to upload TNT lately so I was hoping that I could watch it tonight while I did some dishes, but after hearing about the AC3 spoiler bomb, I hope they take the time to edit that part out, or better yet, put a censored and an uncensored version on the site.

I'm not going to play AC3 until the PC version comes out and with a game as focused on story and weird twists as AC3 is, I would appreciate not being spoiled on the single player experience in the release week in a video that was supposedly purely about the multiplayer.

What were the spoilers exactly? Could someone repeat what Ryan said (spoiler tagged, of course).

I don't know, all I heard was him saying that
"AC3 is the end of the Desmond trilogy"
from out of nowhere. Since I don't really care too much about AC, I didn't think much of it.

I'm guessing that was it considering Patrick and Jeff both freaked a bit after he said it. I didn't pay too much attention to it at the time, was playing singleplayer lol.

Needed to see for myself, it's about 30 minutes in on the Twitch archive. All Ryan says is AC3 is
the end of the Desmond storyline, one way or another
, neither Patrick nor Jeff freak out or seem even remotely shocked to hear that. It wasn't even out of nowhere, it fit perfectly with what they were discussing. Basically people being big babies over nothing, which is what I imagined.

Maybe because Ubisoft has said this themselves repeatedly.

I thought it was a bit weird if Ryan did actually drop massive spoilers like that. I just watched the archive and I don't see why people are so infuriated by what Ryan actually said. It's hardly spoiling anything. It's so ambiguous (and arguably expected) that I'm not sure how anything was really spoiled. I get that people are really excited about the game and all, but come on, I don't think the story was ruined here.

Seriously, that's the spoiler? Like the poster above says, Ubisoft has mentioned this several times. It's not a spoiler.

There's a big thing that happens in the early part of the game, that's what I thought Ryan must have let slip.

That's been common knowledge for a while now. I freaked out because of mentioning stuff like
Abstergo commercialising the Animus,
which is probably not a major thing but it'd be nice to see that for myself, right? I kept ducking in and out and I found the conversation to be veering into discussion of little things like that, and with this thread and the chat freaking out, I couldn't watch.

It's so ambiguous, yet literally everyone including Patrick and Jeff instantly came to the same conclusion. Weird that.

So why is the onus on me to respect your opinion? Just saying "your argument is severely flawed" and "Just stop" isn't exactly convincing me to take spoiler-phobia more seriously.

How hard is this to understand?

You don't care about spoilers. We get it. You can go freely search for spoilers.

Some people do care about spoilers. They would like a warning prior to being spoiled. Common courtesy dictates you respect your fellow human being and do so.

Unless you're some kind of sociopath devoid of the ability to understand how humans think this shouldn't be rocket science.

Neither of them overtly came to any conclusion, and what he said could end up being many many things.

You really think they were going to overtly say over the stream the implications of what Ryan said? There aren't many many conclusions you can come up with that result in their reactions. I'm not buying that people are walking away taking what he'd said and spinning off a bunch of different interpretations here, obviously every other person talking about it aren't, and Jeff and Ryan expounding on it later on in the discussion make it pretty obvious what at least he took away from it.

All he said is that
it's the end of Desmond's story
, which can mean literally anything. And, as has been pointed out, if you consider that a spoiler then the AC3 marketing has already spoiled it for you.

Here are my predictions on that spoiler:
Desmond is an alien. Desmond is a templar. Desmond is a ghost of an ancient civilization. Desmond is someone else in an even higher level of the Animus.
All of those can exist in what he said.

While you're right in thinking that what was said is open to interpretation, it's not fair to assume that everything advertised by Ubisoft through trailers and interviews is fair game all the time. For me personally, as soon as I heard of a Levine-helmed Bioshock sequel, I was determined to get it day one but I have made it a point not to watch, read, or listen to ANYTHING Bioshock Infinite related that I can help. I don't get mad if a friend links me to a trailer or I see a screenshot here and there while browsing sites, but I'm actively trying to go into Infinite as pure as possible.

Now, I guess you could criticize the people wanting to be spoiler-free for going into a TNT knowing that it would have AC3, but that's their prerogative. And it's week one of a story driven game, you can forgive people for being a little on edge for spoilers, especially since they started the talk during the Need for Speed section.

Plus the chat just took it and ran with it. If you were unfortunate enough to look at the chat after the heavy AC3 discussion, there were enough assholes in the chat ruining the ending. Can't fault the crew for it as they can't control chat, but you can see why some people are upset.

While I respect people's adversion to spoilers in the sense that I'm not going to repeat it without tags, I think people are being ridiculous. And I think people should be less uptight about spoilers in general. So basically I don't try to ruin things for people cause I'm not a dick, but I do think you're crazy. And I'll defend this instance because it was as vague as possible and it lead to an interesting conversation. If you think that was a spoiler I think you're too sensitive.

I've finished the single-player and that is never brought up. It's only relevant for the multiplayer.

I think I like vaguely antagonistic Patrick.

"What, you just want Brad on the chat where he ignores it all the time? Maybe that's what I'll do." Ha.

hahah THAT'S the spoiler that got everybody up in arms? God. I haven't even played AC3 and I knew that because UBISOFT HAS SAID THAT BEFORE.

Heh, pretty much in line with Jeff's view that if you spoil something in the games PR cycle then don't expect the press to dance around it. I get why people are upset when story stuff is revealed, but personally it doesn't effect my enjoyment of the end product. Hell, if it was up to me I'd love them to discuss story stuff whenever they feel like it instead of awkwardly avoiding it and any critical discussion that comes with it.

I tuned in late and I guess I made it in time for Slender?

Did he play anything other than System Shock 2?

So this is moving to twice a month?

He usually sticks with one game for an hour (like he did with System Shock 2), and then plays a couple others for a few minutes each (like Slender and that crappy Elvira text adventure game, wts was that?)

Will have to check out that Sleeping Dogs QL when this is over...

Patrick's really been doing a good job carrying the premium video torch during this review season. Spookin' with Scoops is all there's been since the 10th of last month, though I know the second Blade Runner stream fell through and all.

I hope he returns to Lone Survivor (and maybe even finishes it), since it's something I'll probably never play on my own and I think it's really interesting to watch.
No he hasn't, this is a lie. They are subpar Twitch TV streams at best, rivaling that of a random Dota player's off hours stream. At worst it's completely unwatchable.

Unfit for actual Giantbomb material, and it's hilarious that this has been the paid content for the past month.
To each their own, I guess. I enjoy them, at least the entries past the premiere episode when the stream issues were ironed out. Of course everyone wants more content from the rest of the team, but that he's managed to keep the weekly premium stream going by himself for a month is pretty impressive to me.

Yeah, though Encyclopedia Bombastica popping up as a new idea/feature is cool. I asked Brad in the chat if he had any ideas for a home/more personal stream but aside from Breaking Brad he said he didn't have any ideas for one.

I'd love for each of the crew to have more premium streams or recorded video from home or just outside the office but the realities of that happening anytime soon are pretty slim. I really hope their aspirations to hire more guys on staff comes through, that would definitely help with the workload they have as a small crew.

He's pretty new to streaming so I cut him some slack on that. You can argue about making it premium or not I guess but I enjoy them enough personally.

He's a paid professional, this is his job. No fucking slack at all. He could've built a PC for a month and ran test streams but instead he procrastinated. It's pretty embarrassing!

Jeff understood this, that's why when he started to record quicklooks at his home he bought ACTUAL equipment and educated himself on Twitch beforehand.

Trial by fire as we saw with the first Spookin. The alternative is that he wouldn't even have started yet as he's getting his new PC in about two weeks from now. I agree that perhaps the early streams should be free and not premium as they aren't of decent or even watchable quality though.

what's the shing and the <> about?

A bit outdated, but this explains <>
