If people in the |OT| are enjoying Declassified, more power to them. They simply have way more disposable income then I do. I can't imagine a scenario in which dropping $50 on this game is a smart decision for me. I want a multiplayer shooter on the Vita but port the $10 Gotham City Impostors instead or something - don't try to sell something with the same amount of content for 5 times the price

Reading impressions in the |OT| the game seems fine and I imagine most technical/connection issues will get worked out. A shame they are trying to pass it off at $50 though (in my opinion anyway)

Seems like reviewers are calling it trash but a lot of GAFers love it.

Think I'd trust reviewers over desperate Vita owners at this point, though. That review really does make it sound terrible. Can't wait to hear Jeff trash it verbally. Wonder if Ryan will have played since he got a Vita.

As an owner of Declassified, I agree with all of Jeff's points (though crackling audio is the extent of my tech issues). It seems he hasn't had enough time to get used to the controls (the Vita sticks are inherently over-sensitive), and I can't really think of a better way to toss grenades given the limited buttons. On a relative basis, it's reasonable to expect way more content for $50.

That being said, it truly emulates CoD multi on a smaller scale, on the go; and to me (someone who thinks even the console CoDs' SP is awful) that's worth it.

That's fair.

I'm not saying ALL Vita fans are blind and just clutching to anything... but I wouldn't trust a Vita owner's opinion on many games at the moment. Sony fans are rather questionable at the best of time and if you throw a failing handheld in to that equation, well, let's just say most aren't as honest and articulate as you ;)

Persona 4: Golden?

Kyou made this but it seems appropriate here.

Anecdotal of course, but when I started Liberation on the Vita, the controls seemed terrible (keep in mind this was the first game I played on the Vita) but over time I got used to them (and the framerate) and started to like it. So I could totally believe a scenario where you never "get" the controls, and end up hating it.

Not to say the controls aren't bad, I haven't played it.

:lol

As Persona 4 gets closer I keep kicking myself for passing on the Persona 3 Portable for 50% off last week. What was I thinking :(

Shame on you. I bought it at the Persona sale before last, without any intention of buying a PSP or PSV.

Peeked into the Declassified thread
Neither Jeff or users could give this game a proper review so soon after release.

Hell give it 2 weeks at least, or a month and than you'll know if you bought yourself the call of duty portable game you hope it is.

If people are still playing online, and meeting one another for ad-hoc in a month, i'd say the game did alright. If not, well there's always next year.

Ryan Davis: The only proper reviewer on Giant Bomb

What are you talking about, they're all being reasonab-

I just read the review. Wow, I don't read GB but are all of their reviews so badly written? It was surprising to say the least. It's just a flow of anecdotal experiences with bad punctuation.

The fact that he thinks there's a "proper" call of duty makes it inevitable that he is actually comparing the game to it's console counterparts, and what it could've been, instead of reviewing the game for what it's.

Yeah Jeff, why did you just relate your experiences with the game while reviewing the game? You should have done something else like... list bullet points on the box! Or something. Also, this means that you never reviewed the game for what it is, even though your review is supposedly just a collection of anecdotes about what the game is.

Official threads for poorly received platform exclusive games are always a little scary. Things get worse when the platform is struggling. The Declassified OT certainly isn't the worst I've seen but it is a weird game to defend, especially when the defenders seem to be suggesting that the game is overpriced and mediocre, not terrible.

Uncharted:GA 3/5
Wipeout 3/5
Gravity Rush 3/5
AssCreed:L 3/5
CoD:C 1/5
no QLs since launch

i guess gb just really hatez the most desirable handheld ever

I think that's because they don't have very good capture equipment for it, other than just filming the screen. Nintendo gave them capture kits for the 3DS almost straight away hence why they are able to produce so many 3DS quick looks.

Jeff's review is totally fine. That said I am enjoying the game. It is silly to get all bothered about a review like this and then next week when they give P4G a glowing review everyone will be back on the train. CoD:D has a ton of problems, from a consumer report standpoint its pretty gross. I still think its the best FPS on a handheld I have played.

Yay! I'm so excited to read his opinion on it. :D

LOL! Appropriate indeed.

Hmm... I feel like I'm getting quite a bit out of mileage out of my Vita, but a lot of the stuff I've enjoyed are ports or things I could enjoy on other systems (ex: Sound Shapes on PS3 which I felt controlled better there due to the analog sticks, Virtue's Last Reward where I used the photo album app to "take notes" as opposed to trying to write on Vita, Rayman Origins which I'd played on PS3 the year before, etc.), or original stuff that I played but it ended up being rather mediocre or having some inconsistencies (ex: Gravity Rush, AC3:L, etc.).

I'm playing through Ys Celceta right now and I think it's an improvement on Seven, which I didn't like much, so... Vita's got something. Lumines was great too. Silent Hill: Book of Memories seems ok so far but I could probably think it's middling later on. Vita's a great device and I like the hardware a lot, but it suffers the same things that the PSP had: lots of ports, lots of the good stuff probably staying overseas, and the software library just doesn't seem to be there.

yeah or they just hate the vita. what is more likely?

exactly

If you go to a site only to see your opinion validated and then get outraged if it doesn't you are a bad person.
There should be a Metacritic-type site where people can decide what scores they get to see. 10/10s for all your favorite games man! Internets redeemed.

Giant Bomb is quickly becoming Public Enemy #1 among GAF's staunch Vita lovers.
I don't see that, I am a huge Vita Supporter and vastly prefer it over the 3DS but they have explained time and time again why they don't really do Vita Quicklooks or anything since they don't have a great way of capturing the footage.

I also feel that the Vita has no games preception is insane.

Again, pretty much the opposite of user reviews. Surprise surprise.

Neither Jeff or users could give this game a proper review so soon after release.

Then that's a great user review from a COD fan.

I personally bought it myself and there's no way this is a 1 star game. Played a few levels of single player, played survival or whatever until I died and multiplayer had me tracked at a little over 1:30.

Single player is just that, single player call of duty. Meh... But I'm meh about all the single player COD games.

Survival was strange and this was before I got the 1.1? patch. But the AI was weird, some guys would chase me down while others at times stood in doorways. Either way it was alright, nothing to write home to momma about and tell her how my panties got moist.

Multiplayer was pretty much what I bought the game for and after 10 mins or so of getting used to it I was killing people pretty regularly. Loading took a little bit of extra time, which seemed to somewhat been fixed by the patch. I ended up lvl 10 after that hour and a half and I had fun.

So stroke over Jeffs review of 1 star, but by no means is it a one star game.

That isn't anything Sony is referring to as, it's a widely known thing which may or may not be due to the game, but it mostly is the router's fault. Ignorant piece of something...

Wow at their comment section. Jesus Christ

Tiny maps complaint is amusing. With 8 players you need small maps. Looks fine to me from videos. If the maps were any bigger people would be complaining that you spend ages searching for the enemy.

Not much trying to it, his 1 star review is shit...but it's his opinion and I offered my differing opinion. It's cool because we've both played the game, unlike you.

I love listening to Jeff on the podcasts and quick looks and stuff. He's great. But I wouldn't even BEGIN to listen to his or Giantbomb's opinions on Vita games. From the first time I saw him using it at that live launch video they did, everyone on Giantbomb seemed COMPLETELY disinterested in the handheld, and I haven't seen any actual interest from them since then.

Has giant bomb ever given a vita game a good score? Seems like they dont care much for the vita at all honestly. Maybe Im wrong but from the comments section of the cod review the site seems to not like vita much.

The irrationality of some of the Vita militants makes me want to ditch mine more than the lack of games does. If shit games are just blindly accepted merely because they exist then the content will never improve.

Not many people have a Vita so I think the whole no games thing is appropriate for them. I don't understand why anyone who has a plus account and is even remotely interested wouldn't get a Vita though at this point.

Kind of how I feel about the WiiU lineup as well

'It's got Mario!' Great, but from what Brad was saying about the tilesets on the bombcast, it's Nintendo doing 'just good enough' which is NOT what proper Mario titles should be. They should be some of the best games of the year, not 'oh I guess I'll buy this because I got nothing else to play on the system.' Zombi U looks okay, but it's just not my kind of game.

All you're asking for is your opinion to be validated.

It's notoriously a pain in the ass to do video of the vita being played because there are so many factors to control, where you're sitting, how you're sitting, where the camera is, how the lighting is, what the exposure of the camera is... etc. Given the amount of pain in the ass work you have to do to get a video up of someone playing a video game, it just doesn't seem like it'd be worth it for them especially for the quality of the video they'd have up.

If Jeff wants to give CODBLOPS:D a single star, he reserves every right to have that judgement, but to act like a child and summarize their disappointment in the selection of software for a system as "they hate the system" is pretty crude and single minded.

Don't place them in the "they hate the Vita" camp, start placing yourself in the "they're giving low-scoring reviews for a system I spent money on and I'm upset about it" camp.

Slaughterking is joking.

I'm sure the guys at Giant Bomb appreciate your defense, sir.

When was I defending them?

If other people's opinion bother you so much aren't you just doing the exact same thing?

When Tom Chick gave Halo 4 1/5 stars, the reviews thread on GAF exploded. Did that make you want to sell your Xbox 360?

I love the Vita as a piece of hardware, but I have played fuck all on it since Gravity Rush. P4G and DJ Max Technika are the only 2 upcoming things I want, and it seems like Most Wanted got a good port so I may pick that up. But people defending the Vita shouldn't get mad at reviewers, they should get mad at Sony and developers for completely fucking up awareness and quality on nearly all software related to the system.

If the Vita was thriving, I would imagine, instead of defending a content starved Call of Duty game that is almost universally considered overpriced against poor reviews, the OT would be filled with posters calling Activision out on this obvious, almost deceptive, cash in.

Also, it's 50 dollars. The sheer ego of Activision on that one 'vita games are 40? yeah well .. our watered down port is 50. buy another game if you don't like it'

If the Vita or the handheld market in general had better options for FPS online games then sure, CoD would get panned by critics and gamers alike. The problem is that, despite being very overpriced and completely mediocre, it's still the best option for a portable FPS, so people bought the game and they are enjoying it for what it is.

Those above quotes are clearly battered wives syndrome.

Battered wives might have it better than Vita owners, though.
