watching that 39 minute video. holy crap at the arrival DLC i never played it seems bioware didn't ether.
Having seen the ending of Leviathan I imagine that would prepare you for even the original ending of the game. It's also very clear from Leviathan thatthere can never be a happy ending in the ME universe.
I told Brad he should play raw to understand the original state of the game, especially since DLC shouldn't affect GOTY considerations.
Which is a dumb concept on it's own. You spent ME1,ME2 and most of ME3 fixing EVERY SINGLE PROBLEM IN THE GALAXY.
I mean, quite literally.
And now at the end, it's "everything you did doesn't really matter, you are all fucked or you get transformed into weird green thing"

The podcast this week is going to be fantastic. Not only the ending discussion, but the GAF thread too. We all know a good part of the ME3 conversation is going to inevitably end up at "aren't those internet gamers so entitled!" and GAF looks like its just ready to blow... I can't wait
Brad, spoiler section this shit, do not dance around anything. You hear me Spoilermaker?
Aside from the fact that the ending just came out of nowhere, my biggest problem was it seemed like everything the kid was saying was just a massive contradiction.
I really hope they will just go all in about ME3 because trying to do a spoiler free version will probably lead to a meta discussion about the reactions and that will be insufferable.
Either save it for GotY or just do it.
I'm pretty disappointed that he didn't. I think it would be hard to understand just how disappointing the original ending was.
Leviathan spoiler:I was more referring to the Cthulhu like race that created the Reapers and could basically completely dominate and overtake the galaxy whenever they want to because they have godlike powers.

Because ME3 does not deserve to be any discussion for anything GotY related. Unless you're talking about Best Multiplayer maybe.
The best thing about ME3 was the Javik comics:

I'm interested in seeing how far into this Jeff will let them go on the podcast. He's always seemed adamantly opposed to the idea. Maybe that's partially a function of Brad not having finished though.
Brad, if you're reading this, please don't talk about ME3 on the podcast without first having youtubed the original ending. You'll cause a riot otherwise.

And our failed savior Marauder Shields.
I can't agree. It was always a desperate attempt at rationalizing the poor ending to me.

Oh christ, that's even worse.
LET ME DIE BIOWARE.
How does the theory not make sense in a fictional universewhere mind control is a prominent aspect of the story? You're expected to simply accept the universe-shattering options (two of which allow the Reapers to live) presented to you by the Catalyst, an entity that controls the Reapers, even though you've been shown repeatedly over the course of the series that the Reapers will worm your way into your head and control you if you allow them to. It's not exactly outrageous to infer that the Catalyst could have been a manifestation of the Reaper's control over Shepard.

I already expect Brad to play down the controversy and be all "it wasn't that bad". Any bets on the word "entitled" being used?
It's pretty sad to see how rapidly Brad went from 'it's not THAT bad' to the realization of exactly JUST HOW BAD the ending is, and the following onset of ME3 ending related depression.
It's pretty cool if you're a fan ofH.P. Lovecraft/Cosmic horror.
It's just non-sense at this point.
Without the fan reaction, the extended cut never gets made. Leviathan was probably written well after the game had gone gold. The whole "taking things out for DLC" argument doesn't really apply except for Javik. Bioware just did some work after the fact to try to patch up their horribly written game.
There was definitely some overreaction from parts of the community and I never expecting the ending to change, that was unfortunate and the worst part of it all was the extreme fans that went too far became the story and dominated most of the game press discussion of the whole thing.
While I imagine you're right that the writing, programming, and assets were all done long after the game went gold. There is no doubt in my mind that the information found in Leviathan is something they contemplated putting into the game. Considering everything else Leviathan should have been in the shipped product.
999 best 2010 game of 2012?
