Giant Bomb Thread The Third: #TeamBrad

Nothing tedious about Sleeping Dogs combat

And I'll go ahead and voice the dissension. It sucks what they did to Matt Rorie, but I found that guy incredibly annoying every time he showed up on Happy Hour.

That's like saying you don't want Giant Bomb to write reviews. Because, it would feel that way lol.

I do wish Alex had more of a presence on the site in a way, just because his reviews recently have seemed to vary wildly from what the crew talk about on the podcast. They've dumped on quite a few games he's reviewed favorably recently, like Hitman and WWE13.

the only boss that fucked me over was the gorilla robot. everyone else was doable.

G-g.....gorilla robot you say?

hey now, Ryan is very busy retweeting pizza puns, ordering games from Japan, and buying laserdiscs. If a review comes out 3 or 4 weeks late, that's good enough.

I thought Jeff also played Dishonored since he sounded like he knew what was up when Patrick was talking about it.

IIRC Brad only played the first couple hours, and Vinny kept saying he liked it but he was really bad at it and it felt like he was a "shitty assassin" and never came close to beating it.

Just finished binary domain. Besides Vanquish, there really hasn't been many shooters that I've had fun playing.

Game is pretty hilarious (ironically or unironically, not sure), and upgrading that assault rifle really does make you tear shit down fast.

the boss battles could be better... or your guy could have snappier movement controls, like a more responsive dodge and better melee attacks that can actually connect.

They felt like bosses designed for an action game.

Not sure if it's GOTY material, but it's quite dumb and fun.

Shame
Cain didn't come back at the end.

Someone didn't get the True Ending~!

Rorie's Dark Souls written piece and Quick Look were some of the best thing to ever come from Giant Bomb. They could really, really use him right now.
If their budget ever allows for another editor, I really hope they get Rorie. During the last 6/12 months of WM, that dude was killing himself producing content for Screened (he would aim for 1 major video or written piece per day) while also managing freelancers, the community etc. Dude is a content machine.

But I get the impression it's unlikely to happen.

I think any new Dark Souls stuff is going to be very friendly for the whole GB crew, heh.

I think they've actually, over time, done an admirable job covering Dark Souls considering none of them care to play it, sans Vinny. The Ryan playthrough was great, he was earnest and willing to give it a shot.

Binary Domain is such an unforgiving game in terms of getting that true ending though. At a certain point you're suddenly stuck with whatever squad mates you recently chose for pretty much the second half the game.

You almost have to concentrate on maxing out two squad mates in the beginning and then have the foresight to change to other characters right before the split.

Aka, I am still sad
that Cain disappeared. At least Big Bo came back from the dead 390486304689 times
.

Edit: ^^ the lighting and expression in that screengrab makes him look like Claymation Jeff.

I hope you're all happy. I'm going to go back and give Binary Domain another chance BECAUSE OF YOU.

Although, in its favor, I just found the option to switch the button prompts from the keyboard to 360 controller hidden in its config menu, so that will probably help a lot.

If you really didn't know:

Choose to configure BD from the launcher, then select Input Configuration. Pick 360 Controller from the Input Device dropdown, and underneath the picture the first dropdown is Input Display Icons. Pick 360 Controller.

Seems fine to me, what's your problem with it?

Really bad KBAM controls, doesn't seem like I can turn off mouse smoothing, no actual mouse controls in menus, voice recognition rarely works for me, some bad framerate drops on my Radeon 4890.

I should probably just play it with a controller, but I hate having to do that with shooters.

I had some frustration with the controls as well, but if you just remap a few things and stick with it, it all becomes second nature very quickly. At least, for me it did.

Go play it Alberto. Don't let that stop you.

I played with a PS3 controller emulating a 360 one. I can't recall bad mouse controls one way or another because how long ago I tried it.

I found the voice recognition on pc worthless but there's an option to press tab or something and choose from several pre-set responses. It kind of shows how shallow and binary the reactions are (in that domain).

I think GAF has over-hyped Binary Domain. The first half or so of the game is crazy and over the top, but I felt like the second half just became (for the most part) a generic shooter, and the wackiness from the first half was largely gone. I only bothered finishing it because I thought it was going to pick back up, but it largely didn't.

If I could get paid a living to do that I'd do the shit out of it as long as I could get away with it.

mk controls for bin domain is kinda bad. No character acceleration so your dude's movement is super janky.

It's also impossible to finish that mecha section (where cain hijack the AA robot thing) with mouse due to super low sensitivity during that part.

I played through all of Binary Domain with a mouse and didn't have any real problems with the controls. There certainly isn't anything impossible to finish.
