I remember the time I avoided listening to chunks of podcasts last year because I wanted to avoid potential spoilers for Catherine. Imagine my surprise when the game played out like I thought it would, and all of the things they discussed in those segments were things I already figured I knew. Good times, good times.

i enjoyed posting time stamps for people at the time.

Yes, the ole' double red herring.

It's funny that none of the games people were worried about spoiled this year had particularly crazy twists at the end*, but I do completely understand not wanting to know the particulars of those final few storybeats ahead of time.

*Except for when Clem turned out to be a robot.

Can we please not bring up all the crazy
soviet spy[s/poiler] twists at the end of TWD, please?

I couldn't believe that Kenny went to all the effort to build a cute, communist robot to steal all of Lee's blood. His whole Florida schtick really had me fooled.

stopped listening to bombcast 2012 podcasts as soon as they said they would do spoilers and started spoiling Walking Dead. I find this quite unproffesional actually since many other have been able to discuss 2012 without spoiling games.

Are there many spoilers in the end of year podcasts?
Will I ever be able to listen to them?

Do we have a list of what games are spoiled?

Listened to the GotY last night (my first podcast) and I was enraged by an off-hand Walked Dead spoiler by the younger new guy. I'm really trying to like him but he's not terribly interesting, now this. Blah!

Here, I'll quote myself from just a few hours ago:

Direct quote from 2:39 into the first GOTY podcast:

"We are going to be openly talking about games here. There's no safety, there's no rules. We're not gonna sit here and say 'we're going to talk about the ending of this,' we're just going to talk about the ending of this. And any game that came out in 2012 or prior, the whole history of games leading up to this moment is fair game for open, frank discussion."

I don't know how much more clear they could possibly be.

Be enraged at yourself for not paying attention, I guess.

They specifically say the GOTY podcasts have spoilers if you didn't want to hear them than you shouldn't have listened.

The GOTY casts are filled with spoilers. They say it at the beginning and it's been that way for the past few years. Getting spoiled by something in the podcast is no ones fault but your own.

Do what I did, stop the podcast, buy all the episodes and play them. Then continue the podcasts.

You'll thank me later. Don't miss out on a great game.

Ha! Exactly what I did. I hadn't played 4 and 5 yet, stopped on Day 2 and bought them both, finished them both (wow... what a ride) and then rejoined the GOTY fun for the rest of its run!

Then I bought myself a premium membership for Christmas and now I am tearing through Endurance Runs, Load the Last Saves and so much more.

That said wasn't said in their current podcast, which is the only one I listened to. Why not say that at the beginning of each podcast? In retrospect, perhaps I should have figured it was going to happen, but it was still annoying. It didn't even add to the discussion.

Because they don't need to say every five minutes their spoiler policy. Do you expect a recap of a story if you jump in halfway through a film?

So many bullshit reasons to moan about a total non-issue. You have nobody to blame but yourself.

Who said every 5 min? It's a simple courtesy they could begin each podcast with. I don't think that's unreasonable.

It's also reasonable to expect that if you're listening to one of their GOTY podcasts you've listened to the first one, where this is explicitly stated.

Plus every time throughout the discussions this year they've reiterated the policy when one of the duders tries to skirt around a story and they all go "fuck it, just say it"

I really disagree. I love GB, but I simply do not have time to consume all their content. With my busy life all I could fit in was the GotY discussion. Not everyone can be a hardcore consumer like yourself.

Again, a simple message at the beginning of each podcast is all I'm asking for.

I just realized: There's a genuine reason to ask whether we'll get a Bombcast tomorrow. Maybe Wednesday?

eh? It is New Years. Do you have a concept of what that means in the big wide world?

It means spending time with friends, and families. Not producing videogame podcasts.

Believe it or not there is more to life than videogames. Perhaps rich coming from the guy chilling in on New Years Eve but that is due to external influences outwith my control.

Just fyi coffee is hot, that floor might be wet, and don't wrap your baby in a plastic bag.

On the other hand, most game of the year content across websites don't include spoilers. I realize the podcasts are unique, but a simple 15 sec reminder is a simple courtesy. Obviously other people had the same issue.

I think it's kind of ridiculous that we're expected to skip over 10 hours of content simply because we haven't beaten every game released in 2012 that we were interested in.

I think something as simple as saying "Alright, *game* spoilers here." before they spoiled anything would have sufficed and would have taken a mere seconds.

Over 10 hours, how tedious do you think that would have got and how much do you think it would have ruined the flow of the Bombcast?

You get about 150 hours of (near enough) spoiler free Bombcast every year. Stop fucking whining that they put out 10 hours of worth with (explicitly stated) open spoiler discussion that you can choose to not listen to or shelve for a later date.

If you care that much, beat the story games you want to not be spoiled before the GOTY time. It's what I do. If you don't want to do that, tough, don't listen.

I'm not complaining. I have no need of a podcast this week.

What I was doing was marveling that for the first time ever, the question about whether there would be a podcast this Tuesday or not does not have a definite answer.

I don't think it's crazy to want them to re-state their spoiler warning at the start of each separate GOTY podcast, especially if it's your first year and you don't really follow the site or gaming sites in general.

He was saying they state spoilers ahoy before every spoiler.

I was, ironically, talking to those who were talking to PopcornMegaphone. Inception, XZibit, all those hilarious memes that refer to things happening to themselves, etc.

Edit: Wait a sec, I quoted you. Not sure why I would. Must've thought you were talking to PopcornMegaphone.

Honestly, throughout the whole 5 podcasts, they probably didn't actually mention too many spoilers. It really wouldn't have been that tough to just say "And for real at the end of *game* heads up spoilers, *x happens*.

It takes under a second, and invites people to enjoy the content they've already put the time into making.

It's not like they just make this stuff for themselves. They do it for their audience, and I'm sure they want people to listen to it. Something that simple would mean that more people could enjoy their content.

And dude,
If you care that much, beat the story games you want to not be spoiled before the GOTY time. It's what I do. If you don't want to do that, tough, don't listen.

Congrats on having unlimited disposable income. Not everyone can own every game they're interested in on launch day. It's not as simple as "You should of played the games then!" and you sound incredibly pompous when you say that.

I don't agree. Best to say any and all spoilers allowed up front and let those sensitive to spoilers take their own chances. Trying to catch every instance of spoilers with a warning is just setting themselves up for failure and it would definitely impact the flow of the conversation. I think an additional warning at the beginning of each podcast is reasonable but that should be enough.

I skipped through all discussions with Far Cry 3 cuz I didn't play it yet. If I can do it, you can too. It's a podcast, if you wanna avoid spoilers then listen to them later after you played the games if you're worried so much. The GB GOTY discussions aren't like a typical GOTY show. It's more like a deliberation that happens to be archived. Spoilers are part of the process so they can stress a specific moment or events in the game that grabbed them. Asking them to dance around spoilers for what they're doing makes zero sense.

Number stations and hummingbird mask back to back episodes were legendary this year.

Mismanages scant free time by not playing games you own and instead talking/listening to talking about them.

Cites adult life but displays disdain at taking responsibility for actions.

Overuses the word "content".

Battin' a thousand there, bub.

Popcorn, I'm sensitive enough to spoilers that I haven't touched any of the GOTY podcasts, and I'm telling you right now, you're being ridiculous about this.

Hahaha, the ending was adorable.

As always, I love listening to David Jaffe talk. He is always such a pleasure, and I added 30 Flights of Loving to my wishlist on steam to give it a chance. Kicking myself now for not buying it when it was a flash deal earlier.

Him and Rorie are easily the deepest Top Lists this year. A joy to read/listen to.

I wish they would talk about spoilers year round.

They talk spoilers one week the whole year and people still cry like spoiled children.

Drives me bonkers to have good discourse shot down constantly all year because omg spoilers.

Hey man, don't spoil the end of Super Mario Brothers. I haven't finished it yet!

If you click on any GOTY podcast, video or write up from any website and expect it to be 100% spoiler free, you're dumb.
Exactly why I skip most GOTY type podcasts during this time. I expect games to be discussed openly and I haven't had a job for a long time till recently and haven't had a chance to pick up a lot of games.

Yup people act like children when it comes to spoilers, especially with something called GOTY.
