While playing a previous game might give good context, that hardly matters for reviews (especially reboots). There are plenty of people who may play a reboot without playing the previous games.

The thing is, because he hasn't played the best Devil May Cry game, his opinion on what makes a good Devil May Cry game doesn't matter. If someone isn't a fan of the series I don't want them reviewing it.

I'm pretty sure Brad's played a lot of games over the years. He probably knows when he's enjoying one by this point in his life.

Nobody cares who you think would be best to review it.

Dahbomb is the only review you really need as a fan of the series. I didn't expect any journalist to pinpoint the things that a fan of the series really cares about so none of them bother me that much :p

A good game is a good game regardless of whether you have played the "best" one in the series or not. Your argument makes no sense and is willfully ignorant having seen it in a few threads now.

Except for the part that what makes a good Devil May Cry game to you does not matter because this is a reboot.

What I don't get from the complainers is what their desired outcome is. Ok, so let's say Brad is hereby unqualified to review DmC. What, then? What does he do? Does he not review the game and defy his boss? Does he rescind his review after it was published and publicly apologize? What the hell are you meaning to accomplish other than ignorantly lashing out in hopes that someone will appease you?

As someone who has never played a Devil May Cry game, I think it's weird to say the reboot is a fantastic reimagining of a franchise when you haven't played half of the series.

Don't read the review, there i just solved your problem. Your opinion is the only one that matters when it comes to making a game purchase. Buy the game and review it and I will tell you if I can trust a review from a DMC fanboy.

I'm sick of the DmC whiners. No one cares, okay? Jesus Christ could give the game 500 out of 10 and you people would still turn your noses up. Don't like it? Don't buy it.

It's just venting and Brd happens to be an outlet, they are witnessing the probable death of OG DMC and are going nuts.

Either approach towards looking at the game is valid. Brad is approaching it as a relative newcomer which is likely the perspective that some segment of the audience will be coming at it as well (at least if Capcom gets their way). If you are a series veteran you should probably look elsewhere for reviews.

I have no idea if any professional reviewer is into the franchise enough to provide that perspective.

I'm perfectly fine with just disregarding this and all his future reviews. I don't care what he does for his job, man's gotta pay the bills somehow I suppose.

Suddenly, I'm really rooting for DmC to sell like gangbusters.

Then you probably were never a fan of the series.

If Giant Bomb get Shane Satterfield then Patrick would never be criticized again.

If GB get Shane I would never listen to another bombcast again. I can't stand the cunt.

This drama surrounding the DmC reboot reminds me of all the horse shit about Max Payne 3 last year. Nice to see the immortal cycle of GB threads in full swing though. :/

I am a huge fan of the series. I haven't played this one yet, but it looks pretty good to me and the demo was alright outside of the busted scoring system (Which I have heard is rectified.) Have you played the full version enough to confidently say that anyone who likes it is objectively wrong in saying it is a good game?

If you're a fan of the series, can't like this new one. Dem's da rules, yo! That makes perfect sense, yes.

I look at DmC and I just see it as another take on the series. Its not like Capcom isnt known for doing this, like how many different versions of Mega Man have they done? Eight?

I guarantee you the vast, vast, VAST majority of "fans of the original series" aren't the hardcore SSS rank score attack freaks that have dominated the discussion pre-DmC's release. They aren't allowed to speak for "fans of the series." These games have sold over 10 million units.

Pretty score scoring is still busted unless I have missed something.

Megaman is dead homie, not the best comparison.

I think there's a sizable female fanbase who just love OG Dante. Who knows if it'll carry on to DmC.

It reminds me of the Fallout fans going nuts over Fallout 3. Until the day it was released and they were silenced by the huge number loving it. The OT went from "Fuck this game!", "Yeah! Let it bomb!" to "OMFG SO GOOD", "goty!" almost instantly.

Alot of fans don't like the aesthetics or the tone. Combat matters to some while the look matters to others.

Im just saying, when Capcom created these different versions, they were still pretty good games that a lot of fans eventually accepted. Classic fans moved on to X, some moved on to Legends, then there was Battle Network which was an entirely different genre, etc.

Devil May Cry fans should at least be happy that Capcom hasnt given up on the series like it has on Mega Man or Breath of Fire or Strider, etc.
