Giant Bombcast - | 05-01-2012 |

You can't deny the bombcasts rampant favoritism of Xbox versions of games and the system over the PS3. Even though many of the 360 versions of games are inferior compared to the PS3 or PC versions.

This just another tick on a long list of things. It was more like "of course you guys don't care about this thing."

Recently they've emphatically complained about the 360 interface, directly blamed Microsoft for messing up Telltale's digital distribution plans, talked about how much better PC versions of a lot of games look and run, and discussed how Kinnect almost never feels right when they're using it. It's not uncommon for them to complain about the Netflix app on the 360, too. How can people possibly still think that they're enveloped in "favoritism" for that console?

Not that anyone cares, but I agree with all of those complaints.

Don't worry, they never get into any kind of specifics on it because of Brad not having played it yet. All you hear on it at all is "It's even crazier than anything else in the game" and "it's a real conclusion to the story."
No specifics at all.

Yeah, because I'm sure the number of people you could approach on a random street and ask to identify Kratos/Sweet Tooth/Parappa are equal to the number of people that could identify Mario or Donkey Kong. Come on, seriously?

You're comparing characters that came out almost 30 years ago with no other competition to ones that came out 17 years ago when Nintendo was dominating the video game market.

You're right, that is a reason for Nintendo characters being more popular and recognizable than Sony ones to a wider audience. It also doesn't refute what they were saying.

This guy right here. He's the end all be all. Everyone listen to him because he's apparently the best that's ever been. God forbid people be new to a forum.

Haunted's pretty high up there yeah.

So that makes it okay to snub Sony all the time because they don't get the free versions of games for that console?

They talk about Sony stuff when it's worth talking about. eg. Going on about Journey for podcast after podcast, Jeff has been diligently playing Vita games and just gave MK for the Vita 5 stars, etc. They said in this podcast that the 360 version was the worst version of the Walking Dead.

I think you are being way oversensitive about this.

I think they found the concept interesting, but Sony's available roster of first party characters uninteresting. (They seemed to be pretty familiar with how Smash Bros worked, too). It's also a "me too" game. How exciting could it be?

As an aside: For most of the PS1 and PS2, PlayStation was utterly defined by third party exclusives. Now that most of them have gone multi-platform, the actual first party characters they have to choose from are not that compelling.

IMO, The ideal PlayStation fighting game would have: PS1 Lara Croft, PS1 Cloud Strife, Dante, Chris Redfield, Paul from Tekken, the guy from GTA3, the chick from Ridge Racer, Crash Bandicoot, etc :) Modern Sony is so boring in comparison to its de facto heroes from back in the day. :P

Only Parappa makes me excited :P

Who cares about fairness of comparison? For the purposes of a fan-powered videogame the only thing that matters is the actual recognition.

So you'd rather we wait till the release date when we can buy a PS3 copy before we start reviewing the game than playing what we get early so we can have a review on time?

The 360 is also eighteen million times* easier to work with in a production environment involving multiple consoles, for reasons I've posted over and over ad nauseam. Sorry this seems to bother you so much.

*exact figure

I do appreciate Jeff playing the Vita and whatnot. Got a little irked when they mentioned the Vita a podcast or two ago and Patrick uttered "remember that thing?!" Jeff and Vinny seem to be the most willing to try out different video games. Jeff usually plays all the MMO's and goofy stuff that the others wouldn't touch (Skylanders, Persona 4, CoD's that come out, I think he played Journey first not 100% sure) , and Vinny plays everything.

Well that comment reflects the honest possibility that the Vita is not exactly taking over the world right now.

Honestly, your perspective seems to be from someone particularly invested in the world of Sony consoles. :P as a multiplatform gamer, I would never think to get irked from something like that :P

I have all the systems currently out but the 360 has been unplugged for months and the Wii gets turned on for Xenoblade Chronicles.

So what is it that Brad does all day? He records a Quick Look for half an hour, and then what? Huh??

he spends the rest of the time plugging the ps3 into the capture gear since its SOOOOOO HAARRRRD!

but then by the end of the day he is super sleepy after all that work and goes home before recording a another quick look.

Maybe thats why brad is always sleepy on the podcast. He spent his morning plugging in those heavy ps3 cables.

Also I would still like to know if the guys get invited to the god of war / Playstation all stars event or not.

It makes me sad that whenever I see giant bomb guys posting here it's to respond to some troll. I hope they know that the rest of us appreciate them.

That's not my fault that is who Sony has to work with. I'm not the one making ridiculous, unfounded claims here.

Also I would still like to know if the guys get invited to the god of war / Playstation all stars event or not.
I doubt it, since they've not said anything thus far on the matter. Perhaps I'm wrong, though!

You've been missing out on The Witcher 2, Fez, and Trials then.

Honestly you sound just as biased as you're accusing the GB guys of being. :P

Oh shit is it 2006 again? If I hadn't picked a side back then, do I have to now? I FEEL SO UNPREPARED FOR THIS FIGHT.

Cell processor for life?

I hope hope hope TNT next week is Minecraft on xbox instead of Starhawk just to read the reactions :P I'm all for ignoring starhawk personally, until that studio puts out a new War of the Monsters they dead to me

In the mean time the only bias on this podcast is an anti-eastern european bias! Where is Dave with the Risen 2 quicklook and podcast talk? Answer me that

Edit: scratch that, War of the Monsters TNT please!

We're not talking about "people you could approach on a random street." People who have an interest in this game/will buy this game are, yes, you guessed it, PlayStation owners. They know the characters.

A game that can draw from almost all of the PlayStation's history, made by a team with the credentials SuperBot has (including several high level competitive Street Fighter players), that people are reporting is lots of fun to play and has controls that are really tight, is something I'm extremely interested in. As are many, judging by the size of the Battle Royale thread.

Haunteds a pretty cool guy. Your mistake wasn't so much being new here as much as it was just being ridiculous.

Rudds is Brad
patrickklepic is Patrick
MonsterDunk is Jeff
TacoMaster or BurritoHomie or something Mexican food related is Ryan
I forget Vinny's

I really should have let someone else who knows better, answer your post.

BurritoHomie is a pretty rad handle

Really?
How many people do you think have purchased a PS3 and know what Parappa is? It has been 10 years since it had a release on a console, and not everyone buys something just because it's on a console they own.

Do you think many people outside of Japan knew who Marth was before SSBM? I would be curious to know what percentage of people that purchased Melee knew who the Ice Climbers were or what percentage of people that bought Brawl knew who Pit was. I'm not saying that as some kind of negative against them, but it's just the case. If you're not out there constantly, people aren't likely to know you. Sweet Tooth was in just as bad a place until they released the recent Twisted Metal, but how much of an impact did that realistically have in reaching people unfamiliar with the franchise?

You addressed Patrick's comment, and I'm very much inclined to agree with him. Just because people who post in a thread on GAF about a game they are interested in doesn't equate to, "Well, that settles it once and for all. People know who these characters are!" There are obviously more and more people making their way into the hobby of playing games, and I think it highly unlikely that the majority of people that own a PS3 know who many of these characters are. I don't think they have the same kind of exposure, recognizable factor, or resonate with owners of Sony consoles that you seem to believe they have.

Is this directed at me? I didn't say anything at all regarding whether it would be of high quality, play well, or be something you're personally interested in, so I'm unsure as to if this was meant for me.

I'm familiar with every single character I've seen in the screenshots, I enjoy the smash brothers games, but I'm personally disinterested in it. I own a PS3, I use it regularly, and I just don't care. That's not why I'm backing patrick's statement, but yeah.
