GiantBomb: Titanfall Quick Look is Live

I expect that level of slowdown is not very common, hence the lack of reporting by others. That there's any at all isn't really good enough for what this game is aiming for.

Still not sure if I'm getting this. Will wait a few days after launch to see how people respond to it.

Not sure why anyone would be surprised , I tried the Beta on both PC and X1 to help aid my decision on what platform to buy on. Now it may have been because I played on X1 after a ton of hours on the PC, but the frame drops and tearing were horrible.

The parkouring is JUST enough to make the game feel different from COD, but man, the way it looks, flows, the UI, this shit is as COD as a cod killer can possibly get.

Yeah, recorded that earlier on my XBO:

Giant Bomb wasn't exaggerating with the single digit fps. The game definitely needs some polish. (It's still awesome, tons of fun, everybody should buy it, yadada)

I've seen nothing like that in 5 hours of play today.

I have seen some screen tearing but nothing like the slow down down there.

is there any credibility left in gaming reviews?

to be fair, reviewers don't review games based off technical bits and boops. they review them based off personal enjoyment.

And remember that for the past few years, the games they've been reviewing on last gen consoles were struggling to keep 30fps (ubisoft didnt give a fuck on consoles lol), so a few framerate drops wouldn't bother many.

That's gotta be the XBO version, right? My PC version plays great.

FPS drops and screen tearing are more apparent?

I think you'd be surprised how many people don't notice frame drops. I'm not saying I can't see them or screen tearing, and I think they're just as noticeable as a game running at 720p vs a game running at 1080p.

I think anybody should be able to recognize a frame rate drop from 60 fps down to the teens. It's possible that some reviewers didn't spend enough time with the game or shrugged off the issues as something that would be fixed prior to release (obviously not the case).

What's going on with the XBO version? Damn. I'm on PC, no problems for now, servers are pretty good even when I used a Korean VPN to play it yesterday. I'm happy with it, although I agree that it wants a better PC than it should and 3GB VRAM for textures higher than "High" is just plain fucking insane. Optimize that please.

Thats awfull. I wonder how GB noticed it and the other journos missed that.

I'll admit that when I'm super hyped about something, I may overlook some negative details, and vice versa. It's human nature. Then again I'm not a game journalist, so my biases don't influence people's buying habits.

did the giantbomb guy just say he's pretty much done after 20 hours

edit: this map looks a lot more visually appealing than the 2 maps I played in beta

To be honest, I have had some of those issues, but nothing to that extent. I wonder what could be causing that to happen to them like that?

Yeah, aside from anything else Jeff doesn't sound particularly blown away. Will be curious to see his review I guess.
He already said as long as the servers are not totally jacked the game will most likely be 4 stars. He's weirs. Will review a game a good score but then when he talks about it he talks like the game is just Ok. He'll he gave gta5 5 stars and I think he hates the game now.

Huh, I didn't know this game had load times. From the initial reveal video I figured that the matchmaking and map loading was seamlessly done in the background while you waited in your ship, preparing for the jump. Then your ship would jump once the map was loaded and when the game was fully ready you'd exit your craft on to the ground below.

I believe he said GTA Online's general shittiness would've knocked the score a bit.

Yeah, that's classic Jeff. He's become quite the jaded gamer and definitely knows what he likes and doesn't like. If you generally agree with him he's very useful for making game purchases.

Well it's over. I'll add the archive link to the OP when it's up on the site.

As for the game, it certainly looks fun but I'm not sure it's for me. I'll probably still get it on 360 to play with friends, but I doubt I'll bother with it on X1.

So it sounds like the game is worth $60 (for PC & XB1 owners) but not $500 for people looking to buy a system for it (and what MS was hoping for). Would be pretty wild if the 360 version outsells the XB1 version though.

Nothing beats people rushing in to say they haven't experienced anything like that.

Reminds me of BF4 issue deniers. ;)

For what it's worth, I actually didn't have any real problems with BF4 but I would never suggest it wasn't completely broken for a huge number of players.

Yeah, they didn't sound particularly enthused by the game or of it chances of selling people the X1. I think it'll sell moderately well on X1 but the PC and 360 is where the majority of sales will be.

I don't see any other possibility, just by pure install base numbers

watching this and knowing my reservations for shooters before playing the beta, the fact I only paid like 38 bucks for the pc version seems about right for me

I haven't even started playing it today and I'm already torn between playing it and literally anything else coming out today/that I have in my backlog

Hooray for next gen!

I have to say, I was surprised at how dower Jeff Gerstmann's outlook was on Titanfall. Not only was he getting bored already, but he didn't even think it stood a strong chance of moving a lot of Xbox Ones (Though they did add the caveat about the number of people that would be getting the game for free). I don't think Titanfall looks like anything special, but even I think that based on advertising momentum alone it's going to make a dent.

Yeah its pretty obvious now that this game was not ready and has been rushed out the door. The thing that got me with that slowdown gif, other than the awful tearing, was the terrible ceiling textures.

He was NEVER really big on any of the Call of Duty games.
I'm not surprised in his disinterest.

His entire CoD4 & MW2 reviews can be summed up as "it's a 4 hour fps".

Watching now, haven't seen any major issues outside some of the most shocking tearing I've ever seen in a game.

Not even Bioshock was as bad. Goddamn.

I hope the tearing gets fixed later or at least reduced. I remember that I couldn't play Serious Sam on the first Xbox because of the tearing issue. It was unplayable in the "WTF is going on here? I can't believe they released this to retail!" sense of the word. In some games, it isn't that bad though. But I'm one of those that are sensitive to it and I'd rather play with a slower frame rate than have tearing.

What?

Jeff has been a long time CoD fan; specifically the multiplayer. He only recently started to take interest in Battlefield 4 over Ghosts. I really think you're mischaracterizing him.

Edit: Yeah, looking back at his reviews, he lavished praise on CoD. (With the exception of Ghosts, which still got 3/5 despite his complaints.) The bylines alone make that clear. http://www.giantbomb.com/reviews/?letter=C You're also totally wrong about his MW2 review which was a 5/5, and CoD4 which he gave 9/10.
