Giantbomb's Endurance Run: The Third: Chrono Trigger

Forgot how cool Magus' Lair was. Was a bit close in that Slash fight. Ryan was quite reluctant in using Mid-tonics even tho he had plenty. Triple Raid would've smoked that guy fairly quickly. Wish they tried it. Can't wait to see the other boss fights tomorrow.

Got the first ending in the DS version. I even went through the Lost Sanctum quests.

Game is still amazing on the DS.

Whoever designed the Lost Sanctum should be dragged out onto a mountain and forced to push a stone up the mountain every day for all eternity. The Lost Sanctum; such a terribly-designed sidequest.

I just realized next episode:
Magus is probably going to wipe the floor with them if Ryan isn't at the top of his game. Next episode might be a hour of them trying to beat Magus.

that'll be fun. when the battles are too easy, not as fun to watch. huhu

They've finally realised that the worst thing you can do in a let's play is to not talk. Thank God, this Endurance Run just got great. I don't care if the jokes are corny or stupid, dammit.

Pretty great episode! :)

I always remembered CT as a really hard game. I think I may have just been under-leved my first time playing but all the multipart bosses gave me trouble.

i never had trouble when i played it as a kid. as long you use the combo attacks, you get by pretty quickly. Ryan was sticking to single attacks earlier so the batles took way longer. they also don't have Marle in their party and her healing magic also makes the game way easier.

I would like to have seen Square Enix release the Lost Sanctum stuff as a separate game calling it 'Chrono Trigger 2'... If only for the internet rage that would have followed once people had to play through that dross.

Hard? I'd almost qualify CT as an entry-level RPG.

*shrugs* Again, I think I was never leveled properly. I remember fighting the giant on the mountain with huge hands taking me 5-6 tries. If you weren't strong enough strategy was huge because of how boss parts worked together. The last time I played it I just blazed through it so I'm not sure what was so hard when I played it the first time.

I still remember to this day playing the game back in 1995(I was in 4th grade at the time) trying to figure out how to beat Masa/Mune. I didn't know the Slash trick to neutralize his power up and I'd get completely destroyed. I got fed up and just leveled up until I got Ice Strike and blew him away quickly.

Did you run away from too many fights first time around?
When I was younger, I always made this mistake. Mostly in CT and FFVII. Bit me in the ass later lol.

I think I just didn't ever grind. I know the game wasn't grind heavy but you need to fgiht extra battles. I just ran through the game and since you can see and avoid the fights I think I just avoided to many to speed things up.

You will never be under-leveled if you fight everything in your path; I don't consider that grinding. You should only avoid enemies if you are revisiting an area you passed through a long time ago or if you are running low on resources.

wish that unfamiliar games would be the norm for endurance runs

be way cooler to see a great game you never played instead of something that's often hailed for whatever

Indeed, I never grinded in CT. Just fought everything in my path. You tend to backtrack often cuz of the nature of the game but there's really no need to grind.

Visual novels and PW in particular are considered "un-LP-able" by a lot of people due to how they work... but now that I think about it, GB might be the ones who could do it (at least Vinny could).

If there was a Phoenix Wright endurance run I think the bitching in the comments would break the internet. People already bitch about them forgetting or not paying attention to things in Chrono Trigger which can lead to them dying against an enemy once or twice until they figure it out. Think about how much worse it would be when the entire game is made up of paying attention and remembering things.

F those people. I enjoy their jokes and reactions over playing the game 100% correctly. Maybe Vinny and whoever can do it live like with Phantasmagoria and get help on the fly. Less bitching from the crowd.

Ryan seems to have gotten a lot more confident with the controls/menu management, making this whole endeavour MUCH more watchable.

Edit: Ryan's reaction to Uzzi punch :lol

Did they fight
Magus
yet? I think that's when I'm going to jump back in.

Yep. It's usually the first or second RPG I recommend to people if they want to get into the genre. Part of it is its wonderful presentation, but also that the game implicitly teaches you as you move through the game (much like Mega Man X did).
