Giantbomb's Endurance Run: The Third: Chrono Trigger

You literally cannot leave the dark ages (where they were at) without FLYING the fucking 2pach. They CANNOT leave that island without riding in their time machine.

Now think about what you just said again.

Right, but they went to the end of time with all the time gates there. When I see all those time gates, the first thing I would think to do is use the gates. How do you even travel through time using that thing? Is there a button you press?

Yes, it told that to them the first time they used it. They've pressed that button. And I'm aware they went to the end of time using the time gates, but to GET to a time gate, they had to fly in their damn time machine. I get that you're defending them because you haven't played it or whatever and you're following their logic watching the show, but if you were playing the game you would see how PAINFULLY obvious this stuff is. I don't even know you, but I know you're not stupid enough to fail this badly at one of the easiest JRPGs of all time. None of the things they've ever been remotely stuck on have been obtuse in the least, and this is no different.

Yes they've used the ship to time travel several times already. They literally forgot how to do it.

I beat Chrono Trigger a long time ago, so I don't remember exactly what to do. I'm not trying to defend them that much, I just don't get why THIS is the thing that so many people off when it's not nearly as stupid as many other things they've done. Maybe I just suck at games, though in general, I find JRPGs to be extremely easy, especially turn-based ones.

Does it still feel like a violation to you?

Oh. My. God. I can't believe this. They just got a fucking flying time machine and they start using gates? Holy shit.

They should never do Endurance Runs of classic games ever again. This wasn't worth it. I wanted to just lay back and go with it but this is just straight up dumb.
The only payoff is if they finally realize how stupid they are if they use the damn thing again and end up somehow pressing Y.

I spent minutes on this dammit and I am going to post it when things get too fucking serious around here.

Oh wow they're using time gates again.

They have to be trolling.

I was wondering what the bitching was about until I got to the point where they forgot that the time ship could... travel through time. lol

Man, this has to be one of the bigger screw-ups I've seen. They've already used the time machine to get to 12,000BC, it was the only method of continuing the story after the time portals got locked out. And they forgot?

I only hope they realize they're doing this wrong by next episode when
they have to go all the way back to Death Peak.
Though there's an equal chance if that happens they will have already forgotten where they put it.

"I want to go to the right time period first."
"Oh, so you won't forget?"
"Yeah."

You do realize that he only put a few hours into Skyrim, right? Not enough time to put it on his list?

I don't particularly care why; I'm not here to judge the inclusion or exclusion either way. I'm stating it as an example of what he seems to value in a gaming experience. You can look at the entirety of the list - his decisions were mostly made by how "entertaining" the experience was. Which is a totally valid way to approach things, and one that I'm identifying with more and more as I get older, but not the type of mindset that's going to cause one to gravitate towards JRPGs.

While I mostly agree with you, mentioning his omission of Skyrim just devalues your point, though. It's very much the sort of game a content tourist would enjoy.

Content tourist or not, there's really no reason for him not to use the super obvious flying time machine, or is there much reason to forget that IT CAN TRAVEL THROUGH TIME AND FLY.

You don't need to be Dr. Videogames to figure this shit out. It's common sense.

My favorite part of this episode wasn't that they forgot about their Time Machine. It was that I was pretty sure they knew they were getting another character, and in fact Batrick had mentioned on formspring that he remembered the Bagus stuff, and that they were really just saving their magic tabs for him.

Then they blow them all on fucking Bucca about five minutes earlier, after sitting on them for like ten hours! Hahaha.

They should never do Endurance Runs of classic games ever again. This wasn't worth it.

... Holy crap. You realize you don't have to watch, right? But still you think they should just never do ERs of classic games ever again? Why, what will the terrible repercussions be? You not watching while the rest of us have a good time?

Guys, have the past two episodes been good? Seems like they got lucky and beat the Golem Twins in the episode before.

Am I going to become frustrated by laugh really hard while watching the most recent one?

...sounds like I made the right decision to bail out early.

Vinny is editing these videos right? Has he played Chrono Trigger before? Either way I wonder how he feels about some of their decisions.

I think at this point, Patrick is letting Ryan do all kinds of retarded shit for personal amusement.

Why do you guys have any expectations at this point. Either watch it and laugh at the cavalcade of stupidity or don't.

Why do you care if I'm bitching? You can either read it, or don't.

I dunno, I've been tuning into each new episode looking forward to how they will mess up next for a while now and they definitely haven't disappointed. Forgetting the flying time machine you just got should go down in endurance run history. Vinny casting Bufu doesn't compare. I thought they were going to realize their mistake when they went to the dome that popped up the rename 2poch screen, but nope. I hope they eventually figure it out on their own during the playthrough for a better reaction than if someone clues them in on it.

I've been enjoying this endurance run for the most part so far and it's gotten me interested in watching their older ERs since I haven't seen them yet. Would you guys have a suggestion for which one to watch? If they're all worth watching, which one is the most entertaining?

Persona 4 - Jeff and Vinny
Deadly Premonition - Brad and Ryan
Deadly Premonition - Jeff and Vinny

I think those are the only other ERs, but please correct me if I'm mistaken.

Persona 4 continues to be the one and only true ER.

Start with persona 4 and then do deadly premonition jeff and vinny. Didn't really find the brad and ryan er entertaining at all.

If you ever get mad at Brad for destroying crates or holding on till the meter runs out: that ER is your remedy. Discover the sadist in you.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll give the P4 ER a watch first then.

Anyway, back to CTtalk. I can't wait to see how angry they'll get when they finally realize they could have been using 2poch to travel through time and fly around.

Persona 4, still the best thing ever to come out of giant bomb

I found Persona 4 to be extremely boring. So far, it's DP Brad/Ryan as my favorite, then CT, then DP Jeff/Vinny, then Persona 4. I guess Jeff just gets on my nerves most of the time. With that said, Ryan is truly terrible at every game I've seen him demo. It's pretty amazing that he does this for a living.

The latest episode is hilarious. Torturing themselves with walking through the wastelands after getting a goddamn flying time machine...I'm starting to think they're just fucking with people.

Note that I didn't finish either of the Jeff runs, but I just couldn't bare to do it. If they pick up, then great, but after the first few persona videos, I saw no reason to continue.

persona 4 er remains the greatest thing gb has ever produced

charlie, listen to me.

kill the kid, torch the house, we gotta get outta here.
