I'm almost tearing up thinking about it now. lolSaving Lucca's mom and then going to see her after the event and see her walk out of the chair is just a beautiful moment.
Yeah, I felt the same way. When I played CT or really any game like it, the second I learned a new ability I couldn't wait to try it out and see what it did. My curiosity would just be way too strong, I'd have to use it in the next battle after I learned it.The craziest thing about how they play is that they get new abilities and don't try them out. I can't imagine not trying every single attack in a jrpg no matter how dumb its name is.
Especially considering how dumb the name is, and when it was released.
If you keep the Core alive the whole time, then Retinite's defense won't be raised when you attack it. Use a spell that will heal the core (like Lightning, Fire) occasionally to win the battle faster. It'll run away when it's alone. Thus, do not destroy the core first!
Confuse has to be the worst name/worst description of an RPG skill outside of Final Fantasy Tactics.
In the DS version it was renamed "Frenzy"
Sort of relevant, but i've been playing through Chrono Trigger on and off for a few months, and i've just now finished pulling myself through. Someone tell me the best is yet to come? The fiendlord's keep, and am about to fight MagusI guess i'm only roughly halfway through the game, but I feel a bit worn out.
Not sure why Confuse is such a big deal, but the simple fact is Crono doesn't even have any status effect techs (which is usually true for most traditional RPG main character, because they tend to be offensive-minded), so logic dictates that Confuse isn't really what the name may suggest. We can all agree that it's a badly translated ability, however, for anyone that is competent in the genre and actually reads the description, it isn't hard to figure it out. Unfortunately, all evidences show that Ryan is neither. So let's not beat a dead horse shall we?![]()
I rarely used Confused too.I can't blame them for not knowing about Confuse, I never knew about that either as a kid. Really really terrible spell name. The game is still easy without it though, they just need to start thinking things through instead of beating their heads against the wall. Why was Brog casting Water 2 every single turn even as he's dying and hardly anyone is attacking? That doesn't make any sense, but they never even stopped to think about it.
Yea, they were food-related originally. US changed them to rock band peeps which was clever, imo.Aren't Ozzie, Flea, and Slash named after condiments in the Japanese version? I think it's Soy Sauce, Vinegar, and Mayonnaise, or something like that?
:O:O:ODouble Post!

EDIT: CONFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSE! :lol
Or you could like...try it? It's not like you have to sell your soul. Use the 12mp against a rolypoly. And I don't think logic is their strong suit.Logic dictates that a spell named Confuse and says "hits enemy with confuse" does something other than confuse the enemy?
Confuse sucks.I rarely used Confused too.
Yeah, I was hoping they'd change the equipment, not the characters.Patrick: We should use some of our weaker characters.
Ryan: OK
Patrick: Give them the nice equipment our current party uses.
Ryan: Nah.
*wipes*
Ryan: Let's not use those guys.
Logic dictates that a spell named Confuse and says "hits enemy with confuse" does something other than confuse the enemy? Now you're just being silly.
Yeah, I was hoping they'd change the equipment, not the characters.
It's a bloated MP attack on a single target which doesn't net much more then a critical after gaining that much TP. There's way better options.Confuse is Brono's second best personal attack next to Lumi. Strap on a Rainbow and use Confuse. You guys are nuts.
Gold Stud + Confuse + Luminaire: Black Omen Easy ModoIt's a bloated MP attack on a single target which doesn't net much more then a critical after gaining that much TP. There's way better options.
Frenzy Band + Haste Helm + Dual Techs would clean up 10x faster. And not just on BO.They missed on the fucking Flea Vest because of their ignoring of other characters.
Gold Stud + Confuse + Luminaire: Black Omen Easy Modo

If there's one thing i think would make ER threads (and perhaps a new ER itself) more interesting is if they play a game that not a lot of people have played.
Since CT is such a classic, there's so many people saying "they should've done this" or "they missed that". A lot of those issues go away with a lesser known or newer game.
As someone that's not finished Chrono Trigger (...yeah, yeah I know) how far roughly are these guys through the game?
That complaint is expecting a little much.
1) How would they know beforehand Ozzie, Slash and Flea had ACTUAL items.
2) When they got crushed by them they obviously weren't going to switch out to lesser used characters.
The first time I played the game I never used Ayla. I thought she was useless because you never got new weapons for her.
I just stuck to my fave 3 or 4 characters the whole game. Crono, Robo and Marle/Frog.
I killed Magus too.
In new game plus is when I tried all the "alternate" dialogue choices, and went exploring for hidden items and did side quests and stuff. Then much later looked at gaming mags for secrets and then even later FAQs.
People have some really high expectations for these guys when it's pretty much their first time playing the game and the last JRPG either of them probably played was FFX. If you want to criticize them for stupid mistakes that's fine, but some of this specific stuff is kinda ridiculous.
Unfortunately neither of them seem to be big JRPG players. For a lot of us, given the volume of these games we play it's an obvious hint. In their case, it simply wasn't.
Today was a great episode.
Why? Because they played like normal human beings playing through a video game.
