Girlfriend Reviews - Redditor on Last of Us 2 subreddit sent death threats to himself and blamed us.

There is a lot of hate but also a lot of love for the game. It's still selling well and it has one of the highest completion rates of any single player game.

GF Reviews made two videos on TLOU2 last year, both positive and have seen their fanbase revolt against them simply for liking a video game. It's gotten to a point where they consistently get death threats and are constantly harrassed by the Last of Us 2 subreddit.
🤦‍♂️ I wish that did not happen.
My Thoughts? I did not 'get' the last of us 2. I thought their 'Understanding the Last of us Part 2' video was excellent and helped me finally understand what Druckman was trying to do with the story. I still dont like the story, I do not care for Abby, and I have grown to dislike even the gameplay since last year. However, this kind of harassment is exactly what we hate about cancel culture. People are allowed to like or dislike TLOU2. It's not the worst game in the world. As someone who has grown to dislike this game, I hate that these are the kind of nutjobs I am aligning myself with. And no, as they pointed out, it's not just one nutjob. The entire subreddit including the mods on that subreddit are that hostile.
Yup, this is the dark part of gaming culture. It pressures people into adopting "the right" opinion, even if the opinion is actually "right" it does not excuse any kind of harassment (actual harassment), and let's not pretend it never turned ugly before.

Also, I like some parts of the game a lot, the gameplay, etc. is just "right". That being said, the whole portion with the Trans kid seems tacked on, the idea that Abbie (or anyone who is not part of the seraphies) has any kind of comment, or even basic questions, about some kid deciding that he/she (I can't remember the direction of the change, even tho I am in the middle of replaying the game) decides to transition is kind of strange. I don't like the flashbacks, or most of the Abbie story arc (there is no progression, so I guess it's not really an arc), they could have cut out Abbie's part completely and it would have made no difference to the conclusion of the story, she just goes around taking way too much risk for no good reason, the whole time you play as her feels like levels in an old game.

I feel even your change of heart in regards to the game (especially the gameplay) is at least in part due to a desire for conformity, there is so much aggressive pressure from righteous people against the game that I see people hate the game or at least saying they do hate it just to fit in.

Anyway, it's still a great game and the backlash some people engage into feels preachy, and goes way too far in the nature of what it is, the story is not as good as the story in the first game, Drunkman is an ideologue, get over it.

to answer your question every online community is an echo chamber to an extent, it's just a matter of scale. So obviously, there is nothing wrong with such subreddits existing.
Anyone should be just as free to join as to take the piss at opinions presented there, it's basic free speech.
Isn't free speech something that only applies to government censorship, not private websites? Lots of people seem to get that wrong.

Hahahaaha!

I'm not sure what's worse. Reddit and community still turning on them, or the guy faking suicide threats.

For now, I'll consider them equal. 100/100 on the scale of dumb assatry.

Tip to TV channels losing ratings to people streaming or focused on social media: Tell your writers to make shows as moronic as people on twitter and reddit and you'll have a hit.

Dude, you are fat and also has shitty beard.
Are you a beta too?
Even though his behavior is silly and I don't like it, that's no reason to get on the same level and attack him personally. You won't achieve a rethink with that either, you'll just reinforce him in his attitude. Even though I have nothing to do with it, I ask you to delete this again so we don't end up on the same cheap level as those the video is about.

This thread escalated quickly.

Why does every thread have to turn into polarizing sides hating each other with such a force that moderators have to work extra shifts on the weekends.
I mean when one side is full of toxic shitheads, it tends to generate a reaction from people who aren’t. Thus the existence of the video that this thread is about.

As somebody who hates TLOU2 with a passion - it's clear that TLOU2 apologists (such as yourself) ignore the valid criticism against the game. The argument of, "I don't get why people hate this game," just shows you haven't taken the time to listen to the other side of the debate. Which is fine, if you wish to be ignorant. The whole strawman of, "Oh they just hate it because Abby has muscles and Ellie is gay!!!!", is tired at this point. Please do your research.
There are many people who keep coming back to the Abby is muscled ALL THE TIME IN EVERY SINGLE THREAD even those barely related to the game, they are the most vocals.

All criticism that goes beyond a couple of story point (yes I think the story is the weakest part of this game) is people looking for confirmation, this is completely empty non sense coming from a vengeful bunch who cannot see beyond their own politics.

Don't be so attached to story characters, we all clapped when they killed their characters in Game of Thrones, when Aerith died in FF VII, etc. Joel can be a story prop as well.

That being said, no video game should ever generate death threats. I have no ill will towards anybody who enjoyed the game (more power to you), I just personally won't be buying another Naughty Dog game. That's as far as it should go.
You go around telling people they are "ignorant" for disagreeing with you, while you complain that they did not listen to the other side of the debate... This is certainly not helping the "debate" In fact it should not be framed as a debate, it should be framed as a discussion where people try to understand those they disagree with, all the better if they agree in the end, but the point should to understand first. Going around throwing empty insults instead of ideas, even with the statement that there should be no death threats over video games, will make those who send the death threats feel validated when they see you call others ignorant for not agreeing with you over some aspect of an entertainment product.

Yup. And he unironically links to Jesse Lee Peterson. Not a good look.
Why? You don't like the way he speaks? Too black? Not part of the woke church?
The biggest problem with TLoU2 as that it sparked a group of people really "dedicated" to hate it at all costs. I haven't seen that before with other game. There are fans and fanatics, but I hadn't seen this kind of hate and disproval of a game and their developers. It's like those people don't realize the game is fiction and the characters don't exists, and that the creator is the one in charge of making whatever decisions they want. Those people really have felt entitled to think they are able to discriminate, hate, threaten, etc to whoever likes the game and/or its story and characters.
Hate is a strong motivation force.

I wonder: is this reaction as strong as that of Mass Effect 3's ending?

A wise man once said

Social Media Is Not Reality

I understand these people make their living with it in part, and I’m not blaming them. But this is certainly a byproduct of being so visible and vulnerable to the dregs of society.

Disengage with all social media for 3 months and see how your life changes 🤔
I kinda understand what you’re getting at, pulling the plug on social media gets rid of the noise.

But the reality is that it is the reality, and your actions on the net might have very real concequences on someone’s actual real life, words can hurt and scare on the screen just as if they’re said outloud.

I try to act as if I’m sitting at table chatting with strangers with a cup of coffee, if I think it would be weird to suddenly be rude to someone in that scenario then I will think the same way when writing on the net.

Clearly lots of people don’t think that way though, blurting out that someone sitting beside you with a cup of coffee needs to die would be slightly odd I think lol

Uh, what? Dude's a beta male that calls other dudes betas. It's funny for the memes, that's about it.

The man is a fucking nutjob. He hates gays, people of other religions, people from other countries, women, and said one of the biggest mistakes the US has made is allowing women to vote. Literally everything he says is just meant to get clicks. Also he's a pastor and tells people what god says.

I'll never understand why people are still so butthurt about this game. You didn't like it, I get it, it's time to move on. Spending time on a subreddit with the only purpose to keep hating the game is insane.

Obviously you've never heard of r/saltierthancrait. A subreddit dedicated to hating on a movie that came out in 2017.

Because people like a good laugh.

Also, Druckmann loved bantering back at social media at launch, so if the creator wants to put up their dukes, then the other side will too. That's part of the circle of life when it comes to gaming and devs loving social media.

If someone goes to a store and buys a shitty box of cookies. It sucks and you just wasted $3. But it ends there. Nobody is going to go on forever about a stale box of Oreos and Nabisco isnt going to fight back making it an Oreo War. Heck, if someone really wants to amend things refund it and get your money back. Cookie makers and customers dont beat each other over the heads.

A lot of stuff they posted on there was memes and how the characters didn't act like themselves. Quite a bit of them really didn't like when GF reviews said some people didn't understand the story the way it was written and they lost their shit.

so they didn't like the character development that took place through the course of the game?

I know about the Joel and Abby thing. Is that it? Or is there something else than weird adults getting weirdly invested in some polygons?
It's about politics being in video games, Abby supposedly looking trans-sexual and about "evil lesbians" being in the game. At least that's what people told me.

One of the saddest groups of losers on the internet. Never seen anybody need so much validation for disliking something. IIRC they sent off death threats to the voice actors and Druckmann as well
