- NY Mag: Everything You Need to Know About Girls’ Crazy Video Torture Booth
On last night's Girls, we got a look inside Booth Jonathan's apartment, where he took Marnie to end her dry spell. His idea of foreplay was incredibly bizarre and not particularly hot: He locked her inside a TV chamber and forced her to watch gross video footage (hyenas eating dead things, for example) on multiple TVs to the sounds of Duncan Sheik's "Barely Breathing." Marnie emerged shaken, impressed ("You're so fucking talented"), and apparently horny, because the two were having X-shaped sex under the watchful eye of a sassy (no, sad!) mannequin in no time. Intrigued — but not aroused — Vulture asked Girls production designer Matt Munn for details about "Booth's Booth" (a name coined by the show's cast and crew). Here are ten weird facts we learned, including some backstory on Booth's other freak-show artwork, like that blood-smeared dollhouse.

But it's not really different. I stated this before, but it's pretty much Sex and the City "the early years". Now, that is certainly a popular theme to expand on, but it isn't something that should be praised by so many. It definitely should not be looked at as a "new" or "innovative" idea.

wow

i've never known someone to 'not get it' as much as this

Oh please enlightened one, explain.

Outside both shows featuring four women (and let's be honestly, this one is pretty much Hannah and friends) in NYC--Girls has vary little in common with Sex in The City.

The tone is completely different for one. Sex was very much a comedy made for cable. Girls is funny at times, but it's not the same type of humor. It's like comparing The Office to Friends, if that makes sense.

Also, where Sex was told through the eyes of its lead, each episode had a story to tell and was bookended by one of the four women typically learning a life lesson or losing/gaining someone/something with the narration of Carrie to bring it full circle. Girls has none of that and seems to just fly where ever they feel like taking it week to week.

Holy crap, episode 4 was amazing. Favorite in the series. There are some other thoughts I have, not all positive for me, but I don't feel like posting them at this hour. But it was a great episode. Definitely the one they should submit for awards, thus far anyway.

Just watched episode 4, maybe the best episode yet. Ray and Shoshanna are the only characters I can stand, they rock.

Shosh really is the best. I was bummed that in episode 3 she's in one scene, but they made up for it in this episode. Her presence on the show still feels rather small but I hope they improve on it. She's so great, and her and Ray were awesome in this episode.

Ugh. Wanna watch ep 4 but HBO Go chugs on my shitty laptop and I don't have Xbox gold. :(

I'll echo you guys that Episode 4 was AWESOME, best the show has produced yet.

Jessa is probably my fav on the show. The writing for the argument they had was perfect. I could see both of their sides. On one hand she's just so rude and bitchy, but she see's herself as real and unfiltered. Obviously she was attracted to him because he was stable and conventionally successful -- the polar opposite of herself.

Her destroying his "Humanitarian award" was so hilarious.

"Snot rocket"
"I've pee'd in every bathtub I've ever been in, but that's just gross"
"Oh, you mean like the person who welcomes them to the restaurant and walks them to their table. Got it.
"Oh fuuuuck!!! Its fine."

I don't normally care for Jessa but she was hilarious during this episode. The dinner with the parents was great.

New episode tonight. HBO changed the schedule to avoid the Super Bowl. It's also already available on HBO Go and a few other places.
It's a Shame About Ray

Hannah hosts a dinner party; Marnie and Audrey square off; Shoshanna realizes that she has entered a new phase with Ray; Jessa meets Thomas-John's parents.

That's the second episode this season named after a Lemonheads song if anyone else is keeping track.

Director Jesse Peretz used to be their bass player

Oh cool, I didn't know that. He directed the last episode and this one. I think someone on Twitter said that there was a Lemonheads song in the last episode?

that was excellent, nice return after last weeks mess. it started out looking like a comedy focused episode with the two awkward situations set up - hannah's dinner was the better i thought with her inviting marnie out of politeness not expecting her to come and "i think i have three or four folk albums in me", whereas jessa's was a bit obvious and that sort of scene with the disapproving in-laws meeting kooky new girlfriend is really played out.

then it evolved into a really good dramatic episode. the jessa - chris o'dowd argument is the best thing in their storyline so far, the shoshanna-ray stuff was well done and the marnie-charlie stuff was solid too. final scene in the bath was so sweet :3

I wonder if they casted Chris O'Dowd from the set of Bridesmaids just so he can give this sort of "Girl, you hurt people!" speech again. :P

I'm having a very hard time getting through the scene with Jessa meeting the parents. I get that's the point, and it's wonderfully done, but man this is awkward.

Best ep so far this season. Lots of laughs, and not gonna lie, a few tears during the Ray/Shosh subway scene. Such a great show. Can't wait to see how the rest of the season pans out.

My god, easily the best episode of the show. I was doubting the Jessa stuff, but man that all came together with their break up argument and then the stellar scene in the tub. Finally a real moment from Jessa.

Everything else was excellent excellent excellent.

"Ewok with capris" lol.

I watched that promo and I was trying to figure out why it seemed so creepy to me and then I realized he's that pedophile/murderer from Hard Candy.

I'm not sure I liked the Jessa stuff as much. Their relationship spiraled out in one evening? That was really fast.
