It says nothing, because that's your subjective opinion. I think Boardwalk Empire, Enlightened, Girls, Treme, and the recently released mini series Parade's End run circles around Veep. And I love Veep.

HBO is fine.
 
Just saw last week's episode. Agreed that this season has been disappointing. Some of the characters were at least likable in S1. I hate them all in S2. The only people that I cared about in S2 was the doctor and Natalie. And of course the main characters fuck it all up, as expected.
 
I dropped this show early in the season because it was getting too frustrating... seems like I made the right call.

I understand unlikeable characters if you're shooting for realism, but there's nothing remotely realistic about this show. It's also not particularly funny, or terribly insightful. It just leaves me scratching my head thinking why bother?
 
Wow, reset button much? I was hoping they were going to make Hannah really unravel or have her publisher make good on his suing threat.

Hell I'd just watch a show about Ray at this point.

Charlie is most definitely a chump. Poor Ray, Shosh's freakout was good though. Also, Hannah's voicemail for Jessa was good.
 
I'm glad I was right to be skeptical of predictions of Ray being Marnie's manager or some such nonsense. Not really sure what to think of it other than that yet.
 
Finished up the finale. Very uneven season. There were parts of it that I really liked and parts that I hated. I don't know to what extent the stuff I hated was just that the show is exceptionally good at pushing people's buttons. I feel like it's worthwhile for me to continue watching on some level, but it wish it came together better in terms of the overall narrative. There are some good themes and scenes in there with the other junk, but they need to tie it all together. It's frustrating.

This episode seemed right out a crappy, ultra quirky romantic comedy.

Considering that more guys watch this show than girls, then I'm expecting most people to hate it.

But yeah, Ray was on point. I can't get enough of that guy.

EDIT: And Judd Apatow co-wrote this one! C'mon!

BUT we're weeks away from bathing in mad men gloriousness and I know you're excited for that. All is well :P

15 more mins till I get to watch. COME ON HBO.
 
I must be the only one who really liked the finale. everyone hit the reset button, the ending was overly dramatic, but I found all of it to be pretty realistic and thought it was one of the better acted episodes by most of the cast not named Allison Williams. the voice mail part in particular and the Ray/Shosh scene were excellent.

since it seems to be a thing to announce our intentions, I'm all in for season 3. I can't really pinpoint what it is I love about the show : it's not particularly funny, I generally don't find it to be realistic, I don't appreciate lenas constant nudity, I think the show is too short to give much weight to the plots or get too involved with the characters, the gushing praise by some critics is ridiculous... and yet I really really like the show. wish there was more to a season, it's all over way too fast.
 
Wait that was the finale?

Meh, this season was very disappointing, the show is not nearly as thoughtful as it thinks and it was a lot more entertaining when it was at least funny
 
Parts I really liked:
- Colin Quinn
- Ray "let me get the rest of my shit later..."
- Adam "Is this fuckin face space or whatever"

Continuing to dislike Hannah. Didn't really care about the rest. No real excitement for next season or anything but will watch whenever it comes back.

yeah, really erratic season.
 
The grotesque self-mutilation is really unnecessary. The ending to this season was cringe worthy. Hannah's romance with rich successful doctor was so far removed from reality. Jessa disappearing was a disappointment. This entire season was a turd in comparison to season one.

I'm genuinely curious to know if anyone enjoyed this season and why?

I was enjoying it up until this episode, actually. I liked that everything was being painted with broader strokes even if it felt cumbersome. I enjoyed Charlie's story line even though it felt hackneyed - until the result this evening.

Watching Hannah drift into psychosis due to the fact that everyone around her had floated away could have set up some interesting catharsis - but then the finale happened.

I liked where Adam's arch was headed. He's an interesting enough character without Hannah anchoring down his story. I don't feel I need to repeat myself a third time.

Previously this evening I watched what was most likely the series finale of Enlightenment. It really shat all over Girls - and that's painful for me to say because I've been a huge cheerleader for this show from the pilot on.

The season was a bumbling mess, for sure, and whittled down the number of sincerely interesting and well-developed characters to like 2 after this finale. Having to watch Hannah bounce around and do absolutely nothing didn't help anything, either.

I liked season one a lot, so I'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt and at least check out the first few eps next season.

I think this was the point of the episode.

Hannah going on about not having someone around to clean up the mess anymore and how she's frightened, then the call to Jessa about not having anyone even to talk to, but then right at the last minute the boy she wanted to be with comes to her rescue in a twisted 16 candles moment.

That's what they were shooting for I think.
 
I really hated the Adam plotline though, like somehow a girl wanting to enjoy sex and not be abused is just a total bummer because hes such a free spirit

Shoshanna isn't even remotely a real person. She's some weird shallow valley girl feigning humanity and mimicking whatever she thinks someone her age should be doing.

Hannah is... Watching her self-destruct because her friends have left her would be more interesting if it weren't suddenly tied to a legitimate mental illness. Then it just became depressing and bleak because it stopped being about her circumstances and actions and instead about a chemical imbalance.

I want to like this show for its occasional great moments. I really liked that Patrick Wilson episode, but ugh, a lot of this show just annoys the shit out of me.
 
My sister made an interesting point that in the end it turned into this "All you need is a man to be happy" trope. Wonder if that is gonna backfire on Dunham considering how she is a darling to so many of my female friends who pride themselves on being feminists?
 
This season was a mess. That last scene with Adam was cringe worthy, wtf was up with that? And we all know Facetime would not work throughout that entire run to her place.

And how the fuck can Adam make all that noise in his apartment and not have the cops called?

I love Marnie and I don't 'even know her, so I can understand why Charlie does.

Ugh ugh ugh nope nope nope nope

Despite the very uneven season, I felt like episode 9 put us in a place where I could potentially be relatively happy about the season, but this episode was essentially everything I didn't want to happen, happening before my eyes. Felt like a mediocre romcom.
