Glee Season 2 |OT| How Sue "C's" it (and many blindly hate it)

Big big RHPS fan here, and I loved the episode. Sure, I have my complaints (lyric edits ftl)-- but Rocky fans ought to be anything but revenant purists. For fucks sake, every show has people dress up and do bad imitations for the characters, why would they be opposed to anyone else doing the same?

For some reason, the typically-awful story didn't bug me too much, perhaps because it mode so little sense, or because neither does RHPS.

The early reviews for the episode are hilarious. AV Club's is particularly scathing, and rightfully so.

I stopped watching Glee on a regular basis toward the end of last season, but for whatever reason, I tuned in tonight. And wow, that was one of the most excruciatingly awful hours of television I've ever witnessed. This show has no soul anymore. It's a big, tacky ball of stupid with piss-poor characters, ridiculous themed episodes and bad covers of good songs. Not even Jane Lynch can save it.

Well said.

Episode was better than I thought it would be. The opening had me worried they were just doing a cover of Rocky Horror and not a proper episode, but that fear was quickly erased. Probably the most grounded of the theme episodes. I rather enjoyed it. Not amazing, but not bad either.

I absolutely love VanDerWerff's reviews, I agree with almost every criticism he had of this episode, and yet I enjoyed it anyway. What can I say?

Glee is a seriously flawed and maddeningly uneven show (I'm a believer in the Three Glees theory), no question. I suppose either it clicks with you enough for the weaker episodes to be enjoyable or it doesn't. But I totally get why some people have given up on it, or never liked it to begin with.

It is so fucking spot on, seriously tempted to dump this show.

^^^ Not Will, this is alta-Will and he haunts your fucking nightmares.

I thought with the episode from two weeks ago this show was headed back on the right track, but it's just becoming to inconsistent of a mess.

Looking at the Three Glees article posted above me, Ian Brennan and Brad Falchuk should be the only writers on the show, dump Ryan Murphy, his only worthwhile/good episode was Wheels.

I agree with this altogether. Glee is best when it's either actually good (rare) or embraces its own stupidity (tonight's episode).

I have been on the edge of dumping the show many times (even did for a while season one, but my wife kept going) and sometimes it's still worth the time. I knew I wanted to watch tonight's episode, don't know if I'll make it to the end of the season.

Edit: After reading that, I don't really disagree. My really serious complaint is how soulless the episode was. But as a Rocky fan, I still found it kinda fun. I wanted more Riff , though.

Mrs Mouse, reading over my shoulder, says:

"Glee is like having an abusive boyfriend. Every week I get beaten up, but I keep thinking that next week it will change."

I'm so confused.

I've hated every episode this season and most of the second half of season 1. Yet I loved this one. But everyone else seems to loathe it.

What's wrong with me? :(

I was dying of second-hand embarrassment when that thing popped up. Ugh.

Memles' Glee theory is definitely standing true.

you guys are crazy if you weren't entertained. It was a great episode and john stamos' number at the start was really fun. Very amusing episode and santana and britney being pervy outside the window was hilarious. By far one of the more entertaining episodes this season. Britney's voice is so processed in this that btw this and the britney episode she sounds totally different.

stamos "at least if I play eddie I don't have to grind up against students"

santana raises hand

mercedes pushes it down while shaking her head in disgust

:lol :lol :lol

Wow, I thought I was the only one who thought Glee has become a shell of itself before stepping into this thread.

I remember when I thought this might be the next Freaks and Geeks... how wrong I was.

Also, I didn't think about it in this way that GQ is not in shrink wrap like Playboy and can be easily viewed by minors. It's a good point I hadn't thought of but not good enough to not still think this whole controversy is silly.

Too bad those minors already saw 2 girls 1 cup on the internet years ago.

I still like Glee even though I think the show now has gone down hill, but I think calling it the next Freaks & Geeks even at Glee's high points is going a bit far as the show has always been cheesy soap opera-y. I mean, you had the Christian virgin who wouldn't let her boyfriend touch her without praying get knocked up and kicked out of her house in the first half of season 1.
This show was so much better when there was a point to what was going on in the original 13 episodes instead of the constant theme of the week eps that rarely progress anything. It really has no direction now and is being purely used as a cash cow. I constantly see people bashing this show now but surprisingly the viewership has been fairly consistent. But then again, I bash a lot about this show but come back every week because there's still stuff I enjoy about it.

Edit: Oh and, I'll leave this here:

omg, thank you! All of a sudden, this has retroactively improved my Glee viewing experience.

I mean, Will's always creeped me out before, but goddam. Just look at how many blog posts were inspired by last night's episode alone! :lol

Having not watched the show for a while, Will's behavior was especially shocking. He's been rather douchebaggy every since his divorce, but goddamn, what a fucking douchebag.

Ryan Murphy's complete lack of concern for character development is pathetic. A lot of Glee apologists counter with "Well it's Glee and it's crazy and random by nature," which is a cop-out. How can you possibly identify with characters that have no real sense of identity? They're just props that serve a completely different purpose every week.

I think it's telling that pretty much any discussion of this season centers on how absurd Will has become and isn't about the kids. Even Rachel has been pretty much forgotten with how much of a douchebag Will has become.

His obsession with Emma is beyond creepy. Add that to everyone just sort of shrugging off the fact that he used the kids as his pawns to get close to Emma which is ridiculous. And then of course in the end, Will 'learns his lesson'. I bet in 2-3 episodes he once again plots some way to get close to Emma.

The episode was alright, looked like they had fun doing it. I can understand having to change the lyrics to get past the censors, but I really disliked the actual musical delivery of a few of the songs.

It was kinda necessary as that's part of the number from RHPS.

I need to make clear that it is Todd's theory.

Watched the episode and enjoyed myself, but as usual its like the moaning and complaining is on auto repeat

For a show that has so many haters, its amazing how many of you want to quit the show but keep watching just to tell us you want to quit the show :lol

Its like reading a Big Bang Theory GAF Thread

Hah, maybe because they called the school McKinley I just naturally assumed that the show was trying to go for the same thing. But maybe in hindsight it never even approached F&G.

This show would have been better minus Will. He should take a vacation one day and see how the show turns up.

I hope John Stamos stays around for another season. I'd rather Emma stay with him than Will. He's just gotten so creepy these days. He's okay singing when it's in the classroom or with NPH but with the kids is just wrong.

Lea Michele & Matthew Morrison played Brad and Janet at a Rocky Horror Tribute recently. Hit the link to hear them sing "Damnit Janet" together. The two funny things about this is: 1) It is weird seeing Mr. Shu kiss Rachel and 2) Tim Curry snubbed Glee's Rocky Horror tribute but showed up for this one.:lol

Let the creepy Mr. Shu memes continue. He keeps giving us new material, he's like the gift that keeps on giving.:lol

The song list for the next episode is online, and there are only four of them this time, which will likely please the many non-fans of the RPHS episode. There are strong (and presumably deliberate) echoes of a certain episode from last season (
Vitamin D
), but those who've seen the previews will know there's a small twist there.

Order may not be correct:

Bob Marley - One Love
The Supremes vs. En Vogue - Stop! In the Name of Love/Free Your Mind
Katy Perry - Teenage Dream
Bon Jovi vs. Rolling Stones - Living On a Prayer/Start Me Up

I am so bored of people who don't watch this show and just come here randomly to show how clever they are they stopped watching it so much time ago.

OK I'm now up to date on season 2. A little too many theme'd episodes so far but generally still entertaining.
