GMR's RE4 review

The news has broken over the Intraweb, and unfortunately, the documents are real.

As of the February issue, GMR is being discontinued. Subscribers will be the only ones to receive the February issue, and all subscribers will have the option to switch over to another Ziff mag (I suggest XBN).

That's all the news we have for you right now, but more details will be forthcoming in the days ahead.

All of you guys and gals are the best, thanks for keeping this board awesome for the past two years.

And Resident Evil 4 is a 10/10.

GMR was a not a bad magazine at all and it's a pity it was terminated. The main thing that affected how I viewed the magazine at times was the attitude of some of the editors on the boards. Some condescending and insulting behavior at many times when it just wasn't warranted.

At least if the mag's going out, it's closing with a great game to review.

I hope the GMR guys fight to get the Retroview section added to another ZD pub... Ahem. I always looked forward to that section every month.

My friend is a DM for EB...don't blame them...EB was more than willing to force their sales associates to push the magazine subscriptions, but appearantly Ziff was not willing to bulk up the size of the magazine or fight for any real exclusives like GI does, such as the RE 4 exclusive and the Halo 2 exclusives that GI had. Any exclusives that ZD had went to EGM, XBN, et al.

Also a customer survey from EB revealed the majority of customers only signed up for the 10% discount card. I have also seen alot of complaints here that EB employees pushed the mag subscription on their customers, thus leading to the knocking down of a magazine rack. You reap what you sew!
 
Can't read to actually read the whole review. This game looks too good.

Also, the cancelling of GMR sucks.

Me too. It's a shame about GMR, good mag. Best of luck to you guys and gals in the future. There's a lot of gaming mags around right now that could use some good writers so hopefully you'll all land on your feet. :)

this is really interesting to hear, now from a second source. we have been told that it was EB's decision to pull the plug (they always had the controlling interest), and ZD would have kept us going if they could. from the beginning of the mag to about september of this year, eb was controlling the purse strings (and thusly, the page count). so the size of our book was not ziff's fault.

and even though we didn't really break new games like GI did, if you look at our exclusive review covers you'll see some pretty heavy hitters (RE4, Fable, Ninja Gaiden, Soul Cali 2, NFSU2) along with games that deserved covers but probably wouldn't have gotten them from anyone else, excluding maybe Play (Paper Mario, ZOE2, F-Zero, SSX3).

(and yeah, I got banned a while back for being an asshole to bish. 'twas my bad.)

You guys totally provided coverage to the right shit, and it's a shame GMR is no more. Our condolances go out to your and your crew, and here's hoping you all land on your feet.

Edit: Also, I loved the MGS3 review.
 
Is the game really finished? I didn't think the game had even gone Gold yet? If that's the case, a 10/10 for an incomplete game! WOW!

It's releasing in mid-Janurary. If it isn't gold yet, it will be in a matter of days.

Yeah, that feature was excellent. I always loved it. The covers were excellent as well. I hope all of you GMR guys find new jobs, and you should definetly keep writing. Your writing was very sophisticated as well. Just goes to show you that you should always expect the unexpected. On the topic of the RE 4 review, I am quite surprised. I was expecting a lot from this game, and it seems like it will live up to my lofty expectations. Now I really can't wait for it. I guess I will have to beat the demo a few more times today. :lol

The other dude can definitely suck the fuck, by the way.

While I'm covering my bases, Dave Halverson fucks corpses and Doug Perry is a dumb-dumb head.

Magazines often get review builds long before any internet site gets it.
