'God of War' Hinges on the Bond of Its 2 New Actors

Honestly where do you hear this from? Because this is not the mainstream opinion at all. Just look at the interest this game has on youtube. This game is going to be huge when it launches. People wanted this.
Ironic use of bias. I already pointed that huge interest on Youtube out to him, which he conveniently ignored.

the combat is the only thing i don't have confidence in.

It doesnt look nearly as fun and varied as the hack n slash combat of the other titles.

I can't believe people are still missing the point of TLOU's ending. They just can't bear to identify with a morally wrong character so they twist them into something palatable. Joel did nothing wrong!!1

I hope that when people go into GoW4 they just enjoy playing a reformed mass murderer trying to live a peaceful existence and protect something innocent, rather than trying desperately to twist it into something it's not.

Not ignoring anything... (Although for some reason I have completely missed your post!) and if you do read my post I have admitted it could be in my circles and that all people tend to do is bitch on Kratos.

I am glad there is a new GOW game. And the trailer was amazing, I hope they deliver the goods too. However, personally I really would have preferred something new...

All I know is, Christopher Judge was awesome in Stargate SG-1 and, as much as I feel for the "original" Kratos, Judge is a tremendously capable actor.

Of course, none of this matters unless his range of emotions is required to expand beyond angry (lol) - but Teal'c started out as a fairly pissed off dude also. Sorted.

Will see where it goes...

Greek myth was hardly 'exhausted' but I do really like the Norse setting and understand the need for a change.

For me though, I don't understand why it needed to be made... this could have been a new IP completely with a character that people wont have an instant dislike of due to actions in previous games...

What ? There's huge demand for another God of War game and Kratos is liked by the majority and overall the game will make good money for Sony. There's your reasons. And honestly, i know a lot of people that are hyped as F for the game, it looks fucking amazing too.

A new God of War game with a character other than Kratos would be a risky move for Sony to do, it could flop sales wise. People want more Kratos whether you like it or not.

Sony Santa Monica's writing is terrible and this game hinges on whether the new combat system is good.

Barlog's willing to talk about the story vs. the gameplay is honestly weird.

Gow is a flagship Playstation franchise
Kratos is very popular despite what GAF says. I know I would have been annoyed if they replaced him.
There is room for a redemption story

SSM rarely fluff their lines when it comes to combat.
I really think we will be getting gameplay blowouts at Paris Games Week or maybe PSX.

Makes sense to talk a little more about story first, spectacle and good combat are a given from this studio.
I'm still a little wary of Kratos' new axe however, it hasn't grabbed me all that much and doesn't seem as visceral as the blades of chaos.

I'm really curious to see what they can do with that as their main weapon choice.

I can't be the only person who thinks what Joel did in the end was right move.
20 years...20 fucking years has passed since the the outbreak. Even the cure did worked it wouldn't do damn thing to save the world. Infected already done their damage, they are no longer the biggest thread here other insane people are and they are not suddenly going to stop. If Joel didn't stop them Ellie would have died for nothing.

Sorry but I hate this logic
a 01% chance is still a chance. Even if the world couldn't be fixed a cure could still be a massive benefit for the survivors. It would make fighting the infected significantly less risky if a bite wasn't a guarantied death sentence. People like Riley,Tess, and Sam would still have a chance. Yes there's no guarantee they could make a cure and I understand Joel's actions even if I don't agree with them. But a cure would absolutely not be nothing.

Sorry for the off topic rant but I saw this a lot as a lurker and just wanted to give my two cents.

The thing is, humanity seems to be too far gone. You eradicate the virus then what? There's no government, there's no law, there's no order. That's another steep hill to climb.

Joel already had his daughter being a sacrifice for the greater good and it was for nothing. He already went there once and he still has the scars 20 years later.

Another reason for humans to destroy one another.

First day buy for me, didn't really care about the story line for most of the series but loved the action across all the games. Can't wait.

Ugh, they're trying so hard to be Naughty Dog/TLoU.

Game looks so bleh.

Bit harsh.
I think Cory and SSM genuinely wanted to tell a more meaningful story.
This would've likely happened even without TLoU existing but it certainly has inspired some storytelling elements for the new GoW.

(Not a bad thing imo as TLoU is best in class for such)

I still think those who simply want a great action game will get that out of this.

I have always the same feeling from months, from the reveal, that there are no news on this game.

They keep saying always the same things. The child, Kratos is changed and he's more human, and so.... No words on bosses, gods, magic and weapons, new characters, something fresh.

I know that there will be likely an info blowout at PSX, but the marketing on this game it's starting to become frustrating.

I'd rather it hinge on the combat, but, OK, I'm glad the story will be good also.

Yea, this is where I'm at too. I'm going to wait and see, but I still don't like this over the shoulder combat stuff.

Also, couldn't care less how he bonds with his son, I always hate when stories add children to increase the stakes and try to make you care more. It's a cheap trick and has never made a movie better IMO, so I doubt it's going to make the story great.

Logan defintely disagrees with you.

Man this games marketing is so weirdly low key and unconventional but when you hear cory speak about the game you just get the feeling cory knows exactly what he's doing

Sony is all about these pair driven games. The Last of Us, The Last Guardian, God of War. I'm sure they'll pull it off very well.

That was Stig's game. It didn't go well. So they went back to what they knew.

The fact we know and played through Kratos' past makes it a far, far more interesting story IMO.

But then I never really got why people made a big deal out of how shitty Kratos was. Sure, I think they mishandled that character after GoW1 (something Barlog's admitted and Stig clumsily tried to retcon in GoW3) but even then, it was so cartoonish I never took it seriously.
