Microsoft is moving slowly in this direction, but Sony and Nintendo’s core business model is proprietary hardware driven by proprietary software to drive install base and then feast on software sales and accessories. Not sure how that will change

Microsoft are aiming to extinguish console wars. Once everyone and everything is Gamepass (or whatever future service they are using as a monetization base), choice of console is only as relevant as any other accessory.
