God of War Ragnarök becomes Sony’s highest rated game on PlayStation 5

Reviews for the latest edition of the iconic game 'God of War', and 'God of War Ragnarök' has become the highest-rated game on the Sony PlayStation 5. The game has garnered a Metacritic rating of 94, making it the second-highest-rated video game of 2022, just behind Elden Ring (96). However, among first-party titles, Kratos's latest exploits in God of War Ragnarök trump all of them.

'God of War Ragnarök' is the ninth installment in the series, and the game is available on PS4 and PS5. As expected, the pre-launch reviews of the game have been over the roof, as the game is all set for a worldwide release on November 9.

And you know what happens every time a game becomes most highly rated around here? Eventually people start calling it "overrated".

But it definitely winds down mid game.
Can you believe the nerve of this guy?

Edit. Elden ring honestly is a unique game. Its very interesting concept, in which I hope certain devs use it for their games.
Plus the game is above mid game. At least its very good game.

Worst combat in the genre, possibly all of gaming.
Maybe you should play Skyrim before claiming that. Compare to other FROM games it has very basic combat which make sense it was experimental game structure and how online worked.

Exaggeration of the fucking century, I mean holy shit my dude.

'GOW'

You haven't played many games, don't you.

I feel like you're all trolling when you say Demon Souls has great combat.

Im not even exaggerating when I say I dont think I can find a more simple, uninspired, boring and just straight up fucking WACK combat system.

It's run. Block. Hit. Mixed in with retarded AI. Amazing combat!

Show me something worse. I dare you.

The Witcher 3 if you want a modern game.

For older games, check out Arx Fatalis combat. Game is pretty cool but holy shit, melee combat in that game couldn't be more simple. It's an RPG tho so it gets a pass, combat isn't the focus.

Edit: forgot about King's Field lol, that'd be the obvious answer.

I loved Elden Ring, but it's a little overrated. A lot of Copy/Paste. It's still an amazing game overall. But it definitely winds down mid game.
Yeah I doubt most reviewers got that far

The first 50% of the game lives up to reviews but the later half is much weaker and you begin to see how much is reused

He literally didnt

If anything Sony's recent games have a flaw of starting too slow and taking a couple hours to really take off

He literally did. Aside from the rare entry such as BloodBorne, most of their games are the same after the halfway mark with just busy work and zero depth. Last of Us, Uncharted 4, Ghost of Tsushima, Spider Man, Miles Morales, Horizon 1 and 2 - normally this isn't an issue but when the games are needlessly long and lasting for over 40+ hours? Shit gets old.

It rated higher than Demons Souls, Elden Ring, Hades and It Takes Two?

I dont know whether to be impressed or disappointed, if Ragnarok is "the best game" on PS5 this far into the generation.
As in technically speaking, God of War Ragnarok is currently game of the generation....and its crossgen and doesnt bring any of the "nextgen-ness" of what we were promised the PS5 would offer.

The title did say Sonys.

As for Demon Souls it has a meta of 92.

As for it being crossgen as long as the game is awesome it shouldn't really matter. Don't think critics are docking points because a PS4 version exists. The game is too good for that to happen.

Cant wait for this but turned off the latest episode of nextlander once they started highlighting their issues with how much loot and constant upgrades loot management etc. It sounds extremely bloated in its loot and combat systems but I just want to jump in now and see for myself.

Glad it's god if war that's the highest rated, I just hope we see another Sony Santa Monica game that is true next gen only before the gen is over.

I didn't say it was great necessarily, just that it's much better than GoW's combat. Then you haven't played many games at all my dude, a few users already pointed out a few examples of games with much worse combat. I'd throw The Witcher in as well, the combat in those games is fucking atrocious.

As for the run/block/hit...two things: ridiculous oversimplification of it, which can be done to pretty much any game to make it look worse, and this isn't an Hack n' Slash.

GoW probably has the best combat in an action game, let's be real. Unlike games dmc, it's not just offense, you can't button mash your way through. You have to read the enemies, defend and time things. Plus it feels way more fun which is the point of video games. I agree the camera can be too close but nothing is perfect

It's clunky, and the combat is terrible and slow
No it isn't, but ok.
Probably should have stopped then if you didn't want to compare it to a hack and slash
I wasn't comparing the type of combat, but the execution of what both games were trying to do. He made a ridiculous oversimplification of the combat while missing the point of the game itself. A forward is a totally different kind of player than a defender, but you can still determine which one did his job better.

No you fucking weren't. You haven't even played the game you clown lmao
