Going to bars solo and not drink alcohol. Is this allowed?

So I have a bad habit of wanting to go to bars after work to socialize, but drinking every day is not good. I want to still go some nights and only drink non alcoholic drinks, but I'm not sure how this works or if it is even possible. How many non alcoholic drinks would I have to order per hour to not be kicked out? BTW I always tip.

That probably depends on the place you're at. Personally, I never heard of a bar that kicks people out for only ordering non alcoholic drinks. only if you don't order at all or bring your own stuff.

Why do you think you will get kicked out if you do not order enough? Order food/drink and don't cause a fight and you are good for hours.

What the...

There are literally millions of people who go to bars and order soft drinks. Bars make a killing on the mark up. Am I being an idiot by answering this question seriously?

Just have fun! They won't mind!

I've never gotten into trouble for my vow of avoiding intoxicants. Bar owners respect my rights just so long as I have a good time and don't cause any trouble.

Just go in for good clean fun and you leave on your feet!

i do this sometimes when i wanna still hang while on my self imposed no drinking spells

I just order soda water with a lime or some cranberry juice

Totally fine. Especially after work.

The only thing that I could see a person maybe getting in some trouble for is just showing up sober to pick up drunk girls, but if you're going with some friends who are drinking and you're having some non-alcoholic beverages, go for it.

This guy would do it...

Total Canadian reference.

wait.....if you just want to drink non-alcoholic bevvies alone, why go to a bar where everyone else will be drunk? Can't you just go to a lounge or some other place? And there's no rule against it if you really want to do it lol, just seems a bit strange for me (I've never been in trouble for not ordering anything when I was the designated driver)

I thought lounges were pretty much the same as bars.

What's the point of going to a bar if you're alone and won't drink alcohol? I'm sure there are better places to go in that context

Tipping at bars gets us drinks faster. Faster drinks = faster drunk :D

in the rest of the world you just pay the price of the drink and you get it fast.

Which bar kicks you out for ordering non alcoholic drinks..?

No bar that wants to stay in business. There are plenty of reasons to go into a bar and not have a "drink." You could be a designated driver; you could be on medication for a few days; maybe you're trying to quit (although why you'd surround yourself with that kind of temptation is a bit bizarre.)

Socializing with friends/co-workers without drinking is totally normal. (Although with mine, who always insist on Flip Cup or Beer Pong, it's not very likely.)

hey babe, watcha having? double vod is it? don't mind me i'm just here on my own staying stone cold sober.

Bars usually have sweet potato fries. You are at a location with sweet potato fries, why the heck wouldn't you order some sweet potato fries? They won't care if you don't drink but I think you should order sweet potato fries.

This is why the designated driver was banned from bars back in the 70s

Can the Euros not ruin the thread with their anti-tipping bullshit please? Yes, if you are a good tipper, you will get your drinks quicker and perhaps stronger. Of course, that's where it's applicable.

To the OP: I used to go to bars all the time to wait for my friends to get off work, and since I wasn't a big drinker at the time, I'd just get a coke and wings. Not a problem in the world.

I used to order tacos and spend hours finishing them. The waitress was really nice and didn't seem to mind. That was when I was quitting drinking. I realized that by eating a taco for a long time and savouring it, then I could put down the whisky. A shot of whisky that day lasted me 4 hours. One of my last, actually.

Not uncommon for some bars to have a drink limit, especially strip clubs. You don't have to drink alcohol, but you'll pay a high price for a soft drink.
