GOOD GOD, MY 360 is BROKEN AGAIN.

If that is true, that is completely ridiculous. :lol

It's pretty obvious from the pictures and description. If this is the case with almost all 360 with heat problems ... :lol :lol :lol

That's gonna be a lot of broken X360s. Anybody know if this has been corrected yet? I've been waiting on getting one because of this issue.

Well, the guy says that also 360s of pretty new manufactoring date have this issue....

The sad thing is that this is a problem that could kill your 360 in a few days or in many months. The protector foil itself will transfer heat, just not as effective and controlable as the paste. The effectiveness of the heat transfer will be variable, so expect a lot of dying boxes after months, maybe after the warranty ... how long was the warranty again? Now you could open the box and check if the protector foil is there or not, but that of course would'nt help with your warranty.

Yeah, hahahahahahahahahahaha! Isn't it SOOO funny that people who spent their hard-earned cash on the system could be fucked if this problem proves to be widespread!?

:lol :lol :lol

This already seems to have been discredited in the very thread in this german forum by another poster there - allegedly this foil is a part that should not be removed and also can be found in Dell machines etc.

Who would seriously believe that companies like Flextronic etc. would make mistakes like that (on millions of consoles)? It's not like the 360 is the first thing they assemble.

Seems very very far fetched to say at the very least.

1. People on this forum with certain agendas.

2. I hope it is "far-fetched", because if not, it's class action lawsuit time!

Not really. The paste will always tranfer heat better than the foil or you wouldn't use any of that paste at all.

Thanks for correcting my shitty spelling sir :D

If it is indeed class action lawsuit time it would be the respective manufacturers who would have to pay.

I just re-read this german forum and it really seems like this person got excited over nothing. He probably already saw himself as the big internet-hero that discovered the big Microsoft Xbox 360 cock up and how incredibly stupid MS is.

Also according to him this does not only affect some consoles, but every single one of them and also consoles with the latest manufacturing dates. He didn't even find it remotely surprising that after there were issues with some consoles at launch, Microsoft or the manufacturing companies wouldn't remove the foil of death.

Ah well.

Edit:

That might well be the case. Unfortunately this guy has not even tried to run the console without the foil yet to see if the problem would disappear. They are about to test it tomorrow.

huh .. looks like a shim of some kind, which is really sort of bizarre. i've never encountered that sort of thing in my experience installing heatsinks, usually you just want the thinnest layer of thermal paste between your core/heatspreader and the sink. the foil looks (?) to be taller than the paste itself.

A poster at B3D is thinking the same thing, with a possible explanation:

Looks to me like a shim. The GPU and daughter die can't be guaranteed to be in the same plane, so putting one heat sink on both of them could possibly damage one or the other. The foil (which is good at conducting heat, better than thermal paste) creates a flat surface for the heat sink to contact, then contacts both dies.

I sent mine off two days ago. I hope to get it back next week. I know man it sucks, I just heard a clickw hile downloading a demo and it just froze. different thing completely.

This shit is getting ridiculous, I'm about to make a thread to find out how many people have X360's that HAVEN'T broken.

You could, but I'd be the only one to post there.

Ok MS, seriously get your shit together. My 360 that came back just under a week ago is once again broken.

For some reason when Im playing the game the gyro (or whatever it is) inside the system that recognizes whether it is horizontal or vertical goes haywire and the disc starts making godawful noises and locks up.

I can tell whats going on because the lights on the console that lets you know which controllers are turned on. The light changes position depending on how the console it orientated. The top left is allways player one, so its different for different orientations. So, when my console locks up, disc drive starts making noises like mad and the lights are bugging out between the two positions.

Looks like another week with no 360 for stooge. Lets hope UPS doesnt lose it this time.

Oh, and for those keeping track, I didnt get the branch I wanted. The bad luck continues it seems.
You know, if I were you, I'd sell the 360 when you get back, use that money to go by a gun and some bullets... and do GAF the favor of another thread like this...... HOWEVER......

I'm not you... so I'm sure you wouldn't do that. Sucks yet again.

i seriously doubt the foil would conduct better .. the reason paste is even used in the first place is to provide a very very thin malleable layer that fills in the imperfections on both the core and the sink's underside so that there is maximum contact (no air gaps).

I gave my cousin my launch 360 after my pre-order from gamestop finally came through in january.

two days later... it died.

he sent it in... only to get a crappier 360 that froze non stop, scratch up discs, and then... it died... a couple of hours later.

they are taking it back in... and for all the trouble they sent him a free copy of kameo... a game that he has no interest in... at all... and made fun of me for even owning a game like it.

long story short... i feel he will be a die hard Revolution fanboy once he gets his hands on one that lasts longer than a week.
FIXED! I mean do you seriously except the PS3 to be built like a tank like the Revolution will be?
