GOOD GOD, MY 360 is BROKEN AGAIN.

This really riles me up! I have 15 year old equipment that still works (i'm sure many ppl here have older stuff). That, and bloody patches for games. Everyone used to joke about that when Microsoft first introduced the pc-alike Xbox.. but now it's bloody true!

Defects happen in electronics, its not 100% MS.

I will however be interested to see the number of defects after 9 to 12 months

Everytime I see a thread like this I get more and more worried about my 360 eventually croaking but with my luck it'll be just after the 90 day warranty :(

You and me both, mate. That's my luck exactly.

I'm wondering if I should just call them up and bullshit and try and get them to replace the system before my warranty expires. The only problem I have from time to time is I get Disc Read Errors and they are very, very hot to the touch.

I didn't bother to buy an extended warrenty, as I didn't think I'd need one. Threads like this aside, let's hope that I'm not proven wrong. :/

Say Whaaaaaaaaaaa!

you didnt get an extended warranty. you just paid out over 300 dollars for a launch system... and we all know that launch systems tend to be problematic. Companies spin like it's a small few... but shit... I DONT WANT TO BE ONE OF THE SMALL FEW THAT HAS TO BUY ANOTHER 300+ console

...

AND START ALL OVER... IN EACH GAME I OWN (i swear to god if my ridge racer 6 save wasnt transferrable i would have frisbeed it out my window).

let me stop by saying an extra 30-60 bucks (if you want the 2 year) is nothing compared to buying another 300+ system.

trust me.

last gen i went through 2 PS2 (1 DDE / 1 Broken) and about 3 Xboxes (hard drive, DDE, flashed red for no apparent reason)

60 bucks could have saved me from paying hundreds... i should have taken the insurance before and im glad i took it now... i really recommend you do it to.

oh yea... as a sidenote... i owned one purple gamecube...

ONE...

god bless nintendo.

..our 360 at work died the other day.

Well, the system still turns on, displays etc, but all the usb ports are fried. Static electric shock we're thinking, but the back ports and the two front ones are dead. Only thing that works is a wireless controller, but that isnt' plausible in a retail environment.

So basically, we have a brick that shows the dashboard.

I would buy the extended warranty, but I don't plan on giving MS one cent for the right to keep this system alive. Plus, playing the 360 long-term is just a bonus for me, since I'm just out of college and looking for a job/apartment/non-gaming things.

Just a flip side of the coin...knock on wood but myself and my 2 nephews each have launch x360's and none of the 3 have had an issue yet. knock on wood again....seem strange that people that have had problems and repairs done are seeing issues again.

oh, and the 2 nephews each have their x360's horizontal while mine stands in tower mode. Had it horizontal as well, but switch to tower mode to stand next to my new 40 inch lcd panel. =)

Just think.. for every 1 person that posts here about thier defective 360 there are probably 500 that are working fine.

I dont see the reason for buying a warranty right now... Even after my 3months are up, if it breaks i'm gonna bitch to them until they give in.

I know what you're saying, and believe me, I am considering buying an extended warranty for my system. Still, I am incredibly lazy when it comes to things like this, not to mention that I've been lucky enough that none of the systems I have owned since the Genesis have died on me-- hiccups here and there, yes, but they all still work. Sure that may be flawed reasoning, but I bought my 360 on Dec. 22nd, so I still have some time yet on the 90-day. Whether or not anything happens in that timeframe, I will most likey get the 2-year extension. $60 you said?

actually according to MS's own numbers there are 3 people with a busted one to every 100 with a working one...

Funny thing is each time I call Microsoft support and tell them it's been five weeks since I sent out my console and I've been having real problems, they tell me I seem to be an isolated case. Apparently the rest of you are liars.

Whenever I leave the 360 on and have to walk away from it, I half expect to come back to it just lying there dead. I try not to ever touch it. Heck, I hardly ever put discs in and out for fear of it getting fried for some unknown reason.

I've never owned a console that had me more worried about failure than this one.

zedge said:
Well 3% aint that bad.. :)

Umm, are you employed by MS or just a fanboy? 3% is pretty bad. They shouldn't have rushed the launch and then everyone would have a working machine.

I really like to wait a year before buying a console because of this stuff. Like buying a car, you never buy the first year it seems.

Wonder how many even dare turn their 360's on when summer comes around ? Winter maybe being kind on them ?

maybe they mean your console is in isolation. As in lost somewhere all by itself.

microsoft offers a 2 year extended warranty for 59.90... you'll see that in your xbox 360 box if you still have it.

gamestop, best buy, and other retailers have 1 year warranties.

Search eBay for $20 "fix it yourself" PS2's. Nintendo is the only company that seems capable of making a machine that lasts through the generation.

"everyone" :lol

Yea cause the xbox is the only thing to ever be defective...

Well, if you go with the 700,000 xbox 360 numbers sold, take 3 percent of that you come up with 21,000 Xbox 360's with defects. Or just about half the Japanese that bought a 360.

Stupid question, but the Service Contract that came with my 360 says that I had to have sent it in within 10 days of the purchase date (Dec. 22). So how would I go about extending the warranty before the 90-day one expires?

I got the console back. They just didn't seem to take note that I had also sent in the HD and power cables. I can tell you how fun it is screwing open the disc drive, putting in a disc and hopelessly pushing the power button, hoping for some holy intervention.

I dont really care to be honest. Mine works fine, screw everyone else.

Everyone says that and then the next week they're back here at GAF telling us how their box got lost by UPS.

They're doing this stuff no questions asked right now. You just need a serial number, since every system is under warranty.

quit putting your systems on their sides...even though microsoft thinks they designed the system that way..its clearly not a good idea..I mean shit they are easy enough to knock over that way with no stands..

And this is why you don't buy a new console unless it's from nintendo becuase they FUCKING rule when it comes to reliability at launch. Always wait 8-12 months.
FIXED THAT FOR YA'.

Call...they can do it over the phone. Thats what the lady tried doing wit me when i registered my system.

I am going to murder your family if that happens now.... :)

I agree, but didn't say as such, because I didn't want to come off as a Nintendo fanboy trolling. :)
It's not trolling at all. It pisses me off that no one it seems can make a videogame console, save for Nintendo, that last's thru the generation as someone else pointed out.

AND, if anything does go wrong, Nintendo's customer service is tops by a margin so wide it's almost criminal.

Why the hell does Microsoft/Sony suck at reliability?

Heh. Like a txb party in here.

I really ought to start paying you for these threads, because this is like phone sex for a hater like me.

It's okay. When talking about system reliability/customer service, Nintendo is the best. Damn, they will replace your DS system for a dead/stuck pixel without any problems.

Nothing to hate on in this regard...

Isn't it ironic that the only console I've ever had to send in for warranty work because it died was a launch Gamecube?

The word back from the folks at MS have it at well below the 3%-5% range, which is the consumer electronics average. Take that however you may, which I know you will anyway :D

Trust me, Nintendo did that on purpose.

arne Im having a hard time buying it. Unless Im the unluckiest guy in the world. Ive had 1 busted Xbox 3 months after launch, a Thompson drive that had to be replaced a few years later in the second Xbox I got. Now Ive got two busted 360's.

Prior to this the only issue Ive ever had with a console was an overheating PSX (well other than NES games taking a year to get to boot up)..

come to think of it the three non-gaming company consoles Ive had (Sony and MS compared to Sega, Nintendo, Atari) are the ones that have had issues.

So what're you guys all going to do after the first year?

You know, after it costs money to get these things fixed?

Best Buy replacement plans FTW.
you mean 90 days...

which is on the 17th of this month for all the e10m winners (like me), who don't have a longer warranty...

Yes? It's not like I'm hiding anything, that's why I said, take it however you may. I was just relaying what I hear at our meetings.

how come in every thread like this tehres always defenders? a problem in a console is a problem and it sucks. stop protecting problems!

Yeah, its not like Arne stealth works for MS, its pretty well known. 3% failure rates (or lower) might actually be correct.. but thats still 30K consoles, which is more then enough people to make alot of noise bitching on the internet.

I just think Im the unluckiest guy in the world. I dont blame MS, I actually think it may be my fault :(

MS also said that the system would come with an HDD and wireless controller as standard. Doesn't mean they're always telling the truth, does it?

.. and this is why you don't buy MS or Sony launch stuff, for some reason it seems like the big N makes quality stuff. Sorry about your troubles... I guess it happens.. I imagine the same will happen with PS3 if history replays itself.
