Now I'm not going to call you a fucking liar..., yet. Send me a link to the Criterion release of Ran.

Sorry I somehow mixed up with the 4-pack Kurosawa boxset. I did not even knew the DVD release of Ran was not a Criterion and I was going to buy it. My faith in Criterion is restored. :)

David Lynch's Lost Highway. There has not been a U.S. release, and the Canadian one sucks ass. :( Also, the rest of the La Femme Nikita tv series needs to be released. They released season 1. Then they finally released season 2, only to recall it before it was in most stores (due to liscensing problems with the music I believe). That was almost a year ago, and they still havn't put season 2 back on shelves. I managed to snag season 2 back at the aborted release, so that's not really my problem. The problem is, if they can't get season 2 out the door, when am I ever gonna see season's 3, 4, and 5?

Check Wal-Mart or something for the Frighteners. I see it's hideous abomination of a cover all over the place... If you can wait, though, there's a special edition in the works (along with - finally - The Game).

I wish there was wide release of Murnau's Sunrise. Are they still handing copies of it out to people that buy a handful Fox classics or is that deal over?

I think the mail-away offer is dead, but you can still find the "Studio Classics" box set that it came in for around $20 or so. A great deal at that price, and you can just Ebay the other discs from the set if you already have or don't want them.

Seven Samurai for 30 bucks US is great compared to the bloated price in Canada (around 60 bucks).

Whoever said "The Wizard" is dead on, and how about some SUMMER SCHOOL!??

Awesome movie.

It's shitty P&S, but I really wanted it.

Aparentally there is a special edition coming out soon.

What exactly have you heard regarding a "Special Edition"? I've been waiting on Lost Highway's DVD release for a good long while.

Is your copy of Lost Highway the Canadian version? How do like it? I heard that version was barely better than VHS, otherwise I would already own it.

On the IMDB boards someone was mentioning a Special Edition, sorry but I don't remember what they said, I just checked and can't seem to find the thread.

My version is the Canadian edition, and the first 45 minutes of it are almost unwatchable, the sound quality is just awful, and the first 45 minutes are so dark, and this DVD doesn't handle it too well. But when Pete kicks in, it looks alright. Not DVD quality, but better than VHS.

I just wanted the movie. And I would never buy a VHS.

Probably the best deal you can find on Seven Samurai is the Kurosawa collection, which sells for $123 at Amazon (includes Seven Samurai, Hidden FOrtress, Yojimbo and Sanjuro). Puts the per-movie price at a little over 30 bucks.

19 minutes of cut footage. And if you're seriously insinuating I shouldn't mind Raymond Burr's presence...

Very important minutes such as an old woman crying, "I lived through Nagasaki, I don't think I can handle something like this."

The excised line draws a very solid line through the atom bomb metaphor of Godzilla and is a pretty good indication that the people who released the movie in America didn't think the public was ready to see the face Japanese suffering that soon after WWII.

Just an FYI - I emailed Rialto (the distributor for last year's release of the Japanese version), and they say that a DVD is coming later this year, although they haven't set a date.
