not just that. Look at the stock iOS 10 wallpaper. The areal shot of a blueish teal ocean, alongside the translucent bottom 'dock'.

What was the iOS 9 stock wallpaper? Take a look at the Nexus 5x / 6p defaults. They didn't get this idea from Apple.

Can't decide between this phone or a Note 7.

It's a good thing Samsung dropped the ball with the release of the Note 7 as it's making me at least consider the Pixel.

That has been a bit of a trend with android phones this year.

Which ones (not from a Chinese manufacturer)?

Fear-mongering and hysteria doesn't phase me ;)

If anything, the Note 7s will probably be more durable after the recall.

I was joking, but do actually wait until the Note 7 is fixed before you potentially buy one.

I have two co-workers that haven't returned theirs, and I'm hoping they got one of the good ones.

So no expandable memory still eh? My Note 4 is still barely kicking but it seems no phone is worth upgrading to so far. I just don't get why Google can't make the phone we all desperately want. I'm so tired of the incremental "we added 6 more pixels and made it a micron thinner" bullshit. Just take 2 years off, do the research, and come back with a killer hardware + software combo.

And can someone explain why that bottom bezel is so freaking huge?? Thats inexcusable in 2016.

I'm glad there are other premium options, I was playing with a co-workers Huawei P9 and liked it a lot, the Xiaomi Mi5 and the new models look amazing, there's always Sony and obviously the One+ phones.

There are plenty to choose if you're not an fan of Samsung/Apple/Google.

My hopes in order:

- Android Police was fed bad information, phones are actually $400 and $500 respectively.
- Reaction to leak make Google realize it was a bad idea, changes course and reprices phones to above and plays it off like it was never going to happen any other way.
- Google releases phones at $650+, massive failure, re-evaluates strategy next year to value conscious consumers.
- Google releases phones at $650+, massive failure, Google shutters hardware division because they are clearly incapable of producing anything compelling and not overpriced.
- Google releases phones at $650+ but there was enough hidden between project Tango camera, SD card, dual sim, user replaceable battery, wireless charging, daydream headset, Play store credit, and and no questions asked 2 year warranty that it just happens to be worthwhile.

It has nothing to do with Google pricing and everything to do with them wanting it to be on a major carrier.

We saw the same thing with the Galaxy Nexus. When they foray into major carrier territory they have to price accordingly. The Gnex bombed harder then normal. I dont know why they didn't just wait to transition to Pixel until they made their own phone and not reused an HTC A9

I hope the bolded doesn't happen. While Google's hardware is far from perfect, I hate most hardware put out by other OEMs.

I'm not disagreeing that carriers are the problem with everything in the phone market, however, Google choose this path despite plenty of hindsight from early Nexuses, HTC First and Fire Phone that carrier exclusives drive up price and are are wildly unpopular.

Will be gettin the smaller Pixel no questions asked. Moto X 2014 is startin to get long in the tooth, battery has been shittin out for a while now. Mostly satisfied with what I've heard about these Pixels, especially the exclusive software functions like swiping down on the fingerprint sensor to open the notification tray, and double-tapping the screen to wake up the active display. Only thing I'm really missing is wireless charging.

So I photoshop the iPhone 5 and 6 next to the pixel phone. You guys aint kidding it looks exactly like an iPhone 6 without the button.

Look forward to iPhone button sticker on ebay you can put on this phone.

I wonder why Apple has such large bezels? Considering how cutting edge they are with design and other parts of their phones the bezels seem much larger than they should be.

The Pixel phone's bezels looked bad enough, but compared to the iPhone's they are tiny.

From a different source, but yes.

This reinforces my belief that this phone won't be worth the hype Google is trying to give it.

Aside from the assistant, there are no noteworthy features about this phone.

"Google Photos (free unlimited storage at full-size!)" This is pretty good for Pixel phone owners.

I'm liking google Allo, but we can download it on other phones. So I hope there are other exclusive content on the phone. I'll probably pick it up as a backup secondary device (iphone 7 plus main phone).

Super excited to see if there is more to the phone.

Currently have a S5 which is barely chugging along and will soon be getting a work provided S6 or S7.

To replace my personal device, considering this new Google Phone or S7.

Outside of these two, any recommendations on the other Android phones? Never even looked into the Sony offerings. Worth it?

Home button + symmetry.

The full size photo storage is cool, but not worth $650+ IMO.

Don't buy from Sony if you live in the US, plus their hardware has been lacking compared to the competition.

The S7 and S7 edge are great if you don't mind Samsung's bloat.

The HTC 10 has good reviews, but try and get it on sale if you can.

I've heard good things about the LG V20.

Meg dosint matter how it looks, all my time will spent station g st the screen, large portion of people are gonna out a case on it.
1 software
2 reliability
3 battery life
4 looks

I'm super excited for this. I've been using Samsung phones for a bit now (On a Galaxy S7), but I'm really hopeful that I'll find a non-Samsung bloatware phone that works for me.

Not thrilled with the looks, but Camera + Useability are more critical to me.

my nexus 6 is getting long in the tooth so my biggest disappointment is how small these things are. i don't really care that they're ugly because it's going directly into a case.

Fuck man. Verizon is the only retail partner -__________-

I wanted to get this on T-mobile...

I really need to replace my Nexus 6 lol

Wha..?

Why would they do that?

I'm on Project Fi so if I get one of these I can probably finance it through them, but seems crazy that they wouldn't put it on any other carriers if they want it to be taken seriously.

Wait what?! Those pics are real?

I've barred an eye when people say some Androids look like iPhones. I say they are all just black blocks. But this, this looks JUST like an iPhone, holy shit.

In practice, larger equally-sized bezels could be nice when you're using the phone in landscape mode, particularly when playing games. It'll also push the phone content universally higher in portrait mode, which is both good and bad, since it'll be easier to reach the lowest items (like the main system buttons) but harder to reach the top of the screen.

That's really the only practical minus to the bezels, I think: pushing the top of the screen further away from your thumb in portrait mode. Which is why I'll be getting the regular size, not the XL.

They could've put speakers there in order to make use of the space, if that was the goal.

I need that bezel to hold the phone in landscape mode securely when using one hand; so ya I like having that bezel. Having capacitive buttons would be nice when using it in portrait mode but it gets in the way otherwise so I have it turned off on my wife's One+ anyways. Don't really care for front speakers either because guess what, my fingers cover it up when using it this way...

Not very impressed, but as a Nexus 6 owner looking to upgrade on Project Fi, I don't have many more choices.

I love my $20/mo bill, but really wish the experiment could be expanded to other handsets.
