I need that bezel to hold the phone in landscape mode securely when using one hand; so ya I like having that bezel. Having capacitive buttons would be nice when using it in portrait mode but it gets in the way otherwise so I have it turned off on my wife's One+ anyways. Don't really care for front speakers either because guess what, my fingers cover it up when using it this way...

That's why they need stereo front facing speakers.

Camera specs don't look good compared to everything else that came out this year. Why does Google always have to lag behind in this area?

Think this leaked screenshot suggests that the phone has built in finger print sensor on the screen? Note how the unlock icon has a finger print icon...?

Or is that just typical design language used throughout the OS?

It's already confirmed to be on the back of the device, like last year's Nexus devices.

The thing about the huge bezels is that they're going to be even worse thanks to on screen buttons.

Yeah, that looks bad. On-screen buttons are puke anyway, especially on AMOLED screens since you have that portion on the bottom where the pixels are off all the time so the rest of the screen wears out faster so after a year or so you can faintly see the bar whenever you do anything fulscreen like videos or games. It annoyed me so much on the 6P. Lovely phone otherwise but I really don't want to do on-screen buttons again.

*also: The bottom and top bezels really are humongous if there are no buttons or speakers on them. Looking forward to official announcement to see exactly how Google is going to sell this

649 dollars!!

You phone people are grade A crazies.

$649 used to be on the cheap side of unlocked phones. You know how much an unlocked Galaxy S7 Edge will run you? See!

Only reason folks are balking at this price is because of the Axons and OnePlus' showing it can be done cheaply. And of course, people expecting google devices to be 'cheap'.

Ultimately I think it boils down to Sony wants you to order millions of sensors before they give you a good price and the Nexus/Pixel phones just don't sell enough volume where they can order millions of sensors. This is probably why only Apple and Samsung can get the good Sony sensors, and of course Sony Mobile themselves.

Not a fan. As a Nexus 6 owner, I was looking into upgrading to something new. This doesn't seem like a fit for me. Oh well.

there's nothing else unfortunately. even if the note 7 wasn't exploding I don't want Samsung's crapware. the most important thing about my nexus 6 is having a stock phone that gets immediate security updates.

The 6P's camera was one of the best that year.
And was the only Nexus phone to be that good.

Still does have a great camera, even one year on. And this one will have OIS. Specs are what I'd expect of a Nexus device, they are high end with the exception of wireless charging and waterproofing.

The big improvement needs to come in battery performance. That alone will swing it for most people, it's going to be interesting to see what impressions are like when we finally get the thing in the flesh. And that blue....

Drove by a billboard in Palo Alto that had a huge image and said "Introducing the Google Pixel only at Verizon"

It's like they don't even care about the reveal anymore.

The difference is that Samsung's phones have features that justify the price.

A custom launcher and unlimited photo storage ain't worth the premium price.

I really need a new phone and really wanted to get note 7 and I can't wait few months till they fix this mess. I may get this Google phone depending on tomorrows news.

not very exciting.

but we really need more technical details. battery life and camera quality are probably the two biggest things for me personally.

Yeah, those are not really big features to me either, but at least they're there, in a phone you could probably find online for cheaper at this point.

my nexus 6 is getting long in the tooth so my biggest disappointment is how small these things are. i don't really care that they're ugly because it's going directly into a case.
Aren't the 6 and 6P basically the same? People are saying not to upgrade. I'm on a Nexus 6. I'd like to get the next version of this phone, hopefully they make a bigger one.
I just noticed they have an XL version. I'd get the next one of that next year.

Definitely not the same. The 6 is bigger, doesn't have the same camera or build quality. You want a phone with a bigger screen? You'll be getting a tablet my friend. The Pixel XL will have a smaller screen than the 6p.

So if this does end up being expensive as fuck, where do Nexus users go? The N5 was pretty much the perfect phone to me. I don't need to drop a few extra hundred for what amounts to minor perks.

Wait for the next Moto G if you need CDMA. If you want GSM then there are a bunch of China phones.

I have a 6P and am planning to get the smaller Pixel. I want to get a smaller device. I might get a Galaxy S7, but we'll see what tomorrow has to offer. I am happy to pay a premium for not having TouchWiz on my phone and for faster updates.

It's not a world of difference, but the 6P was a strong upgrade in all the essential ways, build, camera, display, perfomance, etc.

sigh
well that's fucking disappointing
i would have considered doing an installment plan (i have at&t)

i still don't understand how google is going to compete with samsung and apple without having the phone available in every carrier store
most people don't buy phones

How does that support your argument?

My guess is Google doesn't want bloatware on their phones anymore, and Verizon was the only carrier to agree. Apple did a similar thing with AT&T after they bought Singular.

Dont understand the bezel hate, i like the big bottom bezel

It serves no practical purpose. Other phones have buttons, fingerprint scanners, and speakers. As far as we know this does nothing at all.

I can rest my thumb there tho

I don't think most people do that very often. I personally grip the sides when I hold my phone.

I just wish it actually did something. I love the speaker on my 5X and am disappointed they aren't continuing front facing speakers.

Ah cool, that'll make my upgrade even better. I'd like my next one to be just as big or close to it. Not bigger. I'd be ok with 5.5

Pretty much. I think for the iPhone/Galaxy market Google is trying to target, they won't care about the rumored price at all since it matches what they are already paying. The problem for Google is letting these people know that their phone actually exists this time, because they won't be able to depend on the "people expecting google devices to be cheap" Nexus fans based on the reactions in this thread/online.

Can we expect Android 7.1 this week? I'm hoping they fixed the battery bug.

No shit. If I could mental deal with spending the money I would already have moved to an iPhone after what 7.0 did to my 5X.

7 hours of battery life on a 15 min charge. damn that's nice.
The 5X and 6P already have rapid charging. My 5X normal charges in an hour. I just have to keep it plugged all night cause it will lose 60% now with the last OS update.

Considering phones sales have hit an inflection point and more of the losses are at the high-end this would be a really stupid strategy. There's a reason Apple made the SE. The reason people pay inflated prices is because of brand (why else would any rational person keep a Note7?), Google doesn't have it and it's not going to gain it with ho-hum releases (though if they did have it this sort of coasting would probably work).

Really? How common is this? My 5X has been great since the update.
