I love Google Music but the biggest pain for me is when listening to a generated playlist/radio, they play the censored version when the uncensored one exists.

Eh 15 bills a month?
Nah that's okay, my girl can keep her free spotify radio.
Family Plan is now active (as of yesterday). I just upgraded.
I got Google Play Music when it came out and pay $7.99 a month.
Though with the Family Plan deal, if I upgrade, I lose any deal I had. :/
Family deal should be $1 or $2 off a month for grandfathered accounts.
I don't like other people having things I have, though.I've already upgraded and while I miss it, it was a hell of a savings for the length of time we had it. I mean, now it's like getting 6 accounts for the price of the grandfathered 2, only everyone is eligible for this deal.
Someone convince me to change from Spotify to this? Spotify already has the leg up with student rate @ $5 (which I pay).
Compared to Spotify, Google Music:
has better integration with Android (OK, Google, play XYZ...)
lets you upload 50k songs to the cloud and stream them (useful for rare tracks/music that isn't on the service)
But the biggest advantage, by far, is that YouTube Red is included with the subscription -- ad-free YouTube.
Still, if you're only paying $5 for Spotify, it may not be worth it to switch.

So how does the Family Plan work?
Like do you just add other google accounts as ones that are authorized,
or do you have to add the account that Google Play Music is under to their device?
You can keep your deal. Or you can upgrade to the new deal. Why do you deserve something special that is not offered to anyone at all?
You add other Google accounts. I just upgraded from the individual plan to the family plan and added my wife and two sons. Everyone essentially gets their own library of stuff to add, their own playlists, etc. Except instead of four people paying $9.99/mo, there's one charge of $14.99 for all four of us.
If you already have Play Music, check your settings. It should say something about being in the individual plan and that you can press a button and go through the super easy process of upgrading to Family and adding members. There are also a couple of tutorials out there. I will say that I had to do it from my tablet because apparently it wasn't setup to do from my laptop when I upgraded on Saturday.
Sometimes companies do things for users that have been supporting them from the start.
Still going to get the family plan though.
Ahh ok, Thanks! Hmm...
Will probably cancel my current plan and move the family plan to another account then.
Or can you change which becomes the primary account?
When it 1st came out, I created another google account that was only for Google Play Music.
Reason, is that if I left it logged in at a party or something, if someone decided to check the e-mail or other stuff, there'd be nothing there.
Also, if i had a tablet set up with it in my media room, that anyone could use it without me having to worry about privacy.
Well, you have up to six accounts you can add to it, so maybe keep your primary and add that 2nd account as one of the ones that can use the family plan. Maybe?
Can family members make purchases, or can you lock that down?
When I set mine up I believe I gave the ok to purchase through the credit card I use for the monthly billing. I mean, basically I want everyone to just stream, not buy.
I don't remember if there was an option in there to turn off purchases for individual accounts, though. Sorry.

Hmm. It looks like the family can purchase. I might have to delay enrolling in this for now.
I wonder what their incentive is, though. Netflix doesn't care who you add as a Family Member no matter where they live. Certainly, there have to be a lot of families who don't just want the trouble of having to deal with their children purchasing content, reversing charges, and so are opting out of this until that option is available. They do that to disincentivize Internet friend sharing, I guess.
No that wouldn't be net neutralitySpotify keeps running up my data on Google Fi, does All Access get a data pass on Project Fi?
If it helps, I use my Google Wallet card and never have anything more in there than whatever I need. I have pre-set account transfers to make sure there's enough money in there for subs like this, but it never has anything in there unless I transfer something just before paying for it.From what I've heard, it's possible to use a Visa prepaid card as the default payment for a family account. Granted it's not the most ideal solution but putting something as simple as a $5 prepaid card and reloading it as needs arise could be an alternative.
I'm noticing that a ton of my albums are listing duplicate songs.
Any way for Google to find all duplicates and remove them? There's too many to do manually.
i kinda use youtube music app since when you pick a song it curates some relevant songs. but my goto is still the google play music app.
it isn't blocked but it still happens, oh well =/
I just got an iPhone 6, and it's not playing nicely with Google Play. I previously had an Android and it worked great. Now when I play music the app just quits. I think it's because it's been put in the background and the process is killed... but it shouldn't be, right? If I start a song and turn off my screen, I won't make it through the song before it stops and when I reopen the app it's like it's starting again from being completely closed (it doesn't remember where I am in the song). What's up? :S
Disappointed that Paul Simon's new album isn't on Google Music or Amazon streaming it seems. Bummer.
The algorithm probably sources from community suggestions, likes, and other meta information and a large enough number of people may listen to the radio edited version of the song rather than the original... unfortunately.
So I started my free trial of Google Play Music last week and I am absolutely loving it. My family has been on iTunes since 2004 and we moved over to Apple Music when it launched. In theory, it's a great service. Keep your old iTunes library, add any music you want from the "Apple Music" library to your own, etc. In practice, it was a total fucking nightmare. Combined with iTunes match, it basically fucked up my entire U2 collection, taking songs with the same name in different albums (studio/live/single release, etc.) and overwriting them. I had custom recordings that I had uploaded to iTunes that are now completely lost because the song titles were the same as a studio cut, and it just plays that instead of the actual live version. I don't want to spend too much time shitting on Apple Music, but between the complete destruction of my U2 library (something very important to me) and the absolutely horrendous desktop and mobile apps (Android especially) I was ready to move on.
Over the last few days I've been brining over as much of my U2 library as I could, combining it with what was available on Google Play already. I was amazed at how easy this whole process was, especially with how much control they give you over the metadata for songs and albums. I was able to split single/b-side releases out, add the appropriate cover art and year, order the tracks appropriately, etc. It's amazing to have just a little bit of ownership over your music with these types of subscription services.
Anyways, that was a bit longer than intended but I just wanted to say that I'm really pleased with the service and will probably be keeping my subscription. Does Spotify allow this sort of customization of your library, even for songs you don't "own" or have uploaded? It's still $5 cheaper, but if I can't get the same level of ownership over my library then the savings don't really matter.
How are the curated playlists on Google Play music? I didn't use the "New" section of Apple Music too much, but I do love their A List Alternative playlist and "essential" or "deep cuts" playlists for artists. I've only done a bit of exploring in this area of Google Play Music.
And finally, is there a way to order albums in your library in chronological order on the mobile app? It does this on the desktop client, which is great, but I'd like it on mobile as well. Is there a setting for this that I'm missing?
Roger that, I'll keep an eye out. Uploaded a bunch of live stuff today with identical titles to album songs and so far things are looking good. Amazed at how easy the whole process is... throw a new folder in the Music Manager's destination and it's uploaded in a few minutes. So good.I feel you on the issue of your personal music. I edit a LOT of my musical library. Shorten intros, fade songs out early to avoid overly long outros and even lengthen songs here and there. For the most part tagging the music differently from the original is enough to get GMusic to upload MY version and not overwrite it with the official track which is annoying.
I do have to warn you though. I have ran into a single instance where it didn't work, and it replaced my track with the official version. I had to right click the uploaded track and click "Improper Match" or something so that it forced it to upload my custom version of the song.
That happened like once so far though out of dozens of songs.
TLDR: Its great but not perfect.
