Maybe this is old news for everyone else, but I found this Chrome extension that adds a bunch of neat features to Google Music. Some highlights include

- Dark theme
- Ability to change accent color
- Widened queue list
- Hide unwanted menu options

I don't hate the default orange, but I like having options! Very slick extension.

Hope this doesn't sound too sales-y.

Cool. I'll check it out. I have Music pinned to my laptop browser so it'd be nice to have some options. Thanks!

So I just got an SD card for my phone and have it formatted to portable storage. Have Google Play Music storage device set to external with about 50gb free. Every time I try actually downloading a playlist for offline play I'm hit with a message telling me there isn't enough space to download the music. Even if I wasn't trying to download to the SD card I have plenty of internal storage available as well.

Anyone know what the deal is?

Anyone else having any issues getting the app to open, before? I went to listen to some music today and all of a sudden, randomly, the app just sits on the logo and loads seemingly forever. It was spinning for 15 minutes before I decided to clear cache/data. Still nothing. Rebooted. Nothing. I try to uninstall updates and it gets stuck uninstalling forever.

I just wanted to listen to some Tegan and Sara. ;_;

Can't say I've had this issue before. :/

Out of curiosity, where were you? I went for a walk earlier today and had the same problem. It looked like I was at the limit of my wifi from my house and the songs that kept spinning were ones I had just added. When I switched to songs that had been in my library for a while, I had no problem.

Midwest USA. It's working now, actually. I just let it spin for what felt like an eternity and it eventually opened. No issues since. Weird stuff.

It looks awesome, it's using all the features from Google Music, has a recommendation service and is obviously going to work anywhere and on anything[/

Apple music is the GOAT

Did you really (fail to) quote a three year old post to say "Apple music is the GOAT"?

Sorry, I meant where were you in terms of connectivity to your wifi? Were you on the edge of wifi vs. 4G? That was where I was, sort of right in between and oddly new stuff I had recently added would just spin while older stuff I'd had in my library for a while worked fine.

Glad it's working again.

I have the latest update and now it seems like I can only play one Podcast in the queue?

Before it queue up all of the Podcast's episodes you have available. But now it's only one? Which is bullshit if you have a long drive commute and the episode is only 24 minutes. You'd have to manually fiddle with your phone.

Anyone else getting this trouble?

Really google?

Anyone else pissed the regular Google music widget is gone?

The one that showed your last 4 albums listened to in a 1X3 format, and now the only widgets left are an ugly one with function buttons all over it and the shuffle widget.

That thing was a big part of my home screen and I loved the way it looked.

Love this way more than Spotify. Might need to stop mooching and get back to the superior music service.

Can I ask what you prefer about Google Music over Spotify? I am a very happy Google Music subscriber and have been since the service launched, but GAF seems to overwhelmingly prefer Spotify over other services and I never understood why. For me, the killer features of GM are being able to upload my music and getting YouTube Red with my subscription. I don't care at all about Spotify's social stuff, but I assume that is the main draw for most people.

If that's the widget I think you're talking about, it's still available. It's not a Google Play Music widget. It's a Play Store widget. It's called My Library and it lets you pick between music, books, movies/tv, etc. And as far as I know, it's always been a Play Store widget.

How do I get it back if it doesn't show up in the widgets?

It kept losing functionality, at first clicking on an album from the widget would no longer open it, and I'd have to always press "My Music" to open up Google Music. Then the album artwork just stopped loading and I ended up with a big black square on my home screen, I thought deleting it and adding it again would work but it's not in the widget list.

Hmmm, seems like the widget is bugged or something. It's not opening the music app when I tap on albums either. Only my music.

Edit: It still shows in the widget list for me under play store.

I don't even see a play store section in the widgets.

Thanks for your help regardless, that was indeed the one I was looking for but I completely forgot it was from 'My Library'.

I wish Google would actually create a better music widget then, the one they have is ugly.

Yeah, sorry I couldn't help. What launcher are you using?

I like the look of the music widget because it has a small and large layout. I use the latter since you get a big album art image and controls below.

Edit: Googling around I see something about widgets not showing up for apps that are installed on an SD card. I'm not sure the play store can even be installed to an SD card.

I'm using the same one you're using now, expanded into a big square. I prefer the cleaner look without the controls always on top, and I never make use of them anyway since I always just use the drop down controls if I want to change or pause.

Uploading the music was huge for me too initially. But also I really just prefer the UI, there are some really strange design decisions where it took me a long time to figure out how to navigate the app and I still feel like I'm doing it wrong sometimes.

Also you know how Google Music lets you differentiate between Play Next and Add to Queue? In Spotify you either play the song now or you add it to your queue. And if you hit a song in an album that you want to listen to then it only puts that individual song at the top of the queue then goes back to whatever you had there before. Basically as a guy who listens to entire albums I feel like the service wasn't designed with me in mind.

So this is a new one: I was looking for the Baby Driver soundtrack this morning (saw the movie last night and it is great). They seem to have the album on there, but it's only three tracks. BUT those tracks are numbered 28-30. I looked elsewhere and confirmed that the full album is 30 tracks. I haven't seen anything like this before. I sent them a help request about it.

Saw that too. Thought maybe the rest was just locked until tomorrow or something.

Has anyone had a problem where you download an album but when you go to play it locally without an internet connection some tracks still don't play? I've had it a few times recently. I've tried deleting the download and redownloading it, but it still happens.

Really miss the "experimental" visualizer they used to have. Tried looking for Chrome extensions to replicate it but they're all shite 😞.

it happened to me once I think, did you modify the tags (album title/tracks title)?

This has been happening to me forever. I find if you play the playlist by hitting "back" all the songs will play. So play a song, then instead of hitting forward to the next song hit the back button. No idea why this fixes the issue.

Glad I'm not the only one who hates the New Release section here. Every Friday I go to it and I'm just like "...this can't be everything". I like that they give you the option of searching by genre, but the main page doesn't seem great at picking out the highlights. I also hate how many of the new releases are just singles. Those should be put into a separate category.

They do this sometimes, but it's usually rights issues. Robert Plant's latest solo album had only the first song available for a long time (and still might). I think it's up to the label/artist whether the whole album is available for streaming or not.

That's happened to me with playlists but not albums.

I eventually just got a unlimited data plan on t-mobile and now just stream everything.
