Google Play Music All Access

I can't get google music in my region, so I have to ask just in case it comes later. It might be obvious, because everything from google is a browser thing, but... Is this a desktop program or does it run in a browser?

Spotify has become shitty and is getting worse every update since the beginning of 2013, main cause being that Spotify's slowly moving away from the native client and replacing it with web based crap. I'm running good old native versions of Spotify right now but it seems they're making some of them not work. I'm guessing Google is not going to save me and all streaming services are going to be web based.

Yep, web-based for sure. I've been using the previous version of Google Music for some time now, and it's always been that way. Highly unlikely they would ever consider a desktop app.

Have you found a way of fixing it?

No, definitely no way to do that within the mobile app from what I see. What I'm going to try after work is deleting the album(s) on my google play account, messing around with the files on my computer and then re-upload them. Problem is I don't know how to upload individual tracks/albums, only my entire collection. I really do not like this separate Music Uploader (or whatever it's called) program you have to use to upload music.

This interface is horrid. I like Spotify better.
It's kind of weird but Spotify is still far and away the king of horrid interfaces.

New versions in particular, where some parts are grey and then sometimes it's half white (the web parts are white). Spotify's old version interface is great and I don't see any reason to complain about that one.

I have always fixed this issue by going to edit track/album info... make sure the years match, track numbers match, album artist, and artist match.

Hit save, refresh. Tada! (it's a pain... i agree)

The only thing that tops my list of things they need to change or do something about is shared accounts. My GF has a S4, I have a Note 2, and I use web while at work. Our music collection is massive, and would be a pain to manually go and put on her computer everytime I get a new album. In the past with iPods we always just used my iTunes to manage our devices...

currently we both are logged in with my gmail. but if we're playing at the same time, it will randomly pause between songs and say that we can only playback on one device at a time. Drives me nuts, and there is no way around it besides two accounts. They should let you pay an extra $4 a month for multiple user access, and allow up to 2, or up to 3 devices at a time.. or just make it work at no extra cost for a couple devices.

I know I'm not the only one with this issue with their significant other, or children based off a google search on the subject.

It all matches and it shows up fine in the browser but it shows up twice in the Android app. Each album lists a different artist, and both albums in the Android app are the full album. I'm at a loss on how to fix this. I guess I can try giving both an Album Artist even though all the tracks are blank.

:( no good. I haven't run into that yet.

the only other thing I've run into that people have mentioned is the picture of the artists don't always match the artist.

being that it's day 2 of a huge service being rolled out, I'm not complaining about something that small.

I rehauled my whole music collection because of that, used TagScanner and found some inconsistencies between Album Artist and Artist metadata entries that no longer cause problems for me after uploading it to Google Music. Editing it in the web player wouldn't fix anything until I retagged everything myself and reuploaded it to GMusic. So something must not be matching somewhere.

no crossfade?

Weird that I'm streaming only, zero uploaded songs, and it let's me edit the song info (artist, track title, album, etc.).

Any way for my keyboard "Pause" button to actually pause Google Music in Chrome? I'm on a Mac.

I've got worse problems. I've got an album that shows up under a single album in the browser but it's split into two albums in the Android app.

I misread your post, my situation was a bit different, an album was split between two albums in both my browser and android app. I was able to fix it by messing around with the track info, and it automatically combined them into one album. I then went to settings on my phone and pressed "refresh music" and that fixed it.

space. but you have to be on the tab

yea that sucks. If you are in Photoshop and want to Pause, gotta switch to Chrome, and then get into the correct tab.

Maybe put Google Music fullscreen in it's own Space? I've never really use CMD+Arrow Key to switch between spaces, but I think I might give it a shot.

I just noticed that the Unified Remote android app supports Google Play. Works really nicely. Really a very handy app to have, by the way and worth paying for the full version.

I wish it didn't make all my explicit music edited and it would have a feature to update album art automatically.

It still does that?! Unless there was an option thing that I couldn't find. People were having the same issue with iTunes Match. Why do these music services seem to think edited "clean" music is or should be default?

? Weird. My explicit music just says "explicit" next to it.

There's an option to "Fix Match" if you right click or select song options. I think that's the only solution for now. There is a "filter explicit music" in the Google Music app settings now, so I imagine they actually have explicit versions of whatever music they sell.

Is there any way to differentiate between your uploaded music and subscribed albums that have been added to My Library?

I haven't noticed. I think once you add it to your library, it's pretty much considered your library. If you have your own tracks pinned locally but not the radio-obtained tracks, then you can differentiate them instead by changing the "All Music" type to "On Device."

The mobile app is leaps and bounds better than spotify.
Being able to add things to my library and having it organized by artist on mobile is a god send. A million times better than spotifys playlist system.

The Velocity Ultra soundtrack is now available on the Google Music Store. Just grabbed it with All Access. Anybody know some other game soundtracks that are on here?

Just uploaded my songs to their cloud streaming service, and it censored all of them.

Fuck you Google. WTF? Is there any way to fix this, I don't see any settings for it in the app or on the website.

You right-click on the song via your PC and select "Fix Match"

they still don't have the selection. Hopefully its a ramp up to fill some of the gaps

I just tried the app on my Xperia Play with 2.3, and it force closes every time when I try to open it. Still works find on my S3, but it's unfortunate that it doesn't work on my XP when the previous Play Music app worked fine.

Also, it REALLY needs the ability to delete songs off your library. It's seriously insane that you can't.

You can do this from the desktop, but your point still stands: why is such an obvious feature missing from the app?

Yeah considering Google keeps trying to dissuade people from file managers and SD cards, removing the delete option from the app is just dumb.

Yep. And I told Spotify as such when I cancelled my account yesterday.

Never had spotify, or any music service before trying google play, and i'm in love. Maybe it's just the type of media in general, I think i'll just stick to google play instead of branching out.

With this subscription are you able to download songs to your computer and manually put them on other devices?

Yeah this is annoying as well...

Canada's access to the digital era of music is pretty bad. At least we have iTunes and rdio... but they need some real competition. Come on Amazon, Spotify, and Google!

Yeah i really wanna cancel spotify but google is missing a few things here and there. /:
Edit: I forgot I had a year of Sony music unlimited too. I think between the three services I have most of the music I could ever need

I did a system restore and now Google Music crashes every minute, no matter what I'm doing, no matter what app I'm running.

I've tried several complete reset/restores and the issue still occurs.

Anyone else have this problem?

I have been using this for a few days and it is fantastic. I am really, really impressed. It just works really well and the selection of music is a lot better than any similar services that I have tried. The Android app is also excellent.

Yep. I'm probably gonna stick with GPMAA (ha) over Spotify. I know I've seen some people saying the selection isn't quite there with Spotify, but I haven't found anything missing that I listen to. Guess it just depends on your music taste.

I just need an iOS app and i'm subscribed past the trial.

I'm a bit fucking annoyed with buffering issues. It doesn't matter if I have the HQ mode checked or unchecked. It buffers every 15-20 seconds. I have Verizon 4G and on average have speeds of 20mbps down.

I also find that when I pin an album to my device it takes almost an hour to download on 30-40mbps down wifi, and up to 3 hours on 4G (at 20mbps down). Prior to all access being released I never had any problems like this.

I have a friend who ditched spotify on his motorolla, and went all access and he is having the exact same issues.

It's unusable in this state. However, if I tether my 4G connection to my computer, desktop mode works perfect with 0 buffering issues.

Maybe verizon is throttling you?

Maybe verizon is throttling you?

I don't think that's what it is. Desktop mode via tethering works fantastic. Plus I'm not on the unlimited plan, and those are the only plans that are supposed to run into throttling issues.

Plus that wouldn't explain why Pinning songs doesn't work very well on Wifi or 4G.

edit:
I also didn't have this problem prior to All Access being released.

Can anyone that has/had a Zune Pass compare the selection? Worse? Better?

How does it compare to spotify?

I can't compare on Zune, but the collection is bigger than Spotify from what I can tell.

Google actually has some major artists that Spotify seems to lack, such as Pink Floyd.

Anyone else think it takes forever to download songs for offline play? With spotify it would only take seconds for a song, with google music it takes way longer.

Ya, it does. I'm amazed at how slow it is. I also noticed streaming uses a ton of data. I streamed for about 45 min today and it used up over 300 mb of data. That seems pretty high to me.
