Google Reveals Pricing for First Stadia Games

Red Dead Redemption 2 from Eurogamer.

Again, the obvious takeaway from Stadia is that despite a 4K output from Chromecast Ultra, the game itself is rendering at a lower resolution. It took a bit of effort to figure out what's going on, but the evidence points to Red Dead Redemption 2 operating with an internal pixel-count of 1440p. Again, we'll be looking at the specific visual feature set of the Stadia port in future, but first impressions suggest a good level of similarity in terms of specific settings with the Xbox One X version. Meanwhile, the Stadia port of RDR2 also seems to be running at the same 30 frames per second frame-rate as well. It's Red Dead Redemption 2 in its entirety, it plays well, and even with the existing, very large latency built into the game, there are no issues whatsoever in progressing through the game via the streaming platform.

Buahahahaha. They must think the gaming community are chumps.

They are late to the party seeing what MS is introducing with xcloud/GamePass and albiet what Sony has available with PS Now.

That's a damn shame. In my opinion, this was Google's time to shine. Your server instances (supposedly) run at 10.7TF? They should be able to handle this game at 4K / ultra settings.

What a fucking joke, i have to buy a "console" and then i have to pay 10$ service and then i have to pay full price for games just to stream, oh wait i still have to pay more money for my internet provider to get better internet LOL

i hope this shit crash and burn fuck this streaming future, Sony save us with PS5

You think Sony isn't doing streaming?

I'm more concerned with GameSpot's review-in-progress noting the clear video compression. What's the point of ultra settings at either 1080p or 4k if it still looks like watching a YouTube video?

I just saw that destiny 2 runs at 1080p upscaled to 4k and at medium settings.

Google, go home. You're drunk.

Edit: Oh my god that gif... and some of you people said it would be acceptable lag... Bwhahaha...

Well, they did say it's the future... Never specified how far into the future.

Nobody should be surprised at this. At all. Tech is not there yet. Unless some new distruptive technology comes along, the experience just won't be the same. It might have it's own advantages but it can't compete to local rendering solutions. Simple as that.

This applies to any streaming based gaming service.

Alot of ppl were trying to tell others thy were crazy for criticizing the lag after the preview event where ppl posted Twitter videos of noticeable lag and compression at times. Just basing their optimism on some shill previews. You had real ppl Posting videos. Some ppl are just pseudo know it alls and love to lap PR bullshit up. There is no way on earth this will ever be better than traditional gaming.

I actually hope this fails and Google abandons the whole project.
The people who bought software won't be able to play any of the games they bought. Hopefully people will then see the dangers of a digital only future.

LOL at the full price for most of these.
Boy, I can't wait to overpay for a bunch of games over which I'll have even less ownership than I have for most of my other digital media.

It's not a matter of how far in the future. What people do not get is that future does not mean "utopia". In this case it just means "dystopia".

I must admit I've found the Stadia hate boners to be way over the top and unwarranted up to this point, but the revelations of this comical pricing and their tentpole releases being inferior to the console versions (LOL upscaled 1080p) now have me squarely on the side that the lambastings didn't go far enough. This is a 100% Grade A certified dumpster fire of the highest order.

At least you are man or woman enough to admit it. Some naysayers aren't dogging it due to blind hate but seeing through the pr bs and remembering the tweets from many ppl tht tried it at their event showing lag and compression issues. Plus of course this horrid pricing model.
