Do you really believe that you can convince us an 800 up front cost, and a monthly fee tacked on, will somehow save us hundreds of month in games. Dude, putting aside the notion that somehow we spend enough each month to save hundreds of dollars on games, have you seen the launch lineup? How can you save hundreds a month with a 12 game lineup? Pretty much all of which can be bought cheaper somewhere else.

The $800 includes the fee.

Stadia will have access to dozens of games, and all of them will be running at high settings you can't get on consoles. You'd have to spend a lot more to get the same performance on a gaming rig.

Right now most Stadia news being parroted is coming from gaming press with bad reputation. Don't you find it funny that coverage some months ago was positive, but now the same press is trashing it? Google will make things more clear before launch, give them some time.

Lol

I've always said that IF Google pulls this off, it will be amazing.

While impressions have been mixed regarding the latency/lag, the fact that the games don't look any better than Xbox or PS4, then even I'm out.

Google promised games with the highest fidelity because they have the most powerful hardware on their servers so to under deliver on this is bullshit. I was expecting (hoping for) RDRII to be similar to PC on max settings!

Game pricing is not great either, but the Founder deals make some of them tolerable.

I'm still interested but they need to improve on so many fronts!

Yes... but Chromecast has basically no processing power at all. It's just a display device for a stream. So why would you need a +$800 PC for good Stadia streaming?

I know you won't have a rational answer, but I'm quite enjoying this.

I don't understand your confusion.

If I have a 720p 2012 laptop and Stadia is streaming a 4K game, it won't be 4k on my laptop because it's not capable. The hardware you're streaming to will effect performance.

Google announced they are working on a beginners guide that will explain everything in layman's terms to get more people to jump on board. This way everything becomes clear about what the service can actually do and what the strategy is. I'm sure many here will change their minds once they have everything in front of them.

I think you misunderstood what they were saying.

Chromecast can stream 4K movies and apps, but it alone can't stream games in 4K. The servers at google streaming the game to the Chromecast are what make 4k/60fps happen, not the Chromecast alone.

Then why in the hell are they selling a chromecast ultra and controller and saying "here's stadia!"? You can get a free version later @1080p or stream 4k games now for more $$$. And don't even tell me they didn't advertise it that way.

Well of course it wouldn't. But if I have a mom-n-pop $300 PC with a graphics card able to output 4K via HDMI or whatever, it should be able to do so, because it doesn't do anything else than decode a stream. Which basically any GPU can do nowadays no matter how potato the computer is. Yet I'd need a +$800 PC for... what?

I get the feeling like the people in charge don’t actually shop for video games. They shouldn’t charge you for the quality. We spent 59.99 on 360/PS3 games and XBO/PS4 game(s). If anything these game(s) should come at a reduced price. We all paid that much on launch (that’s the first couple weeks or the first month) or some of us had discounts of $10 off. It’s like a brand new car. Take it off the lot and it’s value goes down significantly. You can always buy it later for a reduced cost. Those game(s) aren’t exactly brand new.

I bet it loses money for the first couple years. It’ll have to survive the next couple years and Google will have to pray that someone else makes a mistake for them to gain headway.

What a fucking joke, i have to buy a "console" and then i have to pay 10$ service and then i have to pay full price for games just to stream, oh wait i still have to pay more money for my internet provider to get better internet LOL

I don't think it is going to fly, but let's be fair here, you do not need to pay 10$ for play at 1080p (resolution at which most of the gamers still play).

And if you are after 4k, your savings on PC will justify spending $120 a year for subscription.

Why are you confused? You need the Chromecast to bring the stream to your TV.

I'm watching the Giant Bomb quick look at the moment. Jeff is playing Mortal Kombat. He mentions how he can perceive the heaviness in comparison to how he usually plays on PC. Also he mentions that when sitting up closer to his monitor, he notices the visual artifacts from the compression. But, he says the tech works and that the latency wasn't really that bad.

Then there's that gif from the Washington Post guy. Clearly, neither person is lying, and that might be the problem the service has. Two people in two different locations have completely different levels of playability.

No you only need an above average PC. This would cost you no more than $800, less than the phone you likely have in your pocket as we speak. You can then stream in 4k/60fps without spending hundreds in hardware upgrades. In the long term it saves you a lot money. If you purchase the pro membership you save even more money since you can save hundreds a month on new games.

Sell me some of your drugs.

For all that, you could buy an X and a Pro with Gamepass and PSnow subs, with instant access to literally, hundreds of titles.

I hope you can't drive because you are dangerous levels of stupid.

If we're being totally fair, what percent of the 1080p gamers will have to pay their ISP at least $10 extra per month to stream at 1080 in playable form? To be clear, its a question at the moment. I assume most reviewers are trying to play primarily in 4k since there is no free option to try yet.

"Google Stadia. Bringing people together. Closer to Google datacenters, because you're basically boned otherwise."

Eurogamer was caught streaming to sub-par hardware. Let me know when one of these gaming journalists has issues with top-of-the-line machine.

If you try streaming graphically advanced games to toasters you're going to have issues. Your HP pavilion from 2012 isn't going to work with Stadia on high settings. It will work with low settings at 720p however.

That isn't what people are seeing.

Initially, Google told us that it was using the highest-resolution, highest-fidelity build of Destiny 2 available. But Bungie later confirmed that our eyes weren’t deceiving us. “When streaming at 4K, we render at a native 1080p and then upsample and apply a variety of techniques to increase the overall quality of effect,” a Bungie rep said, adding that D2 runs at the PC equivalent of medium settings. That explains why the Xbox One X build, which runs at a native 4K and with higher-res assets, looks so much better than Stadia.

You know, I've never heard about traffic capping in any part of Europe, but I keep forgetting it's a thing in US.

Lots of misinformation here.

These prices are no different than what you would see in your favorite consoles digital store.

The difference is I can stream 4k/60fps on a compatible device. Your consoles won't ever hit this performance target even after developers get used to the hardware.

If you have an above average gaming PC, you will be paying for a pro membership and will enjoy streaming Stadia games at 4k/60fps, instead of paying $400 to upgrade your graphics card and $200 to upgrade your processor.
Are you drunk ?
Theres is no good spin to this, games are expensive that you don’t own, latency is a thing that rears it’s ugly head on too many occasions, random drops where the game just stops working uses 20GB of data an hour streaming at 4K and if you have caps....... game selection is horribl.
You can defend it until your blue in the face but stop lying to people saying it’s a great deal it’s really not, anybody with half a brain can see it’s not .

Once things kick into gear I'll be showing off Stadia games on proper hardware compared to their console counterparts so that people understand why proper hardware is important for Stadia to work at highest graphical settings.

I really can't explain it better than I have in writing since many people here are confused about how the service actually works, but once you see it for yourself I think it will click with you. Not all of you, but some of you.

I'm not talking about just data caps. General speed and congestion will be an issue, I believe, during peak hours and or when others are using internet.

So why is what they said is a 10.7tflop machine running Destiny 2 at 1080p with medium settings? It makes no sense.

The whole point of Stadia was you did not have to buy hardware. Just a run of the mill modern TV boondangle, a cell phone, tablet, or pc. I'm enjoying the ride in this thread, but you cannot possibly justify the business model by telling us why we need to buy an expensive console, I mean PC, to enjoy a console free experience that is better than consoles.

You know, guys/gals/whatever, I've missed moments like this. We can get all too buried in our own console/PCMR trenches, there's the daily outrage over something (anti-)SJW, games we are supposed/not supposed to like, all that. It can seem quite negative at times.

But I'm glad we as a community can come together, and poke fun at a complete failure of an product (and few fervent fans). It makes me happy.

This is it and I don't understand why this guy thinks the whole community is confused.

Only if you have a fast and stable connection...if not you play with a visual of the 360/ps3 era
Why someone with low internet Speed have to skip the next gen consoles for stadia? Not for the 10 teraflops becouse you can't use It at all

Nah. I mean, maybe in rural areas. Not where I live.
Then wherever you live must have great service. I live right smack in the middle of a small city 5-10 minutes (without traffic) outside a major city, and most residential consumers get their internet service from cable companies. And yeah, you pay more for higher bandwidth to reduce congestion withing the home, and the peak speeds are mostly targets with actual speeds varying over course of day. I thought this was par for the course with cable company internet, which is what everyone I know has. Even business class is often via cable companies.

Unlike traditional games, buying a game from Stadia requires ongoing maintenance by Google. Data centers take power, A/C, etc and have a pretty hefty overhead. Whereas your PS4 copy of Assassin's Creed Odyssey will boot right up on your PS4 3 years from now without any additional effort on Sony's part, Google has to make sure the resources are available for your to do that with your Stadia copy if you decide to launch it sometime in 2025.

These were always going to be full price, anyone who thought otherwise was fooling themselves.

With this logic, shouldn't be the games more cheaper?

Where are people getting the side by side xbox/stadia comparisons from?

EDIT: Found it: https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2019-stadia-tech-review

There are a few positives coming out of the article. Basically, Stadia is the best streaming solution to date, but as most people thought, the infrastructure is just not ready for it yet.

And what you lose in precision detail and latency, you gain in convenience. Load up Red Dead Redemption 2 or Destiny 2 in parallel with their console counterparts and the reduction in loading times alone is tremendous. Meanwhile, just to get the comparisons in place for this article, I've had to leave my Xbox One X downloading overnight a couple of times to access titles that can have storage footprints in excess of 100GB. Put simply, instant access to anything and everything in your library has enormous value.
