Google/Youtube buys out Twitch

Oh boy, as if Twitch didn't already have issues.

Google's first order of business will probably be to shut Saltybet down or something!!!

Is this for real? How are they going to mess this up, I wonder.

Let's remove all videos that feature any video game not authorized by IP owners.

Oh yeah. Saltybet confirmed dead. Twitch Plays Pokemon? Dead.

It only goes downhill from here. YouTube has been butchered by them.

I used to be able to watch every video from my favourites and likes, but now likes are cut down to 200 max and favourites no longer exist but in some hidden playlist.

I sub to a bunch of twitch channels, and they're all worries about this, especially if the supposed less money from subs is enacted.

Twitch, we hardly knew ya. RIP

Man I really need to start making money off the internet. How hard is it to setup a streaming site? Are the majority of the costs related to servers?

Exactly. I feel these buyouts are grossly overpriced.

Does anyone believe that Twitch is worth over 1 BILLION DOLLARS?

Hey, the previous owners are probably laughing all the way to the bank. Also this was posted on gaming side

Twitch streaming is shit. Maybe now we won't have to deal with the 3 minute delay.

I switched to Hitbox.tv for this very reason. Twitch streaming just has way too much delay to really have an interactive experience between streamer and viewers.

Still, don't like big G snapping up every little company that gets its own way.

If what's app is worth 19 billion, I don't see why twitch wouldn't be worth something either. It has a growing and dedicated fanbase. Makes sense to me.

Why are people complaining about this?

Lol.
Because YouTube has been a piece of shit lately and then there's the whole thing about publishers making a fuss over posting games on YouTube. Now that'll probably carry over to Twitch.

As someone not from the US, I fear region blocking will fuck me over.

Again.

Makes sense for Google, makes sense for Twitch. Not that I would trust Google with more video streaming.

Anyway start up culture and overreliance on 3rd party services. Great in the short-run, bad in the long-run.

Can't publishers already mark parts or all of games as non-stream-able from PS4/XBO?

Publishers are obviously fine with the built in streaming services, they sign off on just about everything the console makers do.

Seams dramatic to assume that because Google bought them we'll suddenly see Twitch be more restricted.. Content ID isn't something Google WANTED to implement they were required to do it to not be sued out of existence after Viacom went after them.

And if game publishers are pissed off at Twitch they would be able to fuck Twitch over easier than they could Google. The legal power behind Google >>>>>> an independent company.

This is my fault. I finally relented and created a second G+ account in order to comment on a Youtube video the other day. Obviously it was the final piece to the puzzle so they could take over Twitch.

And what was content? Ripped scenes from movies and TV shows?

I realize not everyone is a fan of watching older sporting events, but prior to Google's takeover I could watch almost any sports event I wanted on YT and it was glorious. Now that stuff get's taken down immediately, it really sucks.

I can totally see this being an issue.

Because Google ruined YouTube when they bought it.

While I agree, I think that purchase came with its drawbacks and its upside. I think people exaggerate the downsides though lol.

I miss when everything was its own entity.

That was never a thing, bud.

Anyway, Youtube bought a video game streaming website so it would be nuts to think they'd screw themselves over and remove all content.

Erm, Google? Do you think they just blow that money for the hell of it? It's not like any research goes into it or anything..

Big companies eating up smaller apps/companies.

Wonderful.

/sarcasm

Welcome to capitalism. You can go to North Korea if you don't like it.

I hope gaming companies follow the track music outfits did with regards to reuse of content.

Recording industry earns more from fan videos than from official music videos

I remember there was a period in 2007-2008 where every fucking thing got flagged and blocked because record companies went "i r good with computar!!" and ContentID just launched and they just used it to take everything down.

Then in like 2009 they woke the fuck up and realized there was a bunch of money to be made by letting these videos through.

I think that very shortly, gaming companies will realize the same thing. Especially with Twitch being integrated into PS4 and Xbox One.
