Plastic Beach on Wikipedia

Plastic Beach is the upcoming third studio album by the virtual band Gorillaz, due for release in March 2010. The album features guest performances by Snoop Dogg, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Kano, Bashy, Bobby Womack, Mos Def, Gruff Rhys, De La Soul, Little Dragon, Mark E. Smith, Lou Reed, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon, sinfonia ViVA and The Lebanese National Orchestra for Oriental Arabic Music.

Albarn said in an interview, "I'm making this one the most pop record I've ever made in many ways, but with all my experience to try and at least present something that has got depth." He added, "I suppose what I've done with this Gorillaz record is I've tried to connect pop sensibility with ... trying to make people understand the essential melancholy of buying a ready made meal in loads of plastic packaging. People who watch X Factor might have some emotional connection to these things, this detritus that accompanies what seems to be the most important thing in people's eyes, the celebrity voyeurism."

The first time Albarn went to Mali, he was taken to a landfill where he saw people "taking every little bit, a little bit of fabric to the fabric regenerators, or the metal and the cans to the ironsmiths and the aluminium recyclers, and it goes on and by the time you get to the road, they're selling stuff."When Albarn went to a landfill outside of London to record the sound of seagulls for the album, he noticed a juxtaposition between the way the two countries dealt with rubbish. "They've got more snakes... like adders, grass snakes, slow worms, toads, frogs, newts, all kinds of rodents, all kinds of squirrels, a massive amount of squirrels, a massive amount of foxes, and obviously, seagulls. [...] This is part of the new ecology. And for the first time I saw the world in a new way. I've always felt, I'm trying to get across on this new record, the idea that plastic, we see it as being against nature but it's come out of nature. We didn't create plastic, nature created plastic. And just seeing the snakes like living in the warmth of decomposing plastic bags. They like it. It was a strange kind of optimism that I felt... but trying to get that into pop music is a challenge, anyway. But important."

I've only listened to Stylo, Rhinestone Eyes, and Welcome to the World of the Plastic Beach. Which is already way too much. I'm now on a self-imposed song blackout until the album drops. I've got Welcome to the World of the Plastic Beach on perpetual repeat, though. Totally love it.

Stylo trailer looks amazing in Hd. Can't wait for the video.

Is there gonna be an explanation for how the characters transferred over to our world, into 3D? I know it's a conscious choice by Albarn and Hewitt or whatever, but is there gonna be a story element to it?

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
Those covers instantly reminded me of Beyond Good & Evil. Therefore, they're amazing.

Loved the first single, didn't like the second one at all. Also hated the HD trailer of Stylo, art is just awful. Then again Stylo was such a wonderful song that I'm expecting great things from this album.

Wow, I will enjoy the fuck out of these songs when I am high.

Not that I don't already, but while I was listening to them that was the first thing I thought :lol

Demon Days was so good high. Dunno what was wrong with the other thread.
Been pumped all week. No interest in the special edition. If it came with all the videos on DVD I'd buy it but I'll pass. The adventure game sounds fun but it probably won't be that good.

Been looking forward to this for a while. Demon Days was great, and I find myself still listening to it at least once a week. The snippets of the new album sound pretty good, but I have a feeling it will grow on me like the other two did.

Only two more days :D

Oh...my god.

I looked up their original album and listened to some of the songs...I haven't heard "Clint Eastwood" or "19-2000" in YEARS. My mind is blown right now. So good. SO good.

Yea, real surprised there isn't a continuation of the Clint Eastwood songs.

Kinda disappointed. :-/

Can't wait to listen to this tomorrow. NPR.org will have the full album up for streaming. Should hold me over until the disc on the 9th.

I've not really liked a Gorillaz album since the first, but I keep buying them. D=

I remember loving the first singles off the first album, never did buy the 2nd album even though I liked two songs off it. I have this love/hate thinig for Damon Albarn and his work.

I actually don't think I like anything off the second album that much, and I still bought the LE version AND the LE version of D-Days.

Ordered the Experience Edition myself, mostly having been convinced by the currently sectioned-off Plastic Beach point'n'click adventure game online. Awesome stuffs.

... also finally bought D-Sides, G-Sides and Laika Comes Home. I'm going to build to the album's release with a complete Gorillaz binge.

I think the first album was the last time I was completely in love, but I do admit that hearing Del or Automator on anything nowadays would probably be a disaster. Demon Days was sorta hit and miss with some (obvious) highlights. Damon Albarn still appears to be letting his producer just come up with random "in the moment" guest stars. You've got your UK rapper (Kano a little late), your eccentric soul pick (Little Dragon) and some some nods to legends like Lou Reed, The Clash, The Fall, and Bobby Womack.

Like most super group/collaboration announcements I am sorta shocked out how awesome this all sounds. Especially because I grew up loving these sorta things. Just don't expect anything consistent or balanced. I expect a few good singles and some great videos.

I'm really excited for this. I'm a big fan of whatever Albarn does, and the guests on this album are incredible.

Rhinestone Eyes and Superfast Jellyfish > Stylo.

Was anticipating Welcome to the World of the Plastic Beach because of the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble but it wasn't as good as I was expecting.

I can't wait for this album, I hope it's as good as the other two. As an aside, are there any other bands that are like Gorillaz? And are there d-sides and stuff albums any good?
