Hope your plans have worked out M night!

Still gotta wait til mid december till I can see them ;_;

Chicago show was good. We had bad seats near the rafters where people were blazing up. I didn't necessarily mind, but my GF got nauseous after a bit. A lot of fair-weather fans there too, but I still had a great time nonetheless.

An aside to NE-Illinois GAF: are your highways eternally under construction? Seems like I-94 has been worked on since 2000.

Do Gorillaz ever release a Live CD or anything like that?

I listened to them do Rhinestone Eyes on Letterman and the live instruments took that song to new levels.

Not a CD, but they released a DVD of one of their five Manchester shows back in 2006. It covered Demon Days in its entirety plus a few older songs and a lovely B-side by the name of Hong Kong.

The Glastonbury show was taped in HD for the BBC. It's around.

Dunno about anything official though.

Except for Feel Good Inc. unfortunately. Given the music-festival feel to this tour, I'd be amazed if it hadn't been filmed at some point.

Feel God Inc is on the DVD I have?

Anyways, when Gorillaz performed at Roskilde Festival 2010 in Denmark, it was recorded by Danish Radio and Television, and they will be airing it soon in HD. So that might also get out there at some point.

Chicago concert was amazing. Can't believe they played 'Punk' from their self-titled album. That was an unexpected treat. Our seats were great, they are 6th row and a little to the left. I have some great pics that I snapped that I'll put up sometime tomorrow.

On a side note it was my first time being in Chicago and it is an amazing town. I feels like I saw so much in the span of 3 days. I would love to have the opportunity to live there one day.

1. Your avatar kind of scares me :lol
2. concert RULED! I didn't expect the brass and string ensembles, that was just the icing on the cake of the epic lineup, and great performances all around. Me and a friend had pretty good seats on the side of the mid-section, but the gigantic hanging speakers ruined the view of the projector so we just moved back-and-center.

Either way, it had the sweetest ending ever! I don't know how you can possibly top closing a concert with Demon Days with everyone singing along. A bunch of us were just yelling "TO THE SUUUUN" after getting outside :lol

My tickets for the 14th of November London concert just arrived. Transport, accommodation and female date also sorted.

I'm now officially letting myself get excited.

Massive apologies for the triple post, but it's worth the bump. The video for Doncamatic is now out at http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=107026564. Daley came out on Sunday and performed with this video in the background. Was splendid to be able to finally put a face to the voice.

The gig itself was incredible. Little Dragon and De La Soul made incredible warm-up acts and the Gorillaz set itself overran by a healthy amount. Damon is such a dream-boat. Had my moment of Phonomancery when 'To Binge' was played and I held my date close. Beautiful moment. It ended with Don't Get Lost In Heaven/Demon Days which was a wonderful way to close proceedings. Not entirely sure how any other event could compete. Only song that I felt was missing was 'Pirate Jet', but that song probably has bad memories of Glastonbury for Damon so maybe he just skips it.

One moment of worry - after the typical fake-end/encore setup, Bobby Womack came out for 'Cloud Of Unknowning', but he was accompanied by a very concerned guy in a trenchcoat who seemed to be there to help Womack walk straight and steady. I know he's a diabetic, but he seemed to sing as powerfully as ever, so I have no idea what happened there.

So my copies of the Doncamatic single just arrived via post. CD B-Side is a remix of Doncamatic. Vinyl B-Side is a remix of Empire Ants. I don't actually have a vinyl player.

Is anyone here a member of vinyl-GAF? Can they recommend the cheapest-way-that-won't-sound-terrible into vinyl equipment?

Hey, I'm in the exact same position. Bought the single bundle, wouldn't mind a way to play the vinyl half. If not I'll put in on the shelf; I love random collectibles.

Edit: I listened to the empire ants mix though, not a fan :/

Gorillaz performed some songs on BBC radio, here is an excellent cover of The xx's "Crystalised."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CrahuW5fsc&feature=related

I believe they performed Doncamatic and On Melancholy Hill as well which should be featured on the side of the page on youtube.
The cover of Crystalised was fantastic, but I didn't like those versions of Doncamatic and On Melancholy Hill. They were kind of neat in a "hey it's really stripped down!" way but I think the songs suffered for it.

I noticed nobody has really bumped this thread with concert impressions, so here are mine.

I saw Gorillaz at Vector Arena in Auckland this Tuesday just gone, and it was spectacular. Flew up with my flatmate, who isn't the hugest Gorillaz fan but he really enjoyed it. Was a little bit late seeing Little Dragon, but what I did see was great, really would like to see them do a whole set, they were really good. I'm not a huge hip hop fan, but De La Soul were brilliant, really great crowd interaction and a fantastic warm up act.

Gorillaz opened with Pirates Progress, with a video of the PB island off the cover which was pretty sweet, then straight into Welcome to the World of the Plastic Beach with a great video of Snoop Dog projected on the massive screen behind the dimly lit band. Straight after Albarn came out and smashed Last Living Souls, one of my favorites from DD. Throughout the rest of the concert there was a constant barrage of video projected above the massive glowing GORILLAZ letters. There was a steady mix of all 3 studio albums, and I'm reasonably sure the setlist didn't change a lot from concert to concert, but it was truly great to see what I can safely say my 2nd favorite band in the world play. The New Zealand show was the last stop in the tour and everyone was hugging and congratulating each other and Albarn said it was terribly sad that this was the final show and the last time they would be performing these songs together, he even went so far to say that this was the last Gorillaz concert full stop, but I don't believe a word of it. Gorillaz will be back.

Here are some shots of the show I took:

Video for 'Phoner To Arizona', from The Fall

Electronic droning that's going to get stuck into your head. Doesn't sound very 'Gorillaz', but these things can only be judged once you have a full album to listen to anyway.

Sub-division members get to download the album tomorrow, as opposed to just streaming it. I give it twenty minutes tops before that hits torrent sites.

I think it sounds like Gorillaz during their debut album era but Gorillaz doesn't really have a definite sound.

Also, it's being released 1 AM GMT which is 5 PST/7 CST/8 EST so in less than couple of hours from now.

Not something you could describe with a sentence, but they've always gravitated around dub (debut album era, and this most definitely is not dub) and hip-hop. Rock, pop and dance influences abound, of course. I dunno. Even their most out-there songs usually have Albarn's 2D vocals to gel it with the larger Gorillaz identity, but this particular track doesn't fit any previous Gorillaz reference point in my mind.

However, as part of a whole album it might be a focussed meditation on sounds brought up by previous tracks that do hook onto previous Gorillaz reference points, so as part of a greater whole it might very well end up sounding Gorillaz. It just doesn't right now, to my ears.
