Lovely album that gets better with each listen, as a fan I'm extremely satisfied. Got my copy of the Experience Edition in the mail today, can't wait watch the DVD later at home.

This album is really awesome. I've been listening to it everyday for the past week, and I'm loving it more and more. "Empire Ants" and "Broken" are fucking beautiful, "Sweepstakes" and "Superfast Jellyfish" are fun, "Some Kind of Magic", "Rhinestone Eyes" and "To Binge" are great, and "Stylo" grew on me to the point that I love the music now.

But "On Melancholy Hill" is supreme.

Not enough love for White Flag and Sweepstakes, goddammit. It's a close race for my actual favorites though, the album works so well as a whole.

I'm a big fan of White Flag. Do you know of any artists/groups that have a similar sound to that song?

I also like them both. Actually, the only song I don't care about in this album is "Welcome to the World of Plastic Beach".

saw the gorillaz live last night, and besides the serious lack of Dare on the setlist, pretty awesome concert.

Most (if not all) of the album has grown on me but my favorite song is still Empire Ant. I was wondering who Little Dragon was and after looking them up, I ended up finding a new group to add to my favorite bands.

Everyone, please check out Little Dragon's other albums, Little Dragon and Machine Dream. They are such a talented group and they are currently on a US tour!!!

Started listening to the album again recently and I cannot agree enough. Her voice is sublime. The second half of Empire Ants is pure ecstasy.

NA tour. :D

Madison Square Garden is the only show announced so far, but I had a little birdie tell me that they'll be playing the United Center in Chicago as well.

I've been waiting ten years for this. Bought the fan club sub so I can have first crack at tix. No more Stylo car unfortunately but you get a lithograph.

Sweet!!! Palladia plays their concert from Brooklyn and it looks like an awesome experience. Hopefully they play around Pennsylvania.

So, don't remember if I posted in this thread already or not, but Plastic Beach is something I had to hear a few times and hear played live to properly evaluate. With the benefit of the live versions and perspective, my favorites are:

-Empire Ants, especially with Paul Simonon's more emphasized live bassline and the strings. It's epic and makes me wanna get my groove on and has great lyrics.
-Glitter Freeze, which RULED at Glastonbury. Mark E Smith is hysterical.
-Rhinestone Eyes, which has brilliant lyrics, a seering melody, and none of the gimmicks Gorillaz can be bogged down by
-Some Kind of Nature. That's a real grower. I used to not like it but I can't remember why.

Anyway, the live shows are way better than the album. More dynamics, fuller sound, more guitar, less tinny synth, and just something much more grand and spectacular.

By the way, how is it that Mick Jones from THE FUCKING CLASH is in the live band, but some douchey looking kid gets all the leads and Mick just gets clangy little rhythm parts that are mostly useless?

On Melancholy Hill is one of the weakest songs on the album.

White Flag should've been a single. The intro... the rapping... it's perfect. They're crazy for not making it a single.

On Melancholy Hill is my favorite song on the album. White Flag is one of my least favorite.

Funny little world, huh.

I was just thinking about bumping this thread, actually.

I was listening to this last night after not having heard it about a month or so, and man, do these songs get better every time. I probably enjoyed about 1/3 of the album when it was first released, but now, pretty much every song is a joy to listen to. I really used to hate Glitter Freeze and Sweepstakes, but now I can't stop listening to the damn things! :D

BTW, it's been 5 or so months now. What are everyone's favorite songs for this? Have your opinions changed?

I think I've really become the most fond of Broken, Stylo, Empire Ants, and Rhinestone Eyes.

Can't say I really disagree, but it's still a good listen.

Really love the album. What's funny is my GF kind of kijacked it from me. She loves Empire Ants (her fav) and Broken among others. She loves the whole album in general and swiped it from me.

Good thing I ripped it on my iPhone.

To Binge and Empire Ants followed up by Plastic Beach are my favorite songs. Glitter Freeze and Rhinestone Eyes get honorable mentions. I find myself skipping Cloud of Unknowing a lot though.

Looking at the Glastonbury set right now and it's killer. I would love a set like that. I would like them to throw in a D-Sides track though. We Are Happy Landfill would make me a happy man.

God, I'm in total hype mode now for the tour. I might just drive to any gigs within a reasonable distance.

The thing that sucks is that there's no way Mark E Smith or Lou Reed or Snoop Dogg - three of the highlights of the Glastonbury show, which was all recorded in high-def for BBC and is a must watch - will show up to any of the US dates. Smith because he can't be fucked, Reed because he's insane, and Snoop because he's too busy getting high and getting laid like crazy.

I thought it was awesome that they played Monkey's Head, but that struck me as a one-off.

I wasn't so impressed at first, but this has become my favorite Gorillaz record.

Same. I gelled instantly with Demon Days and their self-titled album, but this one took some warming up to. Surely enough, for the past week this has been playing in my car non-stop on the way to work and back.

And fuck yes for the tour. I will drive, ride horseback, or hitch a ride in someone's trunk if it gets me to Chicago.

Listened to this album a few times. Drive a lot and my uncle lent it to me. My favorite part was on track 6 (tastes JUST LIKE CHICKEN) and my favorite track was 7. Pretty much everything 7 and after felt really different from the first 6 tracks, aside from Sweepstakes.

I'll just repost this for the new page.

Exciting stuff. I'm definitely going to the Chicago show, but I might drive to Detroit and see them there too.

I've been listening to this album since it was release and I enjoy. Some stand out tracks for me(other than Stylo) are Empire Ants, Broken and Rhinestone Eyes. Empire Ants especially...I played it some many times.

Not a single date in the southeast but 3 dates in Texas and a date in Detroit? WTF. I've been pissed about this all day. I'm going to fly from Atlanta to Chicago to go to this shit and I'm mad about it.

Plastic Beach, Broken, Empire Ants, those three tracks are the type to lay on your bed, and listen to while pondering the universe. Sooooooooooooo awesome.
