Got PSP Yesterday

The problem with this argument, which is always the problem when relating the handheld industry to the console one, is that handhelds are portable while consoles are not. Nobody is going to lug their massive Xenon from one place to the next to get their portable experience - they're either going to get DS or PSP. It's that simple. So while certainly the visual luster will lose a bit of its charm after the Xenon/PS3/GC rush it'll still be a major factor in determining which portable someone wants since it offers different opportunities. Gaming on the Go!

First off, I've always maintained that both PSP and DS can and will co-exist in the marketplace because they offer completely different ideals.

I know that comparing the portable to console industry is apples to oranges, but we have to admit at some point that the PSP is trying to bring over the console consumers to the portable side. Sony is targeting the PS2 consumer, trying to get them to purchase the PSP. All I'm saying is there is no guarantees in regards to sales next fall if the Xenon is launched. It could take some of the spotlight off the PSP. Nintendo was smart to release the DS and have this Christmas season to themselves. Why is it so hard for some people to admit to this? (not you, Amir0x) :)

3D is...is evil? Revelation!

Anyway, I hear Ghargav and Vampire Chronicles looks absolutely delicious on that screen.

Yes, I said delicious. Like you can almost eat the images off the screen! With a fork!

3D isn't evil but it is clearly inferior to 2Ds oldschool goodness. :D

I am sure the PSP would be the ultimate 2D machine, but I have no faith in Sony to push for that to ever happen.

I wonder how a super powerful 2D only console would do if it was released today?

Yeah, but there's no guarantees even if every company just said "Nah, I'd rather not make any consoles. This generation marks the end of videogame consoles!"

What I'm saying is that connection is speculative at best because no matter what Sony is trying to draw in there has always been cross over, just as there has always been consumers independent of each other. This is not going to change because of the Xenon, is all.

Conflicting cognitions: cognitive dissonance
Once two cognitions are held and there is a conflict between them, one falls into a state of cognitive dissonance. This may be demonstrated by someone purchasing a brand of washing machine, initially believing that it was the best product to buy. One's cognition is that a good washing machine has been bought. However, after the purchase, one may be exposed to another cognition informing one that there is a better washing machine out on the market (for example, through an advertisement). This then leads to an imbalance between cognitions and a psychological state which needs to seek consonance between the two cognitions.

GBA spent its three-plus years on the market serving as a portable SNES. It sold millions despite the fact that its experience wasn't anything new or groundbreaking.

It is ridiculous that people can manage to twist the fact that PSP offers the PS2 experience into a bad thing :lol

Yeah, I got a chance to play the PSP too, and it kicks the crap out of the DS. If it wasn't for the announced Final Fantasy III on the DS, I would trade it in, but I might as well own both. At $50 dollars more the PSP is going to own the DS, Nintendo gambled and lost. The worst part for Nintendo is they aren't going to be able to top it down the road with a better Game Boy for the money(Sony will just drop the PSP's price). Sony did it right, and that's not something Nintendo's had to face before in the handheld market.

Agreed. You would think comparing a handheld both in terms of technology and gameplay to the best selling consoles in history (PS1/PS2) might constitute something good.

But not in GAF's psycho metaverse.

I Love nintendo.

BUT

Someday they have to learn that:

KICK ASS BEAUTIFUL hardware that is powerful and has some really good games, with some kick ass games in the pipe>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

>>x 1,000,000 the plastic brick called DS, regardless of what it plays, inlucluding "innovative" games. The touch screen is kind of fun, there will be some games that use it well. But I will have a PSP with a 1G duo stuffed with movies and music, and I will likely buy >100 games for the beast in the first 3-4 years. For the DS, I want Advance Wars and Wario, and... uh,... oh yea most of the good Nintendo stuff.

Nintendo is in deep ship here. In trouble on the console, and Sony is going to step all over them. Quantity will not be an issue. They have made almost 200 MILLION consoles in the last 10 years. They know hardware production.

Damn, I can't wait for the PSP to ship, meanwhile, my DS sits there, gathering dust kinda like my GC is now, and my N64 did last gen. Dust gatherer between the best 1st party games.

Only prob this gen, the 1st party games don't come often enough and don't feel as good as they used to.

Why Nintendo why.

Ridge Racers is a gem, clearly one of the best in the series, but that doesn't make it a flagship game. Really, with all those PSP titles in mind, Wario Ware still wins.

Ummm...Wario Ware Touched is ass compared to the first GBA Wario Ware.

I thought it might be the best launch game (US/JP) until I got mine...maybe the DS killer app is Band Brothers. Maybe. I haven't played that yet, though :p

Uh... how do you know that there will be more than 100 games you want to buy for the PSP? I mean, the PSP is a great system, but I can't even think of 100 worthwhile games for the PS2... what the fuck...
