So, this is the deal a day after.

Although there was some possibility we will get to know some solid info yesterday due to massive revelations of various content and details, that didn't happen. Curtains have been kept shut almost perfectly.

However, what we DID learn for certain is how we've actually witnessed an actual glympse of upcoming clarity and flamboyance, without any idea about which platform or generation are we actually staring at.

What we know is how wait for introduction will not take long actually, June is the month.

What is not know is potential "Spec 3.0" release for GT5, because there is no info about it whatsoever.

So, we have seen the few seconds of the future, but we don't know what, when and where the future will actually persist.

Inter-dimensional philosophical vagueness. As always. Well. At least we know it will be spectacular.

My biggest question is will the base of GT6 be built from GT5 or from scratch? Kaz says he starts fresh every time but could he break this trend with GT6? I speculate that GT6 started as and was originally intended to be a PS3 project but then moved to PS4. Did PD dump GT5 (obviously keep some assets) and start new or are they trying to "port" "GT6 the ps3 title" to PS4?

From my understanding, GT5 is the base form GT6, thus making it much shorter time to market.

1. The Online Dealership prices appear to have doubled. Were they discounted for the month of December, or is there another reason the prices have been raised?

2. I've tried winning both the A-Spec and B-Spec Historic Racing Cup with the Toyota 7 Race Car and the Jaguar XJ13 Race Car yet cannot defeat the Chaparral 2J on Cote D'Azur. I'm comfortable with both cars on the course, but stock I am afraid neither can keep pace with the Chaparral. Should I upgrade my cars and try again?

3. I have only purchased a handful of cars from the Used Car Dealership, but after looking over the Prize Car list it seems I could have been patient and won them all. Are there cars only available via the Used Car Dealership? I understand credits are plentiful completing Seasonal Events with a 200% daily bonus; I just want to be certain I am not purchasing a used car I could otherwise win.

4. Regarding tires, is Hard less than Soft or is Soft less than Hard? I'll see descriptions like "Sport Soft or Less" and do not know whether I should be looking up or down the list of options on the Tuning sheet. Often I need to buy specific tires for one particular race and I would prefer to purchase the cheapest option just to fill the requirement.

1. It was Hollyday Special, both OCD prices and prizes (in Seasonal Events) are back to normal

2. Chaparral is beatable by Chapparal. You will lose your mind with other cars. Get a LV21 ticket (or whichever Lv Chapparal is) and refresh it until you get a Chapparal (reload usb backup of save with unused LV ticket until you get desired car. Can be boring process but Chapparal is among the rarest cars in UcD/OCD by great margin)

3. All "standard" cars with exception of those obtainable as Prize cars are available only through semi-random cycles of the UCD (with selected offer of the OCD). You should google "GT5 car list" and cross-reference your progress. I suggest you the list from the official page, it is visually good and contains up-to-date info.

4. Soft is better than hard (strange, huh). When it says "or lower" it means "or harder compoumd".

so I just bought GT5 today yaddy yaaddy yadda and 4 hours later I'm still waiting to play. LOL

Yeah... I remember when I first loaded GT5... was taking a looooooooooong time. I think several hours. I quit the process and hooked up the PS3 via ethernet. Took less than an hour.

I'm struggling to comprehend how some still expect GT6 to be a PS4 title.

Feels like some are purely taking the absence of an official PS3 title/date announcement as evidence of a PS4 release - while ignoring the many fiscal and historical factors pointing towards a PS3 release.

I don't see how people still think GT6 is coming out on PS3, how could they possible improve it enough over GT5 to warrant another installment? Maybe if they've been really forward thinking they'll release a cross platform GT6 in ~3 years on PS3/PS4, but I REALLY fucking hope the next GT disk release is GT6:prologue on PS4. 50 cars, 5 tracks (~10 variations + day/night/weather). That's all I want.

Its time to take sides.

You're aware that the PS4 will be out in the next 12 months right? You're aware of how much selling power the GT franchise has, right? If they release GT6 on the PS4 they will move millions of consoles.

I can see a Spec III for GT5, and it would be the smart thing to do at this point, coupled with some more DLC car packs, but to devote more time and effort to a title of GT's caliber for the PS3 would be am astronomically idiotic move on Sony's part, especially when PD's development moves slower than glaciers we wouldn't see GT7 on the PS4 for years.

Just opened up this game and started playing it.

I love it.

The presentation is just....mind blowing. I am not a racing game type of guy, but I constantly am thinking about the game when I'm not playing it, haha. I am going through the licenses right now and trying to get AT LEAST silver on everything. I finished the first two, a and b, and got silver on everything with a few golds here and there. International licenses seem harder, so I stopped because I really wanted to start playing.

One question though, I am driving automatic with a dualshock 3. Should I switch to manual and learn with that?

International C license, double hair pin on Indianapolis in a Nissan Fairlady. Any tips? Been having some success throwing the car into the corners then edging onto the accelerator but it feels like maybe that's the wrong way. Every time I try to take it neatly my ghost gets ahead. Two hundredths off the silver.

Am I noticing different menu music at different times of the day? Feels like it's more mellow at night.
Manual will help you achieve faster times, so go with that if you're able to get comfortable with it.
I'll give it a go too before I get too accustomed to automatic.

I have been practicing with it. (Sorry for my crappy jargon, but I know close to nothing about cars).

My main problem is downshifting. Like, I'll come up to a turn, and the car will be like "yo, you should be in the second gear for this turn" and I'm like "Ok car, no problem!" and I'll downshift from 5 to 2, and the car is all like "omg you are killing me".

Yeah, I know nothing about cars. I wish there was a GT tutorial somewhere for manual.

some notes on Indy from a better GT-er than myself from one of the GT5NRL races. It's not using the exact same car, still 370 though.

Some tips:
-Trail brake hard into the first corner but do not be stupid and hit the tires.
-Turn 3 to 4 approach is very difficult. You must approach wide and get the car turned in.
-Full throttle until T6
-T6 is a like T1 at Laguna. Double apex. Make sure to stay on the left when approaching T7.
-DO NOT HIT THE YELLOW PAINT ON T7!!!!!
-Approach T8 so that you can take 9 coming from as far to the left is possible.
-Coming through T9 cut to the inside on T10 and full throttle out.
-T11 is a very slight brake down shift, cut as much as possible or just avoid the curb. Hitting it directly will cause a sloppy exit if you have a stiff and low suspension
-T12 can cause problems for your speed on the straight. You can't just take it. Keep this in mind when setting up a pass. Pass after T12, not before.

TheSeks

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
-You need to be on the outside of the corner and turning in on Turn 3-4.
-Full acceleration/gas on Turn 6
-Turn 6 is like Turn 1 at Laguna Seca. Make sure to stay on the left for Turn 7.
-DO NOT HIT THE YELLOW PAINT ON TURN 7
-Approach Turn 8 so that you can take Turn 9 coming from as far to the left is possible.
-Coming through Turn 9 cut to the inside for Turn 10 and full acceleration/gas as you're coming out of Turn 10.
-Turn 11 is a very slight brake (down shift while doing this), cut the corner as much as possible or just avoid the curb. Hitting it directly will cause a sloppy exit if you have a stiff and low suspension
-Turn 12 can cause problems for your speed on the straight. You can't just take it. Keep this in mind when setting up a pass. Pass other cars after Turn 12, not before.

Dunno on the first one.

That one was an absolute bitch to gold. I ended up dropping the TC to 1 or 2 and basically drifted the corners.

My suggestion would be for you to pick a slower car and take it to something like the Nurburgring and just do a few laps on that. Then work your way up to the faster cars. It's one of those things that'll take a little time to get the hang of, but once you do you'll never want to go back to automatic. It'll just start to feel natural.

If they release GT6 on PS3 they'll already have a user base of 70+ million. And they won't take a hit on every console sold at a loss.

But they are doing it. And they are still doing it more than two years later. Every update free-of-charge. So why invest (and continue to invest) all that time and money into a product without getting any sort of reasonable financial return?

Customer satisfaction and loyalty, which translates into money in the long term.

GT3 launched in the PS2's first year, sold 15 million copies.

GT4 was superior in every way... but it sold 30 percent less.

If gaming side is to be believed, the PS4 is coming very soon. GT6 will not be a PS3 game.

Spec III however, may still be possible.
Release 5-10 tracks, and 20-30 cars as DLC and sell for 20-30 bucks.

I hate to say this, but I'm kind of hoping GT6 doesn't do anywhere near as well as the past titles, just for the sake of getting Kaz and team in the mindset that what they're doing isn't what's needed in this gaming era. Half-assed vehicles, touted effects that appear in only a few situations, extreme padding of vehicle and track figures and a very lackluster DLC release schedule really make me not even want to support GT6 or PD at launch like I have for past generations. PD really needs to adapt to survive and it's sad to see Kaz so stressed all the time.

Polyphony's mistakes in GT5 after making four very polished and very complete games don't warrant a future 'failure.' The issues you noted are isolated to GT5 and not a common theme with the franchise in general.

GT5 also introduced a lot of new features to the franchise, things they've never done. They aren't simply adapting, they're already pushing forward. Weather, cockpits, damage modeling, day/night cycles, course editor, and online. This was their first step into all of that and it was shaky, but they shouldn't be thrown off a cliff for lacking perfection out of the gate.

The lacking DLC I can agree with, mostly because it lacked new tracks. I feel we got plenty of cars.

No, they don't need to be thrown off the cliff, but they need to see they're nearing the edge.

All of these things you listed have been done before and while impressive in their inclusion, it shouldn't be an excuse for the faults in their follow up. As I said, this is a different gaming age than what previous iterations released in, and PD was well aware of the possibilities of the technology at their disposal yet they have not taken full advantage of it.

You really have to take into account all the issues that they ran into with the PS3 when talking about how GT5 turned out. The announced Youtube and headtracking support, only to realize that the PS3's ram wouldn't allow it. So the Youtube support was removed and headtracking was limited to certain modes. Then you have the issue with the PS3 handling alpha effects poorly, which of course lead to heavy pixelation when rain kicked up or when cars interacted with smokes. There's no telling how long they had to spend just trying to get the game running at an acceptable level instead of moving smoothly from one game element to the next.

wat?

You are only listing the bad things.
Its been said before, GT5 is a game of highs and lows, but IMO the highs outweigh the lows, no question about it. Kaz and PD started GT5 almost from scratch (new lighting engine, new car models, new physics etc..) and the first 2 are being matched 3 years after release.
Adapt and survive? Please..

I don't agree with that at all. GT6 bombing wouldn't help Polyphony, Kaz, Sony, or Gran Turismo. The only thing they need to realize from this generation is that they can't keep shooting for the moon. It's not exceptable that it took, what, 5 years after the PS3 launch for GT5 to come out? And I love that they're trying to push the genre a bit, with the weather, the day/night, and that good stuff, but the have REALLY got to focus on the racing next game. The AI is still shit, the career was a joke, and the bumper car physics feel wat out of place. I'm very optimistic that the new hardware will help fix all the graphical issues and that was more a problem with the PS3 itself.

I finally bought a Formula Gran Turismo. Dear god this car is hard to control on anything that isn't an Indy track. It's the first I feel like I've actually had to use skill to control the car. Plus I'm sure using a controller doesn't help matter.

Weather and time transitions are not really pushing the genre though. To me they brought nothing to the genre except graphics. AI has been busted for 5 games, it will not be better next time. The sense of race progression and advancement has gotten worse over the series. B Spec was kind of cool when you could drive with your B Spec driver to do endurance races properly, but now with the forced seperation it is a joke.

Bah. I want to be blown away again like I was when I first played GT1.

Yep.

There's certainly some room for improvement with regards to race day atmosphere and immersion. I understand that GT isn't a racing simulator, but I believe it's high time they incorporate that type of thinking into GT6.

I would love to see a mix of TOCA and NFS SHIFT. In that I mean those games really made me feel like I was in a real race. The atmosphere, the racing, the AI...etc felt 'authentic'.

I believe both GT and FM deliver on the car porn front among many other fronts, but surely it's time to move on from the eye candy and a lazy sunday driving, to an all out balls to the wall racing experience!
