Gran Turismo 7…. Does it remotely compare to 1-4?

I really wish a remaster of GT3 would come. It never will.

So anyhow. GT7 is on sale for like $24

Does it have everything like the older GT games had? Like licenses. Career mode. The tuning and upgrading. Is it similar to those games?

Download and try out "My First Gran Turismo". You have access to three races, time trials, and license tests. It gives a decent quick look at the new game.

The only thing I'm not big on is the whole cafe checklist stuff that replaces the career mode. It leans too hard towards the collector of certain segments I could give a rat's ass about. New the small European cars have their fans, but they are small, slow boxes that handle like crap. Give me a low end of sports cars up into GT3s.

But overall I think it's the best GT ever.

So no career mode you say?

It's my first GT but I like the cafe menu and they keep adding to it. Plus I can play it in vr with my wheel. It does a good job for newcomers. I just feel bad for any OCD people that might be trying to own every car in the game. They keep adding more there too.

But is there a career mode? Ya know the good old Sunday Cup with Class C requirements and car restrictions and progression?

Not in the same form as the earlier GTs. There is a ton of content you can engage in as a single player though.

And if you are into online racing, it could become the only game you play. It's not as good a the PC simracing games. But it's the best that's ever existing on consoles.

Yes, that's there in a very basic form. It's much more open and free form that previous games.

GT1-2 were more arcade-like compared to GT3-4. GT7 leans towards GT4 and the game is very big and complex, but driving assist makes driving much easier. I personally prefer Gran Turismo 7 to Gran Turismo 4. The driving is much more forgiving and therefore enjoyable.

I'll try the my first GT

But I'm concerned and frustrated we've not seen a true REAL gran turismo since what? 2004? With the good ole career and such. Nissan Skyline barebones and turn it into a legendary car and advance through career cups and such

There's licenses and you can upgrade and tweak the heck out of the cars. You're very likely to be happy.

To me 1-3 were basically the same games. 1-2 especially and 3 just a PS2 upgrade. FANTASTIC soundtrack on GT3.

GT4 to me was good. But not as good as those others.

To me it's a trilogy and kinda ends at that.

Works for me lol 😂 I'll def take that. GT1 is the OG, but no need to play it when GT2 is basically just the game on steroids.
On the subject of GT7, it's one of the best in the franchise in terms of features and while you have to process through races in your career, it's more like a collectathon.

You get powerful cars early as rewards so it's not exactly rags to riches.

Gonna give it a go. But I miss The rags to riches style. Obviously they ain't going back

GT7 is the best in the series. It's loaded and rich and is clearly made for the love of the car industry. It oozes class. Sounds like some prepared PR but that's how I see it after trying it for hours with the kids.

Single Player offerings are a significant downgrade compared to GT1 through 4 and even GT5 and GT6. Unless you want to grind the same 2-4 races in order to get money to buy the more expensive cars slightly quicker, you aren't going to have a good time with the single player.

It's shocking how Polypheny can't replicate the single player campaigns of the past, but at this point they don't seem interested in trying.

They could

They just don't have a need to do it. Why? This game makes em plenty of cash. More than any they've made. It's their cash cow.

I just crave the GT1-3 style

GT 1 and 2 are easily the best in the series. Probably my favorite racing games of all time.

The last GT on the PS5 will probably be the last GT I will play.

I recommend checking out Priaiano's Tunes on Patreon for $5/mo to complement GT7. The tuning seriously gets into the weeds and really expands the game. Also the community designs are fun.

It's good but not great imo but much better than Sport.

Great visuals, great handling, good sounds and a fantastic experience in PSVR2. The downside is the chase cam is horrendous I don't know why they changed it after the PS2 generation and I dislike the flow of the campaign because it's constantly telling you that your current car isn't correct for the event without it at times being clear why it isn't.

I think it is just as good as the first few GTs, but i don't think it improves on the formula. To me the career mode should be seasons, with full race weekends. You over all season total should be how you advance, not based upon getting top 3 in a few laps for two or three race. It's one of things I loved about Project Cars. It let me race without having to forcefully over take someone because the race was too short. Maybe that is not what GT is about, but the current career setup doesn't keep me engaged like it used to.

The Cafe mode is the single-player campaign. Basically you have to race to get cars and increase your collection. There are also challenges, like prior games. Even though it's not the same progression as old games, the single-player mode is still quite enjoyable. Just buy it, it's worth it.

In GT1, the tyres weren't losing grip nearly as easily, and I could take corners at much higher speeds. The steering was also perfectly responsive. To me GT1-2 felt like a perfect mix between arcade and sim.

In GT3 and especially GT4, tyres lose grip easily, so I need to drive slowly. The steering is also different, so I have the impression that I'm driving a boat :P! Driving in the GT3/GT4 was clearly made with a racing wheel in mind unlike GT1/GT2. Although it was still possible to play GT3/GT4 without a racing wheel, the experience wasn't nearly as good.

I liked GT7, though. This game has photorealistic graphics, fun missions, and an insane number of races. Most importantly, the cars were much easier and more fun to drive than in GT3/GT4, even on a gamepad.

GT7 is the first GT campaign I actually completed. Meaning, once you do all the cafe menu missions, the credits will roll.

On every other GT before there was a road block of some sort in the campaign I couldn't be arse ld to grind through.

For $24 it's a steal, very fun game. Though the career mode isn't quite as good as the older ones. You can tell a lot of love was poured into the game and the presentation is fantastic. It also feels great to play on just a regular controller.

GT7 is great, I have over 170 hours in it and platinumed the game. GT4 is still my favorite but lets be real, that is nostalgia talking. GTS was something different, GT7 has a ton of content and more importantly it extends your experience in multiplayer and that is way more fun to play and compete in than driving some 12 hours endurance races with AI. Also it looks gorgeous, here is one vid I made showcasing the Nurburgring track night to day cycle replay. Anyone that says how games from the 2000s are better...better in which category? Thats nostalgia goggles for you because you had fond memories playing as a kid. You weren't a sim racer nut nor did you have any sim racing rig at home in 2001 to say how handling is not good in GT7. And yes, I played every single GT to date. For $24...pff what a steal.

It is not really worth for players who put alot of time into GT Sport because a huge % of the content is shared, especially tracks. Hoping for the next game there is more new tracks and compelling single player content. They should bring back the system they were building for players to generate their own tracks in GT6 and expland it.

My memory of the earlier games is a little hazy so I can't really compare them. I found 7 to be a lot of fun and although the cafe is a departure it's still worthwhile progressing through it. I never had an issue with progression as every cafe menu and challenge rewards you with a vehicle that comes in handy later in the campaign. With that being said I get much more pleasure when the victory feels earned rather than the fact I bought a vastly overpowered car in relation the competition. You might prefer to smoke the rest of the pack and therefore you'll probably spend more credits on upgrades or vehicles but I never felt I was pushed to do it.

The dualsense implementation is fab as the triggers give great feedback that I found really useful. I have to admit that I bought it as soon as I knew it was coming to PSVR2 so I was late to the game and played in cockpit view in anticipation of playing in VR so can't comment on the chase cam, although I believe it's customisable. If you ever get a headset and wheel it's an amazing experience in VR and completely changes your relationship to the car and its interaction with the track and other vehicles. I did put in a lot of hours before the headset arrived though and found it difficult to put down once I started playing. At that price too I think it's a steal.

Better in terms of progression, no instant gratification for the tik tokkers. You had to work from the bottom and earn your way up the ladder, starting from eco boxes and ending up with fully fledged race cars. The sense of achievement when you got there was brilliant but even better was the journey. In GT7 you're in supercars in no time at all. It's not just nostalgia, the older GT games had much better single player modes.

There has been severe backlash on the cafe system on GTplanet and other fa sites so hopefully PD listens and returns to the classic GT mode for GT8 but I doubt it.

GT7 is pretty much a GT Sport 2.0. But I think its really good.

The cafe sucks, I hated it. I've always liked how you would start with a basic used car, and tune that up to win a few cups until it becomes moot. Then you had the cash to buy something more powerful, and ultimately the top end cars. I think GT1 and 2 did this right.

I feel todays GT puts you into supercars way too fast. They are handed out left and right.

Its the best GT ever made, its a rare occurrence in this day and age for a racing game to be all encompassing, the cafe mode (offline singleplayer portion) is so so good, it classy and made by people who live and breathe automotive culture. I played it through all of 2022 when it came out, still comeback to it occasionally to play in VR. The online mode is a blast too.
I get the nostalgia factor for old GT titles, i still play GT3 A-Spec from time to time, but GT7 is seriously the best one in the series.

GT 1-3 was a GRIND for sure with races and those endurance races, holy HELL. LOL

Option. If the default controller settings are the way they are on PC, you'll have to make some adjustments. But when adjusted? Has the highest highs in controller simcade racing.
