Gran Turismo 7 has been largely unplayable for half a day due to extended server maintenance (VCG)

Gross, and they are doing nothing but a disservice to a game that has a solid foundation. Much like cyberpunks disasterous launch forever marked that game, this will be remembered the same way. Its like self sabotage at this point

Okay...let's not get ahead of ourselves. Cyberpunk is a broken game by nature. No amount of patches can change that.

Gran Turismo 7 will probably be the only GT game this gen and will keep evolving and giving us a lot of stuff that's not included by now. Polyphony will keep feeding this game for YEARS with new cars, events, tracks, etc...they were always good with this since GT5. No one will be talking about the past 24 hours in 3 years...

GT7 deserves to have maintenance, long enough and fans will call you out on it and rightfully so. The game has a reputation and are jerking their players around, always online feature is apart of the problem.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Most people won't care like one hour after.

The problem with an online only model, even for single player content, is that it can break again with the next patch and people won't be able to play single player again for some amount of times.

It shouldn't be locked behind an online wall for single player stuff in the first place.

The online only model is a good way to gather information in real time, for technical or marketing purposes.
But i know it can be a shitty experience for gamers, especially during situations like today. However, people get used to shit and learn to live with it, publishers know that.
The more that this is one of the major disadvantages of the new GT, and the series has got us used to more serious ones.

These kind of things would have to be repeated regularly for the backlash to be clearly audible and effective, from a practical point of view.
Although i don't like it at all, the current situation is not crap enough for them to change their minds yet.

They are merciless. Geez, these guys aren't playing around.
That's the modern era of MC. Review bomb. On the plus side, at least it's not 1.0 or less, which some games even get.

Skimming the bad user reviews, almost all seem hinged on the mandatory online.

The online part is the one that triggers most people. Mtx is fine, if you can earn the tokens. But the moment you make a single player game, and online mode, most gamers will be pissed at you.

Even the hardcore fans here are angry about the online part.

As for the other reviews, I suspect some bad actors to join the frey, and just leave negative reviews.

I don't mind the only part if it were to work like Elden Ring that allows you to play offline. This just locks you out.

How spoiled we have become. Go outside, call a friend, do something!
My problem isn't maintenance, my issue is do I want to invest in a game which will turn off the servers in 3 years? You can't play gt5 online but you can still play single player. Hell I can pop in gt4 a game almost 20 years old and play on my ps2.

Online only sucks and I don't buy the reason. I just got a ps5 from Sony direct, was looking forward to this, now not so much.

No it won't.

Some people won't buy it because of online-only/mtx, but they'll be few and far between. The game will be supported for years. This is a huge franchise regardless of your feelings.
Just like drive club? I can't play that. These servers get shut down fast. It sucks I don't have enough time to enjoy all my games in a generation. I'm still playing old games. When they lock behind a server it makes the game pointless. I can still play gt5 e e though no more server. I can still play gt4 and earlier. Gt7 no dice.

Unless they shut it down lately, if you google it there's still an active COD 2 server on Xbox 360. Activision might get shit on, but if there's one thing they seem to do well is keep servers active. Even if that means one shitty COD 2 server in a dusty warehouse still going, it'll keep going.

Almost as crazy, World at War servers are still active last time I checked. I dabbled with it last year with it's 500 loyal gamers still left. I guess I'm one of them.

Cod2, and waw, wow. You got the nostalgia muscle going. Two of the best cod games, imo. Wonder if it's like that on pc? I know I tried playing unreal tournament 2004 a few years back and it was a ghost town.

Some companies pull servers way to soon. I don't understand it. If it has limited players it shouldn't cost much to run, just leave it up.

Not sure if accurate. Some people in the thread are debunking it.

Even if it was one tenth of that it would be a lot though.

EDIT: it is basically one tenth if you know what you're doing:

15.24 hours.

It's still a lot and considering all the gt fans I know complained about how GT Sports was set up as a grind fest the whole direction this game took doesn't look good.

It's good if stuff like this bring people with pitchforks on PD's gate and all if it makes them rethink their strategy, but yeah, it's actually ~20 hours to grind enough money to buy just one of the most expensive cars in the game. (I'm counting pause, retry, a bit less skill, loadings on ps4, etc)

If they want to "simulate reality" they should allow players to sell their cars to the system as they did with GT Sports at least.

A game that can't hit a fixed frame rate in 2022 is a little broken for me
And amazingly, aside from some games with a 120 fps mode, the goal of console games is typically just 60 fps. It's not like PC rigs that can run games at unlocked 100+ fps.

It's aimed at just locked 60 fps. Something console devs have been striving as a standard for 20 years. And still cant do.

Even for "frame rate mode", many games still cant fixate a frame rate.

I hope MS is reading this shit. Never, ever, ever do this to Forza. I play on Xbox, and I love Forza, but if you do this to Forza as well I hope you have the same issues.

It's been amazing watching the shills defend Sony for this. You have made my day and I thank.you.

I mean, didn‘t they do similar shit with Forza 5, 6, and 7? Filled them with MTX, piss poor progression, RNG, etc? Honestly at this point I trust neither Sony or Micorosft for releasing a proper game that isn‘t in some way fucked over by their greed. Its only a matter of time until Nintendo follows suit as well.

Problem is you could only buy it with in game credits, unlike GT7 where you buy it with real money. And in FM games you can play any car on any track without buying them so its far from similar. If you don't have the money in GT7 you will never ever experience any of the expensive cars. And things like painting are all free in FM while costing around 4K per paint chip in GT7. And even for that Turn 10 got shit on (which is good since that was probably the beginning of there MTX plans) so its far from similar.

Absolutely nothing on the level of what Sony has done with GT7. There will always ben MXT on every game, but when the game is deliberately made difficult so you have to buy cars then that is really bad.

In Sydney they built a new private expressway, and the Gov guaranteed a certain amount of traffic for the private company to build it. When it was completed the public didn't want to pay the ridiculous tolls and so continued to drive on the free public roads to the same destination. In response the government closed some of those roads so that people would have to take the new expressway. This is what Sony has done with GT7, regardless of what the defence force says.

Thanks! I am clearly misremembering with Forza 5/6/7. Either way, Sony needs to get their head out of their ass with MTX and Microsoft better not try to copy what Sony has done here, or implement some Halo Infinite style BS into Forza 8.

Forza 7 didn't have the option to buy cars for money. They had loot boxes, which everyone was doing at that stage. The media and forums smashed them for it and they pulled them. GT7 however has had no real push back by the gaming media, it's just on forums like GAF where the average gamer is pissed off about it.
The way Forza is ran is pretty good now. You have car packs you can buy with maybe 5 or so cards, and might cost $7 or $8 bucks.
You can also get bargains at the auctions, where you might get a car worth 2 million points for half that.

Overall I can‘t really agree with you. I have plenty of problems with Forza 5,6,7 albeit clearly my memory isn‘t the best. However I do remember greatly disliking them compared to the Xbox 360 titles. I hope that they have the same level of care, design, and content as Forza 3 or 4 with 8. I had the same problem with Gran Turismo during its PS3 years. I *really* didn‘t care for 5 or 6 and felt they were massive downgrades to 3 and 4 on PS2.

Horizon is really the series that „saved“ the franchise for me, at least until this most recent release. Not a fan of Horizon 5 at all, and I was already getting tired with 4.

But given how Turn10 is taking its time with Motorsport 8, I am very hopeful. Anyways, this is a bit offtopic.

Both Forza and GT suffer from the same issue. The reality is that all they can offer from one release to the next is slightly better graphics, slightly more responsive handling and some more cars. They might change a track or two as well. It's a track game, so it's stuck in that realm.
Forza Horizon however can go all over the world, have crazy stunts and have way more fun factor.
That's why if you have a PS 5 your car sim needs are serviced with GT and if you have a XSX then your car sim needs are serviced with Forza. There is very little need or interest in those games being multiplatform.

I bought and downloaded this, but got caught up in Elden Ring fever and haven't even fired it up yet. I wonder if it's too late to get a refund? I am just catching up on this and the advancement situation sounds terrible. The last time I played a GT game was on the PS3 and I found it too time consuming to earn a decent car. Now it sounds like a player like me would never advance past the starter Honda Civic or whatever.

This just shows that there are people on positions that pay way too fucking much for them being way too fucking stupid!
I mean you have a game for 80eur that you could make consumer friendly, and sell in the millions, but you rather make it always online, screw up so that people review bomb, and hate you, AND still expect anyone to pay for your stupid credits with real money.
It don't care that it's always online, I don't care for credits, but I really hate that people have so much goddamn money for being so incompetent...

That's probably just trying to be nice, most people would still think "you really can't think of something else to do for just one day?".
