I'm not expecting great difference here. 2 fps in some situation on 360, but if for you is that important, well...
Chalk me up to another person who is waiting to see which version is the definitive version.
Cause I'm an informed buyer with both consoles, and make informed multi-platform game purchases, etc., etc. (*wank, wank*)
I'm kind of hoping 360... only because, I originally had PS3 preordered - remembered GTA IV/RDR fiasco, then cancelled and have 360 version arriving tomorrow from Amazon.

Gears of War is a quality franchise. It's just much more limited in scope and therefore can only stay fresh for so long.
I was lucky enough to play GTA V. This is a amateur review from a guy who has a hobby in video games (and is unemployed at the moment, haha.)

In other words, it's what The Elder's Scroll should ultimately become. A huge sandbox game where the numerous system and mechanics are very solid or well executed instead of having it's one saving grace being that it's the sum of all it's parts.

Destructoid has best review I've seen by far. Gave it 9/10 and listed lots of pros and cons and actually talked about gameplay. Said gun gameplay is still disappointing. Was hoping for a max payne 3 clone when it came to shooting mechanics because I loved everything about MP3's gunplay... But oh well, can't have everything...

As much as many of us always call for the full scale to be used. The 9/10s are way more appealing to me as a reader. Eurogamer and Sterling in particular. In the grand scheme of things I think people will still say Vice City is their favourite for idealistic nostalgia or whatever. That was probably the most rockstar game R* ever made.
Pity the thread had to turn to personal attacks, but that's expected. Hard to take Edge seriously after they allegedly upped the original score of IV from 9 to 10. I won't trust them on any of their Rockstar reviews again.

yeah not for me, unless i stopped playing before it got fun...but 20+ hours i think was enough. there literally wasn't any reason to explore the city.

red dead and gta 4? fiasco? I guess I must have had the definitive version...since I had no problem with either game. red dead looked and played great.

what made GTA 4 so special to you? The only reason I never went back to it, is because i had to get a ps3 slim and didnt want to start the game over. if I remember correctly I stopped playing gta 4 after a robbery/car chase in a armored truck..or something like that.

Thanks! I'll probably play half way through the game then. Are there collectibles? I love finding them although it's probably going to be a daunting task looking at the size of that map.

Driving around the city and interacting with the world was and still is just in a league of its own compared to other games. Euphoria and their other physics systems gave a real weight to everything in the world and made just driving around or starting fights a blast. Other open world games feel flimsy and almost boring in comparison to me. And the online modes really were a revelation, having 16 people able to just fly around the city and create our own little mini-games was incredibly fun. Spent dozens of hours there, and that's not even including the actual structured multiplayer modes like Cops and Robbers.
It certainly took out some elements from San Andreas and was a bit more limited in terms of actual activities in comparison, but the actual minute to minute interaction was improved tenfold. It very much seems to stand as an excellent base for V to stand on.

It's getting well out of hand. I could understand it if it was 7/10 but it's 9/10 which is still a 'must buy' in anyone's book.
The comments on Gamespot and their review on youtube are all kinds of fucked up.
Marketing certainly helps, but that isn't why. GTA games are simply the epitome of escapism and sandbox gameplay. It's not sandbox like Skyrim where you can run around vast worlds and not have much to do besides look and kill, we're talking sandbox on a whole new level. A living, breathing, thriving city full inhabitants and real life as we know it, only with vast amounts of creative freedom and interactivity thrown in, as well as random mini games et all.
GTA is a franchise that exemplifies a go any where do anything ethos that is rare in gaming.

I don't see that comparison. The reviewer thinks it's not enjoyable to play as guys who are horrible people. He's not arguing that it will cause kids to start shooting up schools or other media alarmist crap like that.
While the Gamespot reviewer is more than welcome to comment on the portrayal of women in the game, I also have to ask, does every game have to be held to some pinnacle of political correctness/equality? I can't even imagine what would've happened if she'd actually knocked the game down below a 7 because of it.
If she didn't, people would be complaining about the bias against Japanese games in sexism criticism.

It's been decades that the community and journalists were united to successfully swat off any accusations from politicians, news organizations, or lawyers who've said that violent videogames have negative repercussions or that a gratuitous depiction of women may corrupt our kids. As a gamer, to suggest these things could be remotely true was complete and utter blasphemy.
But now, as videogames as they are now are protected by the government and become normal to the mainstream. We are left to ourselves to look inwards and ponder that "Hey, maybe violent videogames do contribute to a negative violent culture. Maybe certain depictions of women may contribute to the misogyny in our society."
Could our peers be right all along?

Well she didn't.. Just made mention of it. And it seems to be a pretty accurate view on the portrayal of women in the game. It didn't seem to impact the score in any unfair way. Ultimately a game review is based on the persons opinion of the game, some people just can't accept that it might not be perfect in every way to someone.

It is, but it wasn't able to attain its relevance the way GTA has, it's the first thing that came to mind, but I'm not trying to knock GeOW or anything like that.

Seriously though, by all accounts this game is San Andreas II and then some - GTA IV clearly wasn't.
You should watch some free roam footage. If that doesn't get you interested, I don't know what will.
This is the true sequel to San Andreas.

I remember even shorter than that. I think the IV OT creator here on gaf made a separate thread maybe a week or two after release discussing how disappointed he was. He gave it a 7/10 or something.

This was a good review I don't think it sounded mainstream at all. He made a valid point and didn't jump on the GTA hype bandwagon.

The problem with that review is he went in expecting some kind of silly violence like Saint's Row, or being forced into Violence like Niko, rather than just doing bad things just because the characters are bad people. Honestly, that's like writing a bad review about LEGO CITY because it's too childish. It's just not good journalism, and it hurts their credibility since it makes them seem like attention seekers rather than trying to write an objective journalistic review

Do we know if GTA Online will be reviewed as a separate product? It makes sense given that any amended scores up or down won't be reflected on metacritic. Will be interesting to see what happens there.

This game gives off such heavy San Andreas vibes it's crazy, from being in the barber shop to customizing cars to seeing your stat bar go up as you mess around. Oh yeah, and it has GROVE ST, busta!

See, I thought the gunplay was much better this time around, especially when you remove the "GTA" aiming from the options menu and leave it with the tamer auto assist or no assist.
